The Headcase pico Lovefest: Post your impressions here
slwiser replied to thrice's topic in Headphone Amplification
The trouble is people don't look except for skin deep or listen for 15 seconds before coming to a firm life decision on these things before calling it they way "they" know it is. -
This is my modified HFI-780 with Jenna 18g cable. I know you guys don't like it but I do.
-
This show is intense...to intense for me to continue watching it if they don't come to closure this season. I hope they do come to closure with this subject of corporate terrorism.
-
This is always a possibility.
-
Yes the complete package.

Thanks nate, I have an paper that suggests the optimum gauge for analog connector is .8mm diameter solid core. This is much closer to what you say is standard.
-
You are more familiar with the gauges than I am. Isn't the standard house electric cable to an light normally 18 gauge? That is fairly big. The Jenna cable is very flexible from what I have seen though.

I do like the Ultrasone sound especially the UE9 and the HFI-780 was a shock to me. As I have noted else-where I had a second UE9 on order and ordered the 780 on a whim..Once I got the HFI-780 I canceled my second UE9 order on the same day. For one-sixth the price why bother with the UE9 for a phone to carry to work and back as a transportable. The differences between the HFI-700 and the HFI-780 are the headphone pads are now very much like the UE9 and a couple of other minor details were changed to reflect lessons learned with the UE9. I you are one that does not appreciate the Ultrasone sound then this headphone is not for you. I am having Ken of ALO do the Jenna cable thing to enhance it even more. I did not like the stock cable at all. It has the eight-inch plug and the wire is stiff and unhandy for me. I checked out the Jenna cable on the Jenna web site and they do seem to have something special from what I found. Otherwise I would have just gotten the Viper cable for a bit less in cost. I should have my unit back from Ken by Monday. It went into shipping this morning and it takes about three days to cross the USA from Oregon to Virginia using USPS Priority Mail.

boomana You just articulated the essence of the issue. There are no simple solutions. Idealism suggests the simple. Pragmatism suggests a different solution with some going without or at least paying for more of the solution. This is the quandary and ideologies work on the edges to move people to their sides and they just confuse things since the only answer seems to be an extreme. What I see happening is that whenever government steps in to a certain level, private insurance steps back and lets the government coverage move to that level and then they start picking it back up. Private insurance is moving their bar up all the time as government Medicare coverage grows. If you make to much then the government coverage will not be there because it falls off with raising income but the gape between what you need and have will with the private insurance will remain the same and the results for you will be very expensive. This is a real issue that I see today for the middle income more than anyone else.

I was not talking about the one she is alledged to support today but the one she presented back in the 90s. Do your homework as well. I remember a quote from her back then when asked if forcing small business to pay for the insurance premiums that the government was going to mandate. She said "I can't help if those bussiness' are undercapitalized." As if they all went under it would be better than those working went on government support. That was a scary thought to me at the time. I recently heard her say something akind to the fact that the baby boomers have some wealth that can be tapped to support her programs. Turning this around I can her heard say "I can't help if some people are overcapitalized and have to pay more than those that can't." Who said "from those that have to those in need" (paraphrased)? Marx. Now how do we defined who is in need? Those that don't want to work and just want to take? When government steps in, people step back. This has been proven time and time again.

Socialize medicine was attempted in Tennessee in the 90s. I has failed badly and almost bankrupted the state. Check it out. They still have it but cover almost nothing today. At least people can still have private insurance to cover themselves under HILLARY THIS WOULD NOT BE AN OPTION.

I really enjoy sci-fi but this show is not one of those that I watch. I tried watching a couple but I stopped. I am very disappointed in what the Sci-Fi channel is pushing lately. Flash Gordon appears to be done by the same group that does their Saturday night movies which I have attempted to watch as well but have learned to avoid.

There is not enough money that could provide what would be needed. People look toward socialize government health care have a ideal of man that is not founded in reality and experience. It is an ideal of man that he inherently has a higher standard of personal behavior that is not represented by reality. Back when I grew up (50s and 60s) people did not go without. Doctors provided services and those that could paid. That was the way it was. The ideal that government can come in and essentially enhanced this is false. But is does sound good and is what is hoped for but never experienced. When government steps in people step back. That is just the way it is. But when government has programs many people figure out how to use those programs to line their own pockets. More programs get developed to police those programs. While hoping for the "ideal man" to reveal himself with socialize government programs hoping to police and provide for what used to be done under what was called morality and charity now more and more of those that are not "ideal men" take more money to themselves. Then government needs more money to feed programs while having to lower standards of care for what does finally get down to the people. I have just describe our present system in some manner that is semi-socialize. A pure socialize system can only be worst. At least today we have competing interest (doctors and patiences vs. insurance and government and lawyers having interest in both sides) that work toward providing some level of civilized care. If government came in and established one system we would have one level of care and it would be ugly. If I remember correctly under Hillary's 90s plan I could not even move across the country if the place I have a job offer could not fit me into the local health care system. It would become illegal for doctors to provide off the books care. The doctor and patience with money would become criminals if care was given. There is a great new book on the New York best seller list called Liberal Fascism. This would provide some insight into the forces behind the move to socialize national health care.

If you had to downgrade your entire rig to $500 ...

I think that this one of the best threads concerning our hobby on the web. Thanks for all your insights. -
So who's heard Orthodynamics, and what was your reaction to them?

Can a Yamamoto HA-02 power these? I may be interested to see how the other world lives. -
Yep. I sure have been enjoying it.

Here is a device that people talk about using that gets rid of this problem in this thread: http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/index.php?topic=45312.0 Device home: http://alanmaherdesigns.com/default.aspx Later in the thread they talk about putting choke into the line in some way to kill hum and lower the floor level of the background. Just a thought.

I have to say that I hear the ESW9 pretty much like boomana. A bit on the warm side with no brightness anywhere. On my larger head there was some clamping at first but this was gone away. I agree that it can sound congested with the right music.

Here is my comparison of the ATH-W5000 with the Ultrasone Edition 9. Note that I had the W5000 matching HA5000 for this comparison and still came to the conclusion that I preferred the Edition 9s. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/2990507-post3521.html If you want a taste of the Ultrasone Edition 9 for a lot less money try out the new HFI-780 which is very close to the UE9 in sound profile.
-
I seriously encourage anyone of you to check out the new Ultrasone HFI-780. I am really enjoying this one. This is what I took to work yesterday. ALO Auricap Doc + iMod 5.5g + Xin Reference + Ultrasone HFI-780.
-
The iMod 5.5g is shown in the ALO Auricap dock using RCA connector into the quarter input on the Xin Reference feeding either the ATH-ESW9 on the left and my new Ultrasone HFI-780 on the right. The rig I had at work today was what you see here except for the 780.

You did what I didn't do which is to introduce yourself. Introducing yourself is a good ideal around here.
