  1. Could it be this?
  2. I really like my D2000 with my M
  3. Ahhhh,.... thanks, I hadn't noticed that before. What brand are they, and any idea where can I get some?
  4. Where do you get those capacitor covers?
  5. I had never thought of it in these terms; that the listener is increasing their ability to discerene the higher quality by listening to better gear. Given that the most significant improvements would probably be realised as you come up from the lowest end of the fidelity range, do you think that there is a point where the improvements cease and expectations take over?
  6. I can't speak to the CKIII, but I would not recommend an M3 as a first build. As boomana suggested, start with some cmoy to learn how to solder, and work your way up. The M3 is often about the 3rd progression. Stuffing the board is quite easy, but you must know how t solder. The real challenge comes when you first power it on and it doesn't work. Trouble shooting these builds can be tricky if you have no experience.
  7. The stand is beautiful. And, a well deserved award.
  8. smeggy stuffing a board is pretty straightforward if you pay attention to a few things. Trouble shooting requires a bit of practice. In fact, that's probably the real benefit of working your way up. The case work is one of the most challenging parts of the build. Woodworking skills would be a real benefit in casing.
  9. smeggy Your ECR-500 write up is great. It looks like you've got some great wood working skills. I'm assuming that you turned those timber pieces? I've been very fortunate that there are a lot of great DIY amp projects and plenty of community support. I'm just a gumby who is learning to weild a soldering iron. I started small with CMOYs and such and have not worked my way up to the higher voltage stuff. It's a bit intimidating, but with a bit of patience and a lot of care, it's working out. It's a great cost effective way to have some pretty good amps at a decent price. The Bijou will end up costing me about $400 all up. Now just got to get a case to make it look less ghettoriffic.
  10. From the Bijou Site http://www.cavalliaudio.com/bijou/bijou.php The Bijou is equipped with a variable NFB circuit. This helps the amplifier handle the range of headphone impedance from 32R to 300R. However, very little feedback is needed for high Z headphones. Some listeners may prefer no feedback at all.
  11. I'm not really sure how to adjust the negative feedback yet. I played with it for about a microsecond. I'd rather just listen to this beasty.
  12. Here it is: Dodgy photos, but you get the idea. Ignore the dodgy ICs. I had to place it away from my usual gear so I don't come too close to that 300V!!!! Now listening to Iron Maiden - this amp rocks..... hard. K701 rocking?
  13. eeeek... [runs off to grab camera]
  14. The only place I've seen them http://www.lasertagparts.com/order.htm.
  15. Hi guys Just finished my Bijou. It's only got about 20 minutes on it so far, but this thing sounds great. I'm currently listening to Fiday Night in SF with my K701 - very sweet. I'm not so great at describing the sound, but this amp certainly delivers - to me at least. Cheers Oh, I've temporarily mounted it on a piece of board so it looks pretty ghetto, so I won't post pics.
  16. ^ Well you sir, are a festisio!
  17. I'll make sure to poke it with a stick first... just to make sure it's dead.
  18. Hmmm... I see, or Vagina. Let me look into that for you madam....
  19. Is a projector an option? I've got a infocus SP5700 projecting onto a 100 inch home made screen. It's only SD, but I dig it. As with almost all projectors light control during the daylight hours is an issue, but I have mostly managed that without making the room look like a photographic darkroom. So far I haven't made an in-roads into HD at all, but I'll probably go for another projector - eventually. Are you interested in amp and speakers as well?
  20. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll go back and have a look.
  21. Yeah, I can understand mechanical componenets requiring burn-in or a settling period, but this shit about 100 or 700 hours - wow. Yes - when I read the threads on the other forum about 'wait 200 hours and then these cans that you hate will transform' or whatever that crap is. I can't help but wonder whether it's people justtrying to convince themselves or they're too dumb to recognise the stupidity of their own statements. '
  22. In my experience most buyers are still fine to deal with. Occassionally through someone does lke to play games. I can't see that you were in the wrong at all.
  23. Hi boomana I laughed when I read your 'pads on backwards' thread. I like my D2000 - maybe not the be-all, but they suit my cloth ears fine. You did get me thinking about how they would sound with the pads reversed - so I did. Yep, they sound way different. No bass or highs, just mids - oh, and uncomfortable as all shit. I have no idea whether wou will like the D2000 or D5000 next time, but they should sound quite different to the last time you heard them
  24. sure seems to be the case
  25. Hi to all I am a regular over at HF and I recogise many of the posters here. I lurk here a bit, but only once previously had the inclination to post. My question relates to burn-in. As stated in the thread title, why does burn-in only ever improve gear? I have posted this over at the other place a few times, but of course it gets ignored. Now I'm not so sure about the whole burn-in thing personally. I've never really had a 'wow' experience. There is teh real chance that I'm just too deaf to hear any difference. I can understand why drivers might need some time to loosen up, but electronics? Anyway.... back to the real issue at hand here... Given the scenario where you unpack a new set of cans and love them at first listen, but after 20, or 100, or however many hours later you think 'Man, this sounds like shit. Fuck burn-in' Why do we never read about this happening? Any thoughts on this?
