  1. Slightly bit off topic long before I got into Stax but was sort of familiar with Dr.Gilmore's designs from Headwize, I use to think the KGSSHV was short for Kevin Gilmore's Super Sexy High Voltage amplifier.
  2. lol, Brazil does currently have a shit team selection, not to mention their 2 best players off from the fields for the season.
  3. Could be factory rejects. Maybe try giving them a listen and see if you can point out any discernible differences apart with your ears.
  4. I had a few studio/broadcast PA amp's gutted with Tortran 300-500va toroids, re-used them in a few integrated amp repairs. No problems. Average stuff is average. Are Sumr units still humming away?
  5. I've had samples from Ti and Analog Devices where the logo weren't straight. As mentioned resistance measurement and possibly even listening can point out the fake from the real pack.
  6. Wtf, 7-1 Germany's win... Was speculating a tie with penalty shots against Brazil. :/
  7. What chassis you got in mind?
  8. Always take buyer's word like that with a grain of truth, really doubt Stax installed the driver/dust protector reversed, probably a shoddy job done by the previous owner or mishap fuckup possibly by an authorized Stax service distributor. I have encountered situations like this many times and I have used various quality 3M alike double sided tape and most of them don't last long (considering the hot temp's in Melb) the driver and screen protector will sift out of place. I have used small dabs of super glue and other "not-so-messy" adhesive with luck, avoid Loctite though. Yeah that faulty LS went for more then what it's worth, I was the first bidder. Didn't bother after it went after $150, especially when LS's been going for around $280-300 as of late (in working condition too).
  9. @rx Was that LS from a NZ ebayer?
  10. http://www.ebay.de/itm/Stax-Kopfhorer-und-Driver-Unit-mit-Equalizer-/331238299982?pt=DE_Elektronik_Computer_TV_Video_Elektronik_Verstärker&hash=item4d1f57594e Was the SRM-Monitor special in any way or was it just a Stax defuse field eq + SRM1 MK2 in one package?
  11. Coincidence...I was just looking at that yesterday thinking the same thing.
  12. Sometimes one can get good deals on ebay too with tubes, just make sure the tube is tested by the seller.
  13. I liked there other dynamic amps but I'm not so sure about them moving towards a Stax amp, that amp looks like it is from the same clothe the Electra is made from.
  14. Me thinks a diy 4070 I've got a pair of spare 404 drivers. Is it possible to replicate the housing design with a wooden cup?
  15. I think HP has one that fills the task nicely but the model number ain't coming to my head. Have you looked at any used Cisco, Checkpoint or Juniper solutions?
  16. Spritzer or anybody that own/ed a 4070 any internal shots of the driver chamber and port? Really interested in what the inside of the 4070 looks like.
  17. Amazing stuff, surprised at how the measurements turned out. Can a near identical to spec HE90 or Omega1 driver be fabricated?
  18. I think it means the LL's design and circuitry derives from the 323 family with mosfets not applicable for the task.
  19. Have a pair of those in a 13wpc SET amp and they are pretty good tubes, not Mullard XF1 level but close, looks like the listing is for a matched quad set at $299 a lot and the seller has 6 lots of quads available. Feel a bit ripped with mine at $250 for a pair. :/ What's the going prices for XF1/2's these days? Ebay prices are all over place.
  20. Well of course you're going to get a positive response about the wonders of cryo tube improvements when you call a tube/valve supplier otherwise they wouldn't be making money, a profit if they gave you the opposite response. The 717, 727 (both stock and with mods) are the best of the Stax SS line up of amps. The 323S is also fairly decent for what it does and the price it is at. Better then the X Pro, XH, 212, 252/S family.
  21. I'd usually go with the original Japanese made Matsushita tubes for amps such as the T1 family and maybe the 006 as well as they are for me at least better sounding then the cheap RCA's you can buy. That Kimik mod sounds like a scam, 200 quids for that?
  22. What is the Kimik mod? I like my 404's with my 323S. The 006 is not bad and evidently built upon and based off the T1 and for me it matched the 202, LNS and Lambda NB superbly but did not sound so great with the rest of the Lambda family and O2's.

Fanboy's siding with either of the treats mentioned and debating which is better. I wasn't part of it but did come across it back in 06-07.
