Very interesting. Why did you use ceramic insulators under the SICs? Aren't they in an insulated package?
-
very nice and small!! is it your first listen to the kgst?

Output Stage Current Requirements for Electrostatic Headphone Amps

Very interesting for me to read. Thank you! -
Nice experimental looking build. How does it sound?
-
I am interested in a set too. thx
-
Yeah let us know if they are real.

In the schematic the input resistors are 1k instead of 100ohms. Furthermore the 500k tying the inputs to gnd are missing.

http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/405/snos633h-261427.pdf in this datasheet of the lm4040 to92 on page two the pinout is visible. I have another remark. Shouldn't there be a way to disable the servo for initial adjustment of the trimpots?
-
I was also justing looking at the new board and wondered if the lm4040-10 sot package couldn't be replaced by a to92 to make it easier. Furthermore could someone elaborate on the advantages of the new servo? I am really interested in that.

If anyone wants to do a board run of the carbon I would be interested. I don't know who many working carbons are around at the time, but is there anyone who can comment on their strength and weakness compared to our other amps?

Definitely true for gould. I recently attended a concert of maurizio pollini and he was humming or singing all the time too .
-
I also sometimes hear traffic noise in some older recordings. Thats the way they are and maybe the producers did not even hear it with their equipment...

I have a strange problem occuring with my few days old new SR007. One driver makes strange noises that are not very loud, but noticeable, especially when no music is playing. It comes and goes and it can be provoked by pushing head cup towards the ears while wearing the headphones. Its like a high pitched sound that slowly reduces in frequency. I am yet unsure if there is a real channel imbalance that comes and goes, or if I am justing imagining a volume imbalance. I will continue comparing with the SR009 which I have never had problems with. The problem has occured on both the KGST and KGSSHV. With the SR009 I hear dead silence so its neither the amps nor the source. Has anyone ever experience a similar thing with a 007? Furthermore I am really surprised how much more "juice" the 007 needs compared to the 009 to reach the same volume.

This is a 1M Trimpot which needs to be populated. The crossed zero is the screw of the trimpot ;-)

I thought for all the Stax amps the MPSA Series is completely fine. So no need to get MPSWs...
-
Yeah do what spritzer says... safer than my idea.

I guess this would be possible by implementing a voltage splitter von the +350 to get to +230? Should be easy. Maybe some else can chime in.

What would you use it for? Any other input is also appreciated.

Another option for a tube tester would be this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VACUUM-TUBE-TESTER-LCD-DISPLAY-LAMPEMETRE-ULTRA-COMPACT-/251165653561?pt=FR_Image_son_Autres&hash=item3a7aa3ba39 Has less functions, is cheaper, but tests up to 450V.

Very nice work indeed. I like the inside off-board heatsink. Probably total overkill, but very nice! Does this one run at 400V?

I don't really know where to post this, but since I didn't want to open a new thread for it, I thought I'd try here. I have a luxury problem I recently acquired a quad rk50 pot. Now I am asking myself, what I could use it for (very logical I know , buy first, think later). So my question is the following: Would it make sence to build a passive preamp with it to go between my Invicta (which has a very good digital volume control) and my amps (KGST with alpha pot and KGSSHV with an Elma stepper)? This way I could turn both volume controls in the amps to max and just use the rk50 for both, with the capability to fine trim the amps with their integrated volume control. Another option would be to replace the elma stepper in the KGSSHV with the RK50. Furthermore I have a midterm project to build an offboard KGSSHV, which I have only acquired boards for until now. So I could put it in there. I would love to have a BHSE. But I don't want to do the part sourcing... Same for the T2. Any comments? Note to self: The RK50 is so beautiful ;-)

The 6S4a is the Kgst runs at 340V. maybe someone else know about the bhse. But if you get that tube tester which looks really nice, you should probably go for the 3+ version.
-
I agree with Justin. I have not calculated the price, but if you have some diy skills you could get the 009 and a 007tll and do the 6s4a mod. I guess this way it should be similiar to a KGST which I think is a great amp for the 009. Furthermore, if you are comfortable with it, buy a 009 and build a KGST yourself. I think that might just fit the budget.

If want to be sure to get a "new" 007. Do you guys think its fine to order form PJ?
