Hi Yikes. so they deleted your thread about you leaving the forum since they were deleting threads? well, good thing I caught it before that and mentioned it to tkam that we should invite you. welcome to the forum.
-
HeadRoom made the first commercially available balanced headphone amp (or so they say). they for some reason decided to go with dual 3-pin female XLR outputs, which has now become the de facto standard of sorts.
-
Yikes was invited.
-
lol. you're a patient one.
-
what cable is that? some super secret mil-spec wire deal Ray cooked up? it looks mighty expensive.
-
just invited NeilPeart.

I assume one's unwired and one's prewired. meaning... one has wires inside connecting each end of the plug to each other, while the other one the two ends are unconnected and you have to do that yourself. unwired might be useful if you want to swap pin assignments or something and don't want to unsolder wires that are prewired in the wrong place.

part of the reason for the high retermination cost is they have to strip down part of the cable and take the original connector off, then resleeve it to end in two leads, redo the Y-joint, then reterminate the ends. takes time so a fee should be expected, and knowing audio cable companies, they like to charge a high premium for their services for some random reason. they probably don't care about the used market price of their product and if people come to them for the service at their offered price, there's really no reason to worry. like you said, if someone realizes that selling a cable and buying a new one is a lot cheaper, that's their gain. so Zu Mobius in XLR and regular termination costs the same now if bought new from them? when I inquired about this a year or two ago they quoted a price perhaps $30 higher on the XLR version. guess they changed things. as for the price difference between the balanced and unbalanced Equinox, that has nothing to do with my post. I simply stated that I wouldn't bother with Equinox due to thier long leadtime. price issues is a different matter and should also be considered, but it doesn't do away with the long lead times necessary with their products and make discussions about lead time a nonissue. if they offered free retermination to balanced, but still required a 10 week lead, would you think differently?

you just want to show off your handiwork since you worked so hard to make it and want a lot of recognition for your work. hey, here's a cookie for you.

Balancing headphones. Yay or Nay: share your experience-->model/worth it?

yup, he needs my balanced cmoy and audio transformers. -
but given their long leadtime on their standard offerings, would you even want to consider parting with your cable for three months for a retermination? http://stefanaudioart.com/StefanAudioArt.html

inviting HugoFreire.

and a Happy St. Patrick's Day to you too. Green Guinness time.

stock cable on the L3000 is high purity stranded copper (Hi-OFC) with a few strands of silver mixed in. it's a very nice cable. -
ya... I was thinking he could save it and get something more expensive in the future.
-
I say save your money... because money's always good. I seem to be in the minority though.
-
I use the one I made myself. bare cardas sennheiser pins, solid silver wiring, and other stuff. btw blessingx, the links in your signature are not configured properly....

well, what do you notice with and without the P600 inline? let's compare notes. all I remember from testing it with and without power conditioning a while ago (perhaps a half year or more) is that I preferred it without power conditioning. seemed to get more dynamic range and perhaps a more fuller and clearer sound. IMO going from power conditioning to without was similar to the differences obtained from going from VT-231's to Bad Boys, or Bad Boys to 6SN7W's (short bottles) on the output tubes.
-
no, only about 35W IIRC. I didn't say I don't use power conditioning because it overloads the P300, but rather because it sounds best without power conditioning.
-
I wish it were that low... but unfortunately it's more like 2% to 4% depending on the transaction. plus the like to charge a 2.5% fee for currency conversions between accounts using different funds.
-
but now my reply to the post you moved doesn't make sense since it's lost the post it's referring to. this will never end will it?
-
now my post makes no sense since someone moved the thread out of FS. \
