  1. I would love an idler just to try but finding one in great shape, ready to play is difficult and costly. My best turntable experience was at the VSAC show hearing a 401 in a birch ply plinth out of massive gotu horns. Direct drives to me sound better (greater focus, dynamics, soundstage) than do the belt drives I have played with, including the LP12, VPI Superscoutmaster, Scout and even the table of my dreams the Galibier Serac. When you get in the post $5k realm and into the upper Galibiers, modded aries from VPI or Raven tables DD is a cheaper and arguably sonically at least as good as many sub 5k belt drive tables.
  2. PIcked this up Friday, stone mint example of a Denon DP-59L, looks like it just came out of a store in 1983 This one so far is still my favorite but I need to do a better head to head with the Denon
  3. HAppy B-DaY
  4. had a moment to check out the JH13s with the Balancing Act and a Spectral DAC, very nice and zero hiss/noise at listening levels and above, his/noise only at levels that would damage your hearing. Great sound and a good match, not sure that it is that much better than the stacker ll but I'll need to compare them at the next meet.
  5. :pget a job hippie:p

  9. it ain't the HF2s that is creating the high end hash
  10. $350 to $700 and worth every penny
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNQRfBAzSzo Banner week for JH13 converts
  12. great all the way around if and only if you find one that has been recently gone over and repaired. Any 40 year old tube amp should need some sort of repair/refresh
  13. I doubt the Dual is as good as the sony ps-x45
  14. Jay, Have a Fucking Great B-Day
  15. 3 bottles of Staggs bourbon and a bottle of Highland Park 18
  16. Jeff Have you done any recording with the MH yet? I'll take that outcome for $1695 since I think both the AR and PS AUdio are 2-3x the ULN2 price
  17. I'd love to do a two song vinyl transfer comparing the two as well to see how the ADC compares as well. Let's see if I sell the Sonic 302, one bicycle, a guitar, my HF2s and went on ramen for a few weeks I think I could swing it.
  18. at some point Al and I need to compare the sonic studio 302 (ULN-2) to the Amarra 4 (ULN-. While I think the 8 will best the 2 in all areas I think it might be shades or grey as opposed to black and white. I am looking for a reason thought to go ULN-8 at some point. I get the apprehension for those that will use it just as a dac but for those with vinyl these make really nice phono pre amps and can also serve as a system pre amp.
  19. Hank Mobley Roll Call ND from the Music Matters series
  20. Matt has a magic box that debuted unspectacularly at CanJam, it was still in beta and was hit and miss in LA. It takes the digital stream from the LOD and feeds it to a dac in the same box then feeds it to a 1/8 out. Same form factor as the ALO Rx that he designed as well. I took a bunch of time with it at RMAF and really liked it, it was dicey with my iphone 3G but worked well with all ipods. He is working on the iphone 3g issue. I walked away from portable a year or two ago but after the JH13s with the pico and then the Rx got the bug again.
  21. Happy Birthday Mark!
  22. Tyler try the ALO Rx amp it is just about a perfect match for the 13s, so much so that I am selling off the pico and netbook and going iphone/Rx. I'll probably get the dac/ipod(iphone) digital device when Matt comes out with it. I am considering complete madness and going balacing act with these but need to stop by and hear it again. Also the BA makes a killer pre amp.
  23. AudiogoN ForSale: canrong digital stylus gauge also Mehran is a good guy and easy to deal with, just be careful he may try and tempt you with a killer deal on a zyx cart
