  1. Not sure what hotel it is going to be held at yet but the date is firm and it will be held near SFO (between the towns of San MAteo and Burlingame most likely). Hope to see you there, we'll probably do something either after or the night before in San Francisco as well.
  2. I use it as my home entertainment hub, it feeds my mediocre View 42 flat screen. I use it for movies and music as well as web video. Not the best picture quality and will not be as good as a blue ray picture but ok for the easy to please movie watcher. Since my rack is pretty far from the TV I just went to bluejeans cables and had a 25 foot hdmi to DVI cable made for the mac
  3. Got mine last week, thanks Tom! Sent mine yesterday, just got back from three weeks of travel crazies.
  4. somewhat lame in my opinion, great technician but lacks emotion/soul in his playing. I loved the guy ten years ago for his playing with others but he just is not passionate to me.
  5. In Key West they should have dinner at PePe's great food
  6. each time I have heard a well done idler set up I have been stunned at the "you are there" quality of the sound coming off the record. Couple and idler with a well designed horn set up and it is goose bump city
  7. ByBBt far this is the series to subscribe to, extremely well selected, best quality covers and great sonics
  8. Ditch the grado BS1000i if you can as duct taping up issues it has with an amp is absolutely the wrong way to go
  9. David, good to hear Bugsey is ok! Just got into Portland for a training session I am running. B-fast and pints at Horse Brass Pub then a pop over to 32 ohms (Ken Ball's) new retail store.
  10. if you are referring to amarra well it will not run on a windows book so no need and 4 G is just fine btw on the apple mini or macbooks
  11. so far I really like this cart very vivid and lifelike but just slightly crude sounds great on the Denon 59L
  12. Deepak no clear winner yet except to say that the Sony ps-x555es mates well with every cart I have thrown at it while the denon is hit and miss. I am picking up a denon 103 fl this evening so well see.
  13. the asus that I owned now with Nate was great as a music server for windows programs. I had mine set up with foobar and a plug in to bypass the kmixer. Not a machine that I would want to perform cpu intensive tasks but playing music is not a cpu intensive task by a log shot. Matched with the pico map/dac it was a nice transportable set up.
  14. yes Zu is in Odgen Ut but their east coast marketing person in is Atlanta. The guy from Tn was an amp builder that Zu is working with. They sounded really good much better in the dedicated room though. Like other single driver speakers I have heard (IMHO) they excelled at small combo jazz and struggled with denser mixes. YMMV as Mike thought they did well with denser rock stuff in the dedicated room that I did not circle back around to. They have great tone and dynamics and play loud without issue as they were rocking at 98db peaks with averages of 95db for part of the session.
  15. Gotta love it the hotel fire alarm just went off a 830 am just as I was headed out for breakfast. Those still sleeping it off will be pissed.
  16. If you are going to Brother Tuckers and are staying at the Hyatt please be out front a 5pm
  17. depending on when you get in I would expect that we would be well on our way to the Back Room to see the band by 930 ish
  18. dinner is in Pompano Beach a rental might be cheaper than a cab. The show is in Boca Raton and that would for sure be a $$$ cab ride.
  19. Mike, my condolences on your Aunt's passing Jeff, while I think that we'll be ok that option may be needed. I think we have the Zu crew with a car, screaming oj, Gene and Matt, any others with transport? ps I am in the air on the inflight wifi so my responses may infrequent until I land in FLL later tonight
  20. Happy B-day Gene, see ya in a few days
  21. a skipjack as nice as it is wouldn't have elves the software issues unless hitting the mini with it helps
  22. The day started well with an IPA from 21st Amendment brewery but the promise of an easy day soon passed. We set up both the amarra 4 and the sonic 302 and got made sure the drivers and sonic consoles were set up (Mike thanks for emailing the 302 file). Like good audio geeks we then did a run through on our test songs and got the output setting stabilized using a SPL meter. Let the games begin... well not so fast as every time we switched dacs either the sonic console hung up or the amarra software got hung up. We were able to go back and forth between the two dacs a few times even with the glitches. The model four had better dynamics, lower and better bass, the image the 4 threw out had better definition with greater front and back stage definition. The model 4 also sounded more open on top. We also fired up Filburts assemblage dac and played that with the model 4. The assemblage had greater bass weight and tonally was thicker sounding but the 4 had greater feeling of openness to me, they both were really great but I may be used to the metric halo house sound. I would really like to do a longer term comparison as I think particularly with dacs differences are more subtle and are often time heard better after a few days with a the "better" unit in your system then switch back the the other unit. We did salvage the day with a few pints from Toranado beer bar after the listening was done.
