1. HOLY COW! the Atmos is a screaming amazing cart and as good as the Yatra, Fuji and Bloom were the Atmos smokes the living daylights out of them. I'm going to give it a break in over 25 hours or to begin to listen seriously as most reviews point to this time frame for suspension break in. So far all aspects of reproduction are vastly improved, sounds really jump out of the speakers . Listening to Willie Nelsons Stardust, what a fun record, and the guitar snap is wonderful and the vocals are just magnificent.
2. Spumoni Gardens Pizza from Brooklyn square slices !! Ed great pics I have to try that place if I am in Az again
3. Dixie Dreggs What If LP , great record!
4. yes Greg the Bloom has better mids than the Denon but the Denon has the better bass. In the end it is a trade off but I am going to sell the Denon on the net few days and stick with the Bloom as a back up for the Atmos. Liking the Bloom over the Denon does not make the Denon suck. Both the Shelter and Denon are great carts in their own right but at the end of the day given the trade offs with each cart I do really prefer the Bloom. You could get the ZYX RS100 on ebay for $680:jacob:
5. great looking arms, nice score Ari! I really love the look of the SME arms but admit to never having heard a SME product, I had a strong lust for the TTs for a while.
6. just as an update a month or so ago I bought my Bloom back from Dan by way of Alex and WOW what a great cart. Not sure what I was thinking when I sold it, although I dod just upgrade to the Atmos but I do think this will remain the back up. It is a shame that Zyx got greedy and axed Sora Sound as Mehran was a great dealer/dist for them. At $500 it was the deal of the century at $1000 it is a tougher sell. Still great for a grand just tough to stomach a 100% markup over the previous price. Hate to say it but I like it over the Denon DL-S1.
7. the Lenco and 301/401s I have heard at shows have been stunning, when mated with a great plinth they are top class decks on a side note I ordered a ZYX Atmos today and hope that it is all it is cracked up to be
8. Mike have a great today, the final day of Mikapaloza!! It was great to celebrate your Bday with you.
9. Greg, my brother from another mother, Happy Birthday hope you have a great day.
10. I wonder if when I can record the difference digitally? In the metric halo console I can pull the signal from the firewire send and route it to the digital recording console?
11. actually this is possibly the best backwards scam ever invented, he is pure mad genius and maybe turning the audiophile community on its ear by pointing out the absurd with coconuts and exeres pods
12. Yeah screw that , it reminds me of people that volunteer for stuff then drop the ball
13. I really liked the 17D3 but thought that the Zyx Fuji was better on the Sony table. I would like to listen to the 17D3 on the Origin Live to see where it performs relative to the Denon.
14. Cart update So far the Denon DL-S1 is ruling the roost to my ears and preference. The Soundsmith while showing great promise was a mismatch for the mic or line inputs of the Sonic 305, so no more MM or MI carts for me. The Shelter while silky smooth in the mids just can't match the Denon's extension on both ends. Denon's bass slam is outstanding my only quibble would be the mids are just a slight touch hard. They are not in any poor just not as smooth as the Shelter which could be a tad romantic in the mids. Keep in mind that all these carts float in the around $1000 or sub $1000 range. For the life of me I can't fugure out how they can't make a totally amazing cart for a grand but so be it. Right now the Denon is as close as it got for me. I do need to put the ZYX up fbut I'm not wrestling with the Mint LP protractor any more today. Looks like the Denon DL-s1 is the keeper and I'll be stepping up a rung for my next move to the $2k range over the next year.
15. IT has become apparent to me that I am co-dependent with Apple and ATT since I just pre-ordered my iphone 4 through Apple. While I am significantly more pissed at ATT I do blame Apple for not holding them more accountable. How can ATT and Apple screw this up given their core competencies.
16. The awesome part is now the premier site has them as sold out. Hope Steve and his factories can pump out a few million more of these in a month. Wonder if anyone has looked at the iphones impact on the earth from a mining perspective. These must be one large ass hole in Africa somewhere where the minerals for the chips come from.
17. Frank OMG that amp looks stunning can't wait till Mayberry to hear what you've cooked up. I'd love a 211/845 based tube design. the BH sounds great with push pull configured tubes but normally I do not like 34/kt88s as they can sound hard and give me listening fatigue over time. The BH did not have the ill effects that I am normally used to in these tubes. Love them for Marshall stacks though
18. Actually that is not a half bad looking set for a modern release, most modern releases look completely brick walled sausage. That release still has a fair amount of dynamic range intact some of those songs could have easily been a result of what he was given. Take most modern releases and you'll see this has shit loads of dynamic range compared to most. I just had a look at Stanton Moore's CD release lll from a Telarc related label and the graphs are nightmares compared to these. Now the only way he got the release to have any dynamic range was with the artists and labels permission as most command the mastering engineer to make it LOUDER. Blame Phil Spector not this guy.
19. This may be the most frustrating cell phone upgrade ever, I've attempted to give ATT my money now on 5 separate occasions. THEY SUCK BALLS the web told me to call and the phone rep said to use the web then yesterday a phone rep told me they were pausing sales to get caught up. I'll just wait until the dust settles.
20. wall mounted the turntable today, other than the fear of having a $6k table dropping 4 feet to an untimely death, it has been great. No more footfall issues and it allowed to get my components out from the middle of the speakers. Still experimenting with carts and think I'll wind up selling all I've got and stepping it up a notch to either a used shelter 90x or a zyx airy or atmos. On the Classic Records front with Music Dorect at CanJam I was able to score a FZ Hot Rats and a back up copy of KOB for $25 a piece.
21. David have a great birthday, hope your having a great beer at Father's Office
22. Greg any of the MM series is awesome I do highly recommend just about all of them the Lee Morgan stuff is killer, so far I like the Grant Green stuff, the Gill Mele LP is sweet but there are ust so many great performances with really good sound as well. Don't forget the AP Impulse series stuff or the Coltrane Giants Steps 45 RPM. Just got my Target 2 shelf wall unit delivered I'll be putting it up thursday night just in time for the mint protractor to arrive.
23. From a cost to dollars perspective yes the M3 is the way to go and you give up little to nothing. I am in the minority in not liking the B22 sound as to me it is sterile and uninvolving unless matched with a more aggressive headphone like an RS1. Use it with a 701, 650 or any other smoother HP and it is too boring for me. The dynahi was a great amp and one I wish I had kept, it is a space heater and in your situation may be a bad choice if the additional heat of the amp is an issue for you. I'd ask KG is the room temp is an issue for the amp. The M3 that I heard was Dan's an an excellent amp, I only heard it with the JH13s at the NYC meet but it sounded great. I am not aware of people doing comprehensive comparisons to these amps though so most comments will be from memory.
24. Matt I am shocked and dismayed by you total lack of respect for alcohol, endangering the lives of a handicapped man and a soldier defending our country is utterly shameful. I hope when you see you'll have to drink again to wipe the shame right off your face.
