cool, PS the J-Fet amp is the goods can't wait to have you guys test ride it with your fav cans. A bit of a hiss with JHs but AT AD 2ks are sublime
  2. unless they are springing some non standard shit I would skip most PA beer great for local drinking but not worth the limited (in the context of a festival) tastes you'll get before you are shot. Here is my short list Russian River Three Floyds Cigar City Deschutes Ninkasi Walking Man Every Pizza Port ( they brew some incredible beer) Ballast Point AleSmith Bruery If Triple Rock is pouring a cask/gravity beer I'd grab a taste I tend to only drink what I can't get at festivals before I drink stuff I can score on tap or in bottles

Whatever we went last year for burgers and bourbon is where I must return!!
  4. I really like Nicaragua, Rwanda, Peru, Bolivia, Panama, Kenya and Ethiopia for coffee in general but there is great coffee available from most countries that have the altitude. I'm not nuch of a blue mountain or kona fan as they are way too mild for me and waaaaayyyy overpriced. For the same money I can get small lot coffee that just one regional cupping events. If you ever get real Cuban coffee it can be outstanding, not the style of coffee but beans from there, good stuff.
  5. Met a few rock guys in the 90s working in retail cd stores Davies brothers Ray was a sweetheart and down to earth while Dave Davies was a loud drunk pouring beer on people in the meet and greet. Lemmy of Motorhead, hellacious B/O but a real nice person Chris Rock, he shopped in my store in Brooklyn and bit too close for comfort to the Pookie character in New Jack City but a good guy Dice Clay, shopped in another Brooklyn store and was completely wasted luckily he had a handler with him that kept him in check Sarah McLaughlin, met her on my B-Day in DFW airport, totally cool lady Todd Rundgren, did an instore appearance at a store in NYC I ran, what a great guy wrote a letter to my boss about how great we treated him. I was shocked he went out of his way to do this. Deon Sanders, mixed review on him, he was promoting his rap cd in the same NYC store and was a bit of a pain in the ass but signed a slew of footaball afterwards which was a cool move on his part. War, same store performed an in store concert, we busted a percussionist lifting cassettes after the show. Nice guys except the klepto Ben Harper, totally cool we hung out with him after a show downtown NYC after his first CD was released. Maybe the most down to earth musician I have met LL Cool J, nice guy met him pre tv career whens Queens rappers were all the rage The Fat Boys, fun guys always a riot when they came in the store All and All most were nice guys when approached respectfully
  6. Home or portable the JH13s are my go to, to me they just get the tone right. I understand that the Stax Mafia disagrees but I'd put up a well done JH13 rig up against the O2s. (oh the humanity)
  7. most commercial grade coffee sucks balls and is the reason that milk and sugar are required by most people. I'm a bit intense about my coffee but home roasting takes 20 unsupervised minutes per week and it blows away store bought. Todd try Small Batch Craft-Roasted Coffee from Sweet Maria's! pricey but worth every penny.
  8. I didn't ask when I spoke to them
  9. I'm cool with the delay and trust that Jerry will release a product equal to or greater than what I heard at CanJam. I'm paid in full and pissed at Matt a bit for taking his marbles and walking off. Knowing both guys if I had to choose which I'd throw in with sight unseen it would be Jerry Harvey every day of the week. No way in hell I'm canceling as this is not rocket science we're talking about and Jery appears to have got a great pinch hitter to reclaim the project.

All I can say is I felt the Metric Halo ULN- 8 was a step up from the Berkeley Alpha DAC, which I am not that impressed with sonically. While $4000 for the LIO- 8 and $6000 for the ULN- 8 is not chicken feed the way Mike and I and to a lesser degree Al use the unit as a DAC, Phono pre and system pre amp is goes from ouch to very reasonable. The thing that sucks is I am now considering buying a pair of stereo mics for local recordings. Oh and as for RMAF, this year is going to be jam packed as Marjorie the event organizer sold all vendor rooms out. We are also doing a raffle to draw attendees into the room. Now I just need to get going on table space and local rigs apologies for the back to back posts (lack of coffee)

Justin I emailed you 7/6 from my yahoo account, I'll sent another email to you today. I'd love to see you there.
  12. There is no need for an additional amp to get great sound out of the JH13s but that said they respond in a great way to increased quality in outboard amps over ipad/iphone/ipad built in amps. After listening with a LOD/amp the iphone direct route is a noticeable step down. Mostly instrument separation/soundstage expands to a large degree with an outboard amp. So they are fully enjoyable without an outboard amp but you leave alot of performance out not going that route

Dang I was gonna make you like the Merlins this year!
  14. They scale like a MF'er, I would not recommend most tube amps and yes I have heard it with the Sonnet(t). The PWD with an M3 would be my go to

V and Al come in late Friday and leave late Sunday, its a great show. The headphone part is great but getting to hear all the SOTA speaker rigs makes it a show not to be missed.
  18. Ended up bailing on the Altecs after my help was not able to make it. These are now marked down to $1500 but i'm going to pass as the Alon speakers I have rock and RMAF is right around the corner.
  19. Matt here is to a HOPPY BIRTHDAY filled with bucketloads of beer

Congrats Naaman, I am forever amazed at the amount of poo that can be generated by something that small. The few times I have watched an infant for a friend it always amazed me.
  21. Pete I'd be really interested to hear how the changes impacted the 1200 as I really think the late 70s DD decks are absolutely outstanding. The Koetsu experience was very different for me, I heard a Koetsu after hearing and being fairly familiar with a Lyra on Al's VPI set up. The Lyra was slightly too thin for my tastes but still very good bu the Koetsu was thick and felt slow (it seemed to rob the music of pace). Different tables/arms could lead to an entirely different experience though. I am intriuged by the A90 (?) from Ortofon probably because of the appearance as much as anything else.
  22. Geez are all the new guys complete douche nozzles?
  23. these were pretty amazing sounding when I heard them http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/exemplar/studio.jpg
  24. I've got a great pair of speakers in the Alon Lotus SE's. They do so much right and are untouchable (IMHO) in the used under $2k category but I have been chasing the horn dragon since attending VSAC a few years back. Best sound at the show for me was a toss up between the GoTo horns and the modded Altec Voice of the Theaters that Exemplar was running. The presence was downright scary and they were super fast. Well I've owned the Klipsch Heresy speakers and they did not do much for me. They were fun but showed their age with lack of extension and detail. This was after a cap upgrade and tweeter upgrade. They were good for the $$$ but not keepers. So I am pondering a move to Altec Model 19s or Khorns. I am probably more serious about the 19s simply because they are slightly smaller. Both are crazy at 143 lbs and 180 lbs and both are about 40 inches wide by 24 inches plus deep but the Khorns are a foot and a half taller (not sure that even would matter). Anyway anybody here have experience with these beasts? I know David loves the 19s but I am looking for second opinions. This is for a second speaker rig as my living arrangements today lend themself to a second system.
