  1. I'm considering getting a cheap cd player/transport so I can conveniently put on discs without the need to rip them first. I would be feeding (probably) the toslink to my miniDAC and from there balanced out to my Beta22. The player would need to sound at least as good as the ripped CD's do when fed from my H120s' toslink out. The player doesn't need to be portable and the only format it will need to play are redbook standard CD's. I've tried using my cheap technics system but that is thin and tinny compared to my H120. Are there players that fit this bill ? I will be saving up for a Cambridge Audio 840C in my future but as this will likely take until the winter/spring a stop-gap solution is very tempting.

    Passage

I'm playing the Windows.exe version on Vista at present, no obvious problem.
  3. I forgot to say I was, opening the picture link in another tab, then :
  4. It works for me, just left click with your mouse on the picture - first left click maximises, second left click returns the image to normal.

The working direct link is http://hcsoftware.sourceforge.net/passage
  6. fixed that for you
  7. spotted "UNDERSTANDING, FINDING & ELIMINATING GROUND LOOPS IN AUDIO & VIDEO SYSTEMS" by Bill Whitlock http://www.jensen-transformers.com/an/generic%20seminar.pdf I'll give it a proper read in a week or so but it seems to cover a bit p.s. I too am happy to be proven wrong, I've still much to learn
  8. a multi socket power conditioner should also have benefit that all connected components will link to the same wall socket so differing ground values shouldn't be a problem.
  9. a me too It's the search box in the toolbar at the top of each page (just below the date and time).
  10. I guess you mean "peon" Read some more
  11. The concept I can understand but why are they wearing pyjammas

  13. I just checked the price for a lessloss dac and looking at http://www.lessloss.com/pricing.html it is listed at 2995 Euros not $2000 I'm reading these threads with interest but I think upgrading from my mini-dac will mean the purchase of a Cambridge Azur 840C (after more saving )
  14. If your IT guy is more comfortable working with Piwik and you get the same functionality then humour him. Opensource means he'll have full access to the code so knows what the program requires, what it will do and can fix any vulnerabilities as and when they arise. Proprietary / closed programs mean you adopt a hope and pray approach as you give up control to the product manufactures and just hope that the code they write is non-malicious and will harmonise with all the other manufacturers and codes your servers run :fingers-crossed:
  15. I'm not really bothered, Firefox and RIP (Remove It Permanently) are working very well https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/521 other solutions were discussed here: http://www.head-case.org/off-topic/way-to-go-head-fi/
  16. Find out if the prospective buyer is on friendly terms with an established head-fier in Israel, it might be possible to do the international shipment and confirmation of delivery with them (photographic proof of receipt could help), then the buyer could pick up the amp locally once it arrived. just a thought: not something I've tried
  17. HD650 bought from antonyfirst My K340 has lost sound on one side 3 days ago (wire that needs resoldered) so I'm really counting the days until music returns to my ears
  18. I'm about to start fiddling with wires as I build up to making myself some cables (balanced interconnect and a balanced headphone amongst others). 26 awg spc solid core wire electrical insulating tape rather than heatshrink (I found a heatgun a bit expensive for learning) a hand drill for twisting the wire Is there an optimal number of turns per inch to twisted pair and starquad cable when used for balanced headphone based audio ? I am aware that cable capacitance can increase with density of wire present at a point (so less turns might be better) and that the common mode noise rejection will cancel interference only if it affects both wires equally (ergo more twists means the cable will be better for this). If any of this is wrong, corrections gratefully received.
  19. Thanks Chancho, good to know

I don't see the big feet but: long hair hair drops left, skirt border drops to the right, fat folds in legs+ hair behind head + falling petals point down wonky the broken neck is spooky
  21. good suggestion Here's the local link Duggeh http://www.fifedirect.org.uk/atoz/index.cfm?fuseaction=service.display&objectid=855CB7FD-F564-4B4E-966623207712B916
  22. St. Andrews isn't known for its heavy industries that much localised mercury would seem a bit odd. Uranium is more common (naturally occuring in rocks) in the north of Scotland (Aberdeen) but as that's locked in the rocks and immobile it's not practical either (no radon emmision). The most obvious deterrent is the threat of students living next door, but as duggeh is there already his neighbours appear to be diehards The sound may be radiating through their windows rather than the walls, maybe check that and if that's a point, ask them to shut the windows when they party late.
