Anyone willing to make a Xhadow XLR chassis mount for me ?
Spiug31 replied to Spiug31's topic in Do It Yourself
Putting together a pair of xhadow terminated balanced interconnects are the next audio project in my future. Mogami Neglex, Silver plated copper, UPOCC silver, UPOCC copper, Mundorf silver/gold and some of the Aural Harmony wire are each on my current list to hear -

I been trying to bring up the HF home page for the past five minutes and seem to only be getting a page with: "Database error The database has encountered a problem." I generally only check the for sale pages so would have missed any announcement but was this downtime expected ? http://www.head-fi.org/

On the bright side, it may end in 4 weeks time when they do the first collisions

Here is a pdf of interest with timings for the day http://lhc-first-beam.web.cern.ch/lhc-first-beam/documents/CERN_LHC_first_beam_day.pdf it's the broadcast itinerary with all the relevant times (in CET). Apparently CET (Central European summer time) = UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) + 2 hours it makes my brain hurt working out local timings so check the pdf and make your own assumptions as to what time it's all at. (going to lie down )

CERN announces start-up date for Large Hadron Collider - 07:30 CET (08:30 BST) I heard a trailer for BBC Radio4`s "Big Bang Day" themed around switch-on of the LHC and it got me thinking BBC - Radio 4 - Big Bang Day The CERN home page also has link to a live webcast for the occasion. Ergonomic keyboards and trackballs questions
Spiug31 replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
After reading page 2 of the pdf at Computers and Rheumatoid Arthritis - NRAS it appears there are some specific suggestions a keyguard - prevents mishitting / multi hitting of keys and lets the hands rest on the keyboard use more hotkeys for navigation use of speech recognition software a wrist-rest positioned prior to the mouse a rollerball or trackball or touchpad each of these suggestions are however user specific so they`d still need to figure out for themselves what works best. beyond this I am aware of some technically fun options such as a devices to track eye or head movement but their novelty tends to bring extra cost. -
yes, but I tend to pick up errors a bit late

Ergonomic keyboards and trackballs questions
Spiug31 replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
It depends what you are getting it for. When I was looking a couple of years ago the Maltron Keyboards were the only ones advertised to aid RSI recovery RSI Recovery - The Way Forward I do find the rotated hand position less stressful and the buttons are much more at my fingertips than my previous qwerty inspired flat keyboards (no more hunt and peck ). a less expensive way to try this layout is via the money back policy at Ergomatic Keyboard from Ergo-comp for gaming (if that is your concern) there are gaming pads etc. I don`t use a trackball so can`t help with that - I use an evoluent mouse on a Razer exactmat instead. n.b. I`m using OpenBSD with an fvwm desktop, much of what I do is accomplished in xterms without the need for mousing. -
I tend to redo posts 3 times or more to get the first post `right` so it may get quite cluttered if my post + revisions were shown at once. As an aid to curiosity though and if it could be done without being intrusive to a threads` flow I`d be unbothered by it

Thanks Dusty, just watched it, 3 x lol I liked some tunes and the storyline is holding my interest looking forward to downloading these episodes later.

sounds like a Darwin award contender

Hi all, I`d like some advice on the helpfulness or futility of wearing gloves while soldering (some suggestions of gloves to get, if useful would also help). Also are there any practical solutions for newbie burn prevention while learning to solder ? My head will be behind a thick lense when soldering so goggles aren`t a concern and there will be a strong flow of air to remove fumes from my vicinity. The most likely soldering station I`ll buy is a Xytronic 369 the same apparent model is labeled as a 379 in America. Rapid Electronics - Auto-temp 369 soldering station

what is pictured in the first picture ? (I recognise some names / words but not the context) that pictures and the one with the shadow of a radio tower are my favourites

"Also, any chance of the warning that a new post has been made while typing your reply?" In the similar large red letters please I'm a slow typer/thinker - that too was a useful feature Also will the "Quote" button be appearing again on individual messages while within the "reply to Thread" mode. p.s. many thanks for doing all this work "having buttons I could click for posts "since I last logged-in" and "replies to thread I've posted in" was a boon." I've just spotted the "New Posts" button

Any likelihood of increasing the size limit for each image in albums ? 97.3 KB is too small to make out details of mini-dacs' internals, previously the image file was 299KB. p.s. I preferred the previous site aesthetics and having buttons I could click for posts "since I last logged-in" and "replies to thread I've posted in" was a boon.

It looks like the retail price over here for a CDR-602 is around -

Spiug31 replied to Spiug31's topic in Home Source Components
I had a look and this puts my mind somewhat at rest http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t48101.html ------- I may have found a UK source for an NEC Multispin 6Xe CDR-602, I've dropped them an e-mail and will try and source one locally first (may have cheaper overall postage and a UK rated power supply) -

At that price I would consider it . I've just seen one on eBay which I can't get due to "collection only" but I'll keep an eye out and see if I can snag one. The review of a CE595 here: http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue21/ce595.htm seems to say its laid-back and warm. As this will be going to my miniDAC then to my Beta22 (both of which tend to get described as warm), is this likely to be a problem ? Duly noted, What price point would you consider worthwhile as a minimum ? --------- Thanks Dusty, that looks ideal - I'd need some help buying that particular one though (no overseas postage). pm me if your feeling helpful. (would you be willing to receive it then ship it out ?) -

I can/could do it through my PC (this actually sounds markedly better than my H120). I was however hoping for a solution that would allow me to not need my pc. how much more is a tad ? [each pound I divert to this means it'll take me longer to get an 840C so it's not something I'd go over $200 for and $100 is where I comfy.]
