I didn't go that far into the headphone. I only took off the earpad and the metal mesh under the earpad. The bedris was just underneath the metal mesh and on top of the driver assembly (or whatever you call it.) If the cause of the problem are in the driver... I wouldn't dare to clean it myself... It only took me 2 sec to blow off the debris, but it took me like 10min to take off and put back the earpad... There is no way that they could have missed it if they did any final inspection...

well... please correct me if I'm wrong.. I thought that the fart is the diaphram hitting the stator and causing it to discharge or something like that.... I have experienced stax fart with both 007MK1 and 009 as well... 009 is nowhere as severe as 007MK1 in terms of that. With 009, I can still shake my head a little without the fart... With 007MK1, I had to stay very still because even moving the jaw could trigger one..... The squealing... I don't exactly the reason, but I do know dust on the driver can cause that. In my case, because there was so much debris on my 009's driver, it became more like a consistent hissing with a little occasional squealing.. Anyway, it's just unacceptable how they let this set pass the QC because that hissing sound was LOUD; in fact, it's so loud that I can hear it even when my ear was 5 inches away from the driver (as I was lifting that side of the headphone to determine if the hissing was from an external source.) A quick google search returned me no other report of such problem... so I guess mine might have been the first one to have such a poor QC?

just got my 009.... I can't say I'm 100% pleased.... The first thing I heard when I put them on was squealing... The exact same sound as those in ESP950... I was freaking out to say the least... I waited 4 and half months for it and spent quite a sum of money too.. So... I opened it up.. Guess what I saw underneath the metal mesh cover? hair from cotton.... plenty of them.... I blew them off and the squealing is gone.... Come on STAX! I know you guys are packed with orders for 009, but really? The first thing I have do to after receiving it is cleaning it? WTF man.... Also... I thought 007's earpads are the antichrist... man was I wrong when I was trying to put the earpads for 009 back... do they really have to design it like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srZO8QuOsME Man... this is upsetting.. That's why I alwasy stay as far away from biker crowds as possible when driving.

You have to remember Tyll still has a website to run. We can piss everyone off and don't care about it, but Tyll can't. LL might not be an ideal amp for us, but there are probably those who like it despite its shortcomings. We are merely pointing out its shortcomings here. Also, you have to take anyone's subjective evaluation of gears with a grain of salt, even Tyll's or Birgir's. If you really want to know how it sounds, go try it instead of sitting here imagining its sound by reading what other people think of it, end of the story.

that was way too much bullshit in one post for my liking.... yeah.. you can keep circumventing the real problem and stay in your little bubble of everything is okay as long as no one is harmed yet... I surely hope that is your last post if those meaning less crap are all that you can come up with.

phils bbq is great (except for the line, but you can get carry out and skip the line) convoy st. if you are into Chinese food. Also, bring warmer clothes if you plan to go out for a walk at night, because it can get fairly windy and cold. Regardless, have fun!

Well.. I would have thought the same if they didn't claim that they designed the speakers... Or maybe Emotiva didn't design these speakers; instead, Emotiva just got them rebranded? Also worth to note that the retail price in USD of these speakers in China is almost the same as the price that Emotiva is asking for theirs....

I didn't want to comment on the solder jobs, because I thought there has been enough talked about it, but apparently some think that there has not been enough criticism on it.... let just say I did a better job on my first ever DIY project... These solder joints are just so inconsistent, it's as if his eyes were elsewhere when he was soldering this board... some joints has as little solder as the amount I would use to keep the parts in place prior to proper soldering... and some just have overflowing solder... not to say so many of them just seem cold... It's suffice to say that it's a miracle that it survived this long. IMO, even if the amp doesn't present a safety hazard, which it does, it still should be heavily criticized for its poor craftsmanship at such a premium price. I don't believe Spritzer or Kevin would go down this hard if at least the solder joints were done properly, safety procautions were implemented correctly, and priced accordingly. There is a place for every amp, and this one is certainly out of place.

I think the doubt over the credibility of HF was never in doubt..... I believe those "unconvincing" posts are the most that you can get away with. If you want to post more convincing stuff... go right ahead... I will definitely applaud your effort.

http://www.qmsaudio.com/products.asp Seems like Emotiva Airmotiv and Stealth just got their patent/copy right infringed by a Chinese firm... The Q line is the copy of Airmotiv and the MH line is the copy of Stealth... They didn't even bother change the look one bit for the Airmotiv... as for the Stealth.. it is probably too difficult to copy so they just made it flat which looks butt ugly. People are praising these copies like crazy in China.... I wonder why Emotiva would let these people do this... EDIT: As difficult as it is to admit.... their Q line goes all the way back to the beginning of 2010 and MH line back to the mid 2009... where as I can find no information on Airmotiv or Stealth before 2011....

Just placed an order for the Airmotiv 4.. Oddly they didn't charge me for shipping. I thought $250+shipping would be a good price, but at $250 shipping included, it's a steal. 5 year warranty still applies. Thank you very much for sharing!

crap... this is as expensive as the old 2sj/2sk... and there is quota on the amount you can purchase... how are people supposed to get them matched if they can only buy 8 of them per month.... (wait half a year to get a good matched quad?) this is crazy..

yeah... it's completely awesome

Which board do you have? This? Schematic with the old parts is here. You should use those older and probably better parts anyway. There are at least 2 big revisions since I built mine, but I was under the impression that they are only small tweaks like adding the servo... Maybe I'm just talking out of my behind....

hmm... I thought the amp board has 4 leds for 1968 and 3 leds for IXYS... did I miss something here?
-
I think I have the v0.5 and it's fixed, but don't trust my word, because I don't have the board with me as I type this. You should just check your board against the schematic. It should be fairly easy to identify. I can check for you when I get home. never mind that! I didn't see GeorgeP already answered it.

Thanks wink. That sounds like the formula the product that I bought uses: borax plus some sugar water. If that doesn't work I will cook up a home brew batch.
-
Thanks. I found this. Hopefully it works. Meanwhile I'll try some cinnamon sticks to keep those little things away. Really scared me when I saw them inside. One almost cralwed across the 4686As' and the IXYS' leads.

I turned on my KGSSHV today to adjust the offsets in preparation for the 009 that I will probably be getting next month. I never did properly get it lowered... They were around +20V.. no big deal, but I figured why not lower it if I can... 20 min into the warm up and I opened the cover... to my horror... I found quite a few ants crawling about inside the amp.... It's that time of the year again. Ants are everywhere, but I didn't expect to find them in my amp. I need to find a way to keep ants away from my gears. Do you guys have any suggestion?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NCD2S4?tag=d000001-20&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER The pioneer Andrew Jones speakers are on sale again. The book shelf ones are also on sale, but not as significant as before.

I love my 1600, but the power switch seems to only control the input and output selector but not the circuit itself. The output stage runs warm and I'm always worried about the caps inside. Do you guys just leave it on or do you unplug the power cord when not in use?

bdent seems to have finally gotten their shit together. The server is still slower than what it used to be but at least the search function seems to be fully functional and the quantity discount is back. My account tho, is still in the wind. I don't imagine they will ever restore those data now; however, they have 15% discount for new customers, maybe I'm qualified for it?

seems like 100ohm if it's brown black black black brown..... it's always hard for me to tell the difference between black and dark blue tho..
