  1. "Took waterfall" meaning they took a cumulative spectral decay plot of the headphones, aka a waterfall plot. "Uber leet" meaning significantly full of positive qualities above the norm for that headphone. Also they may be capable of getting "mad headshots" and have "uber micro."
  2. I just tried and it didn't work on markl either.
  3. Yeah... after the amount of time and money others and I have put into trying to make some sense of AKG's production changes on their headphones, I'll pretty much only trust empirical evidence or info directly from AKG (and even they've been incorrect at times). Should I go start the HF thread for it?
  4. Sauce? Or is this part of the aforementioned hearsay?
  5. One would assume so, until one listens to both side by side, or reads/looks at the measured differences, or thinks about the numerous other headphones AKG has done the same thing on. EDIT: Until I did the first two, I was skeptical of the possibility just based on the third (as until then I was only aware of hearsay on the matter with little in way of specifics), but the differences were quite clear and unmistakeable. I happen to fall into the category that prefers the sonic signature of the first version, and would more likely reach for my K240 or K401 than the second version K1000. Some people are exactly the opposite, and some prefer neither version.
  6. Since nobody seems to have really mentioned it, I'll point out that the K1000 used in the shootout was one of the high serial number ones, which have already been shown to have measurably less bass and lower midrange than the earlier ones. It is a much bigger difference than you'll have by using a different source and amp, so it's rather important to keep in mind when doing comparisons.
  7. Slept in until late morning. Listened to music for a while. Spent the afternoon listening to Tom Hankins' Harbeths. Came home with a stack of CDs. Listened to more music for a while, and still listening to music now. Overall a pretty good day, especially compared to last week.
  8. Does the Scottish post screen parcels for explosives?

    Sauce?
  10. 300VA 4x24V potted/shielded transformer from SumR.
  11. Try looking at the chassis work instead, you can get a better idea if an amp will sound good that way. The one with moar blinkenlichten, switches, and meters is probably the better one.
  12. Looks like she wired it so the fuse on the IEC inlet is bypassed. Brilliant.
  13. Whoa, when the hell did you come over here Rob?

    Speaker Porn

Yeah, it takes some pretty serious fail for it not to sound good.
  15. Replying here since it would probably be inappropriate for me to do so on the other site... I agree with you on this. Whether it was intended to fail or if she is actually that completely incompetent, I don't know, but she clearly did plan on passing the blame to the shipping company should anything go wrong. I've had faults occur in shipping (and am currently dealing with one right now), but unless the unit was physically damaged I'll always accept full responsibility for not properly ensuring it could survive the rough treatment that packages go through. Sure, it really sucks to have to apologize to the customer for the problem and eat the shipping costs to have it repaired, but if you sent a unit to somebody in good faith expecting it to work properly you wouldn't be making a point out of how ready you are to file a claim with the shipper. The shipping insurance is just that, insurance in case the unexpected happens, you don't fucking PLAN on it breaking! Sorry, it just annoys me when I see people getting away with shit like this without really getting their feet held to the fire. I suspect only a small number of people will end up actually seeing those pictures in the thread over there that's been moved to the feedback forum (especially since its separate from her regular feedback thread), so people will think it was just caused by shipping damage and that's all.
  16. It's also fun to start soldering half-asleep on a board with high voltage caps that haven't been discharged. More effective than coffee.
  17. Bah, that's what I do to check polarity on drivers when it isn't marked. Briefly put DC on it and see which way the diaphragm moves.
  18. As expected she is placing 100% of the blame on the shipping company. You really need to post those pictures over there, man.
  19. Not nicked, rather it looks like a solder joint to repair the wire. With no heatshrink on it.
  20. Ok yeah, Biggie I would recommend that you not turn the amp on again until that PSU board is properly mounted on stand-offs. Actually, unless you can tell whether the power switch is on the live or neutral wire, probably best to leave it unplugged as well. That board is wired directly to 120V, and the chassis is not earth grounded, so if the wire that isn't switched happens to be the live one, the switch won't mean a damn thing if it the board shorts out against the chassis. I also see an exposed solder joint on the mains wiring between the two PSUs.
  21. Holy fuck, is that power supply screwed directly to the chassis with a piece of goddamn PACKING TAPE under it?!?!
  22. You have no idea how confused I was when the Booty Sweat commercial started at the beginning of that movie. I only vaguely knew what it was about, but I knew it didnt have anything to do with no booty sweat.
