The southeast is due for a shitstorm of a snurricane. It's been nigh seven years. The sandals I wore today are proof.

bizarre. We've been having 70-75 degree weather in Mont Chapelle - that is far from normal for a december.

Law and Order Goddamn writers strike.

it is interesting just how squishy the buyin/selling etiquette really is.

Then that is sort of shitty - I'd hold something awhile if someone put down that kind of money.

HI YOU SHIP TO UKRAINE?

After being strung along for close to a week with a current sale - I can understand the first one to cough up the cash way of doing things. If you know them or put down a 20-30% down payment, that's different, but if I don't know you and you want me to hold it, you can bet I'll sell to someone else who pays up - their money is real, yours is still "maybe".

I only wish I had an apartment big enough to necessitate a listening area away from my computers. Perhaps I could avoid the siren call of web forums and actually get some work done.

I can't tolerate being far from the volume control, so 1.5m is almost always enough for me. My left hand acts as a compressor all of its own.

I'm a big fan of the 0404usb for several reasons, not the last of which is the fact I can easily have two sources connected to it (one usb, one spdif). And additionally, a third via the analog inputs (which default to hard panned L and R), though I've only tested this, I don't use it regularly. All inputs are mixed to the output in "direct monitor" mode. I like it over something like the squeezebox because the interface is, well, there isn't one. It's just my computer's output. Afterthe horror that was the audiotron, I prefer interface transparency. In your solution you could use a very long USB cable (they make em with a mini-hub/repeater for >25' runs) and not worry about the spdif signal issues. Of course, any other usb type interface would work, though figuring out which ones use which dacs can be a pain.

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=3148550 That was in may, but more or less official about it ending in 2010.
-
Didn't ABC say it was only going to run til 2010? something like only 3 more seasons, shortened to 16 episodes each, which should reduce the tendency for really slow middle-of-the-season slumps. It's no BSG, or Firefly, or Deadwood, but at least it isn't 24.

If you had to downgrade your entire rig to $500 ...
ph0rk replied to jinp6301's topic in Miscellaneous
something like the 0404 usb, which i'd probably finagle price-wise as it serves double-duty (recording). 0404 usb ~$150 hd650 - ~$300 ebay Which doesn't leave a lot of room for an amp - i don't think ~$50 would improve over the 0404's amp. I spose a used 0404 usb - $75 used hd650 - $225(?) used glite $225 So, about $25 over. Crap, I should have bought my stuff used -
I'm not an assfaceoholic, I'm assfaceholio! I need TP for my assfacehole!

Like an explosion in your head Never heard 40-somethings rock quite like that. Jaz was 43 when KJ 2003 was released. As an aside, I knew my current Girlfriend loved me when she went to the Raleigh schoolkids records and bought their only copy for me on release day, before I even got there. (Man I was mad they sold out though!)

Yeah, I'm sure I'm just bitter because I totally got sucked in to the waste-your-20's-contracting thing, and have little to show for it save a vitriolic distaste for large bureaucratic companies, even though the academic field isn't really any different in terms of scale or myopia. I wouldn't really be too broken up inside if the precedent for companies making contractors employees if treated as such de facto was made more... strict? Crap like making employees taking a walk for one month out of twelve to "prove" they aren't real employees just makes things even worse for contractors, not better.
-
I guess I tend to forget how well they're regarded nationally, I just see them as yet another local employer that treats contractors like crap

Or who at least get an implant if they "knock out" a tooth and are going to be in front of cameras. If you won't give a shit about your image, why should I?
-
Killing Joke - They get better and better with time, like a fine wine or cheese. The White Stripes - Hyped as all hell yes, but simple composition is an art, imho. I disliked them at first too. Primus - what's not to love?
-
Amy Winehouse. I mean, really.

If you are willing to pay $75k each (cost adjusted from RTP, NC to Illinois), finding a decent coder and decent sql-monkey should be possible, unless there are just tons more geeks in the Triangle area (which is possible). A few years ago SAS had a job opening on their website for a statistical programmer. No advertising. Over 1000 (good) resumes in 24 hours.

I assumed he wanted them to be decent at them, hence the high salary. If he's already got a good dba, the coder doesn't need to know as much sql though.
