Raptor Tube Rolling Recommendations Please!
Knuckledragger replied to GordonFreeman's topic in Headphone Amplification
IAWTC. Billy has endured the wrath of both Tyll and Kevin Gilmore, which is not something I would wish on anybody. In spite of that, he's still here and bears no grudge. That is a testament to his character. -
Raptor Tube Rolling Recommendations Please!

I think most people came down on Gordon not because of the amp he owned, but because how responded: with infantile tantrums, ham-fisted condescension, and badly-veiled threats. There's at least one user on here who has the flagship (and therefore most-hated) RSA product, the B-52. He's not terribly active here, but there was a thread where some head-casers mocked his amp. He took the entire exchange in stride and responded in a good-natured manner. The motto of this place is "sorry about your thin skin" and that's not a joke. I disagree with ojnihs on one point, most new users do get hazed, to varying degrees. If you can get past the initial onslaught and show a bit of a clue (or at least willingness to learn) you may find you do okay here. Alternately, this place may be to acerbic for your liking. -
I noticed that the kitty, doghuh and sadcat are all 60 pixels on the larger side, so I made this one 60x55. I'm not sure the feeling of the pic is conveyed at such a small resolution. I'm going to try a tigher crop. That one's a bit better, but I'm not sure I'm sold on it. Thoughts?

Nice pics. The first shot has a very "2001 monolith" feel to it.

Wow. That last one is screaming to be captioned.

*The above may not apply to n_maher who presumably meant to do that.

In the relatively short time I've been on head-case, it has been my observation that you have a variety of rectal headwear. It's true, you do call out other people for their 'hattitude, but you seem to familiarize yourself with the concept through method acting. That said, I don't mean for a second to compare you to a troglodyte homunculus like Gordon. -
Late to the party, but with the somewhat huge caveat that I have never heard Darths (only stock 770s) I am willing to bet that the the TakeTs will completely pwn Darth Beyers in both bass impact and extension. I suspect the Darths have far more coloration sound, and it's quite possible that many will prefer this sound to the brutal analysis of the Fugs.

EWW! You people are a bunch of sick psychopaths! ...actually, I think nearly everyone has that thought. Somewhere I saw a video of that crusher in action, but of course I can't find it now. What that .gif doesn't convey is how INCREDIBLY LOUD the grinder is. That said, anyone want a gummi lighthouse? [Kinda NSWF]

When I tried it previously, nothing. I just logged out and back in again, and it appears to be working.

In time, she may grow into that nickname herself. ... JUST KIDDING, JUST KIDDING. PLZ STOP THROWING THIS AT ME! -
Opening up the case should be sufficient. The PSU in most PC cases is in the top back of the case. Its wattage output should be clearly labeled. If it's a good or even decent model, it should have amperage ratings on each output (12v rail, etc.) However, the PC PSU market is very crowded, and awash in absolute shit. Check what brand abd model PSU you have, post it here, and I might be able to give you some feedback on it. If you're going upgrade, there is only one brand to consider: PC Power and cooling. No fugly LEDs or transparent cases, and the just about the best design and construction of any PSU on the market. Miraculously, they're made in the USA. After an untimely power failure in 2006, I now use nothing but PCP&C PSUs (and APC UPSes.)

Cool. I have a friend who owns a DVD rental store, I have to browbeat him into buying this series.

Show own posts, how do I do that? I stared at my own profile like an idiot, and didn't see an obvious way to do that? I tried to click on the statistics link to see if the posts were hidden there, but the stats function doesn't appear to work. Am I missing something blindingly obvious here?

IAWTC. I am dyslexic, and those ergo-whatzit keyboards drive me absolutely batshit. They trigger all kinds of left/right brain crossover issues that I don't normally have. I can barely type on the sodding things.

Spent more hours today than I can to mention cross referencing prints from my film camera with jpegs from my digital SLR trying to figure out when I took various shots last week. Then I spent even longer comparing the field of view between my 35mm and 50mm, to identify which lens I used in various shots. This is a lot harder than one would imagine. Fortunately, I shot an entire roll with just my 50mm, so it served as a good baseline reference. Of course, I also switched between 135mm and 200mm primes on one roll, and it's all but impossible to tell which lens I used. Both lenses are manual focus, so they don't leave any EXIF data, even on my dSLR. After some careful research (and mining my foggy memory) I've mostly sorted it out. From now on, I'm carrying a journal (or a PDA) and writing down the time, date, lens and F-stop/aperture setting on every fricken shot I take with film. Isn't this was serious photographers did back in the 20th century? Then I found out Tim Russert died, and I was shocked. The rest of this political season won't be the same without him. Oh, yeah. Then I went and got the mail, and had a box with balanced DT-880s waiting for me. I've got them on right now. Sadly, they are driven in single-ended mode. They'll be that way until I get a balanced amp, duh. Capsule review: they definitely have a deeper bass extension than the 2K3 model, but will never be mistaken for HD-650s any time soon. They are just as comfortable as their predecessors, and have that same gorgeous floaty decay. They're also really easy on the eyes. Much better looking than the flat-sided 2003s.

In spite of the fact that I tended to shout "Ahh, Timmeh!" at the television when I saw him, I was greatly shocked and saddened when I found out about Russert's passing this afternoon. My heart goes out to his wife and children, who were still in Italy when he died. I'm afraid his shoes will not be easily filled.
