I hope it has output trafo's otherwise it doesn't make any sense. Given that the tubes can only take 450V max (though at least one WE datasheet claims 400V max) and the rather poor grid to plate capacitance (15pf) this is probably the worst tube they could have picked for the job. I for one don't get the allure of DHT's in something like this but hey, the audiophools think they are the bee's knees...

The ground on the Dynalo is shared but for lowest potential I'd connect the ground to the PSU. Shouldn't matter though... Too tired to look up the datasheets for those but many single opamps will work.

Leave the - output floating and just use the +.

Well it does come with an amp which probably doesn't actually work. Look up the 300B datasheets and their maximum plate voltage... I know Fang was touting these as some special 300B's but that's just utter BS. Also if he were to alter the plate voltage rating they would pretty much have to design a new tube...

Yeah but they are not beating them in terms of sales. That's what people always forget when lost in the HF hype BS. It is fleeting and doesn't really generate any sales except for a short peek. For Stax the 009's have been sold out from day one and they don't have a chance in hell of keeping the 007's in stock. They are constantly back ordered all over the world. Let's look at something like Cavalli, the pinnacle of the HF hype bullshit. If he was actually selling amps then he wouldn't need to trick some sucker every year to pour money into the company to try and keep it afloat. Same with Eddie Current and a bunch of other "favorites". I know for a fact that a large portion of my amps go to people who have never been on Head-fi. That could of course just be because the Stax discussion there is utter garbage and stupidity but I think it is because of the larger trend forming where HF just doesn't matter any more.

Back in the day B&O were excellent but now, not so much. Ever since the 80's they have been on a steady downward spiral. Since the last two distributors for them in Iceland have been friends of the family I've seen the insides of most of their gear and yeah... it's not good. The Icepower stuff is quite good but they have a pretty warped world view. The old stuff is amazing though. My aunt still uses one of those table top systems since the 70's and it works great to this day.

Clearly!! I found some pics of the K-07x and since the primary is just two wires next to each other then I bet it is a single primary transformer. When Stax do 100V only they still have to use 4 wires. Actually 5 since the thermal fuse is on its own wire.

Just open up the plastic cover on top of the transformers. I did look at some pics and I don't think the Esoteric units have those covers. What component are you using Marc?

On the Stax stuff they cut the lead wires into the transformer. On the more expensive amps they actually cut the winding's as they are connected to the terminals on the transformer.

I'l get something like the E-560 or E-600 to play with from Japan. Only issue is shipping them as they are...ehh..hefty to say the least.

Yeah and the NTE stuff is usually just general replacements for something else.

Yeah Kevin was talking about the TI super expensive film resistors or the crazy pants stuff found inside high end multimeters. Those are power resistors so not the same thing.

I've heard that they use 100V only transformers on the Japanese gear but haven't verified it. On the cheaper amps it was usually just a matter of missing leads but on the 007/727 they cut the actual winding's.

Yeah only the MPSW and MPSA transitors work on that board. Is it also a reflection or are the 1486's in backwards? Also those thick film resistors will work but not a great idea in the feedback line. Also all those 1/4W resistors have to go as those are the spots that either need higher power handling or more voltage handling.

Ahh yeah, the mighty detail machine that is the HD800. Now let's pair it with an amp that has the transparency of a puddle of mud and we are golden.

Post some pics of the boards as then stuff is easier to spot. A super bright LED is not normal...
