  1. I'd replace the foam too even though these have a reduced backwave from memory.
  2. Well the Malvalve doesn't really fall under this as it takes the electrostatic output directly from the plates. Dynamics are then driven through the transformers. This dates back to the 50's so nothing new there. I'm a bit surprised nobody has done it before as this is a really, really cheap way of doing electrostatic output. All you need is some relays and caps. My main issue here is that the 6V6 is absolutely dreadful for this role. Seriously, they couldn't have picked a worse tube for this. Roughly 300V max rating so yeah...
  3. I did a few in the past but transformers will always have huge problems.
  4. Chokes in the PSU vs. proper regulation? Well then chokes are just stupid. Reminds me of an email I was sent where Lampazitor was defending his crappy power supplies because people liked them at some meet. No actual testing, just "we liked the sound". Goes to show what shitty crap that stuff is.
  5. ...and this proves nothing at all.
  6. Nope, I even asked Jack if it was working correctly and he looked at me with a puzzled look and said "this is the upgraded version". Yeah....
  7. It is...
  8. Have fun restoring them and be careful with the energizer. No bridged amps and it is the definition of a rats nest...
  9. That's exactly it and why the reactive load plus a choke is such an utter clusterfuck. I mean seriously, everybody has to listen to the Woo WES at least once to bask in it's awfulness.
  10. 1/4W resistors are not ok and the RN60D resistors are actually CMF60 units which are rated at 500V. Read the datasheets properly.
  11. Chokes and electrostatics are a very bad idea. Just look at the piece of shit that is the Woo WES.
  12. The whole easy to drive is a bit of a loaded statement as while something works, it doesn't mean you can't do it better by adding some headroom to the design. Also grounded cathode is the bog standard of all bog standard designs so no copying here.
  13. 350V is the absolute minimum.
  14. That's the feedback I've been getting, like a mediocre Lambda. Did you try the Mr. Speakers prototype?
  15. http://www.moon-audio.com/sennheiser-headphone-chassis-mount-connector-he90.html
  16. The ESP9 headband also works a treat with these. Gotta love anything that has nails in it though...
  17. Indeed... The whole "getting used to something" doesn't really hold any water for me. Sure you can be fooled for a while (hello HE90!!) but it doesn't last for long. Also stating that the 009 works well with the BH is no surprise, it rolls off after 10kHz....
  18. That might not be enough if the plastic latch inside the switch is damaged. Should be easy enough to replace the switch if needed though.
  19. I'm still not happy about missing out on dinner with him... ahh well there is always next time.
  20. It was Larry's set and that is indeed Larry in the video.
  21. Ahh Mike Mercer, the dictionary definition of stupidity...
  22. Here you go: 100v: Gray+White White wire from the ACplug+Brown+Green 117v: Gray+White White wire from the AC plug+Blue+Purple 240v: Blue+White wire from the AC plug Purple+Gray
  23. Just did the same, it was excellent.
  24. Those large Sennheiser badges are just pure class...
  25. Yeah, that is kinda the point of the whole thing.
