Would it be frowned upon to use for instance a hardy sword made from damascus steel or something like that? I mean it might cut somebody in half but its a risk we are willing to take!!
-
Clearly!!! Since I don't drink any more I can be even more active in inventing new stuff for you to drink and "encouraging" more drinking.

Indeed, it is a discrete R2R dac but it has quite a few issues. Fine at the 300$ price tag but at 7-10K? Not so much...
-
While on the subject of crappy dac's... I was sent some internal pics of the R2R Lampazitor dac today (Golden Gate I believe but who gives a fuck). Well let's put it this way, Single Power was better built than this pile of fail but what makes this utterly glorious is the actual dac... So this is a multi thousand $ dac and what does the actual conversion... a Soekris DAM1021 diy module. Yup... output directly off the end of that, fed into a relay volume control (again a DIY off the shelf module) and into what ever the fuck those tubes do. I'm waiting for permission to post the pics but this is utterly retarded...

Fuck!!! I won't be in NYC until March 24 and fly back April 10.
-
I just finshed the board and we might be able to fit some SMD caps but through hole are out of the question.
-
The 1uf/450V caps I use are pretty small. We might cram on some small film caps too if the board will allow.
-
Is this better than the Carbon? Nope, but that's also not why we do these things.
-
Maybe... I'll certainly build one as this all started as a birthday present to me from Kevin.
-
The DAC isn't bad but I've modified it quite a bit.
-
I'm working on an SMD version.
-
That's what I was thinking as well. Might be slightly awkward though...

The funny thing about astrolube is utter lack of understanding of anything. So tubes must the be the same as all other tubes, "cuz toobz be magical!!" As it happens and I've heard two of the top end Lapazitor dacs and what utter turds. Seriously, this stuff is so bad that you have to question the sanity of the people to claim this is high end or they just don't grasp the concept of high fidelity. You know, the annoying bit about the end result being as close as source as is possible... Let's not go into how Lapazitor is built or designed. One of the Carbon owners was adamant that this was the true solution to all DAC's and even sent me some of the correspondence with the owners. Yeah...their idea of a power supply design is to listen to two equally sucky versions and then pick the winner. Who needs to measure noise and shit like that? As for the MSB dac...well that is my dac in the pictures and I can safely say that everything he stated is utter bullshit. This unit was bought directly from a dealer and the only upgrade done to it was replacing the USB input as there was something wrong with the original one. The rest of it left the factory like that.

It will surely be done by 6pm on Monday!! I'll look into updating the board a bit. Might change it all SMD and into stereo channels.

What info, that is just a bunch of meaningless crap. I do love how the first paragraph goes completely against the choice to omit feedback, which clearly made this clusterfuck of an amp better. You do realize that low output impedance for electrostatics is desirable?
-
Yeah, reminds me of the WES vs. BHSE review somebody did. Two reviewers who didn't actually compare the amps head to head and of the two the BHSE was too warm and the WES neutral. Anybody who has listened to these two amps knows this is utter bullshit. This is far from an isolated incident...
-
Yup that's the correct complimentary part but who knows if they'll continue to make them. That said, they aren't extremely high voltage so they might be of use to the normal people...
-
I that might be just be correct. As for those "reviewers", they are pretty much why the market is so fucked up. Why people like Single Power, RSA, Cavalli, ALO, DNA, Woo, Wells, etc. etc. continue to operate. "How I feel" with no real basis for comparison rules the roost. Ohh and "I own expensive shit" actually means something to these people when it is meaningless as anything. Anybody can buy expensive shit, doesn't mean you know anything about it.
-
It will need some heatsinking if we are to run it at reasonable current levels aka. mafia style. That said, nothing too excessive.
-
Ahhh, yet another high end snob who couldn't afford to buy a clue. Buy anything with a high enough pricetag to continue that lie that he knows anything. Utterly pathetic.
-
Yeah, male PSU connectors leading from the PSU are a terrible idea. Otherwise it looks good.
-
I can't see any signs of regulation but those heatshrink "things" between the caps intrigue me. Might just be a CRCRC supply or something like that. Needless to say...pretty shitty in a 2K amp let alone something this expensive.
-
I just can't wait for the review to come on HF from a guy who was stupid enough to get those Woo monoblock piles of shit. Reminds me of when Ray got Skylab to review the A10 and we drove him into the ground for having zero electrostatic experience and thus...nothing useful to say.

The Knuckledragger 3rd Memorial Slow Forum Post

That's exactly what it means in Icelandic. -
That chassis is sure expensive but max 1k$ as they aren't doing one or two of them. As for the amp...the amount of suck on display is truly astounding. Also the sheer lack of proper engineering...
