  1. Nope...didn't even know about them... Can you send me a link?
  2. There could maybe be some small improvements here and there but the over all nature of this amp would be classified as "tricky". Super high voltage plus the PSU being an integral part of the output stage will always make it so. I did study ways of making the amp safe to use for anybody but in the end it just wasn't worth it.
  3. That one is wholly incompatible with electrostatic use.
  4. That is the easiest problem in the world to solve so yeah... I doubt that has caused any delays. The combo of D/S gap plus the bias sets the efficiency. The drive voltages naturally matter and so does the tension but D/S and bias matter the most. From what I've heard, the issue is creating drivers which are actually stable. Nothing more than rumors on that but yeah...might be some truth to that.
  5. I never use thermistors and usually use 3.15AT fuses in all my amps. 2AT is fine for the KGSSHV at 230V. For a 300VA transformer you need at least 4A.
  6. Yeah the 57 design was much better from this standpoint. Nothing to delam and if you keep the input voltage in check, they won't arc. Many of the modern rebuilders use far better materials than Quad did (and still do) use so with a fully rebuilt set of panels this is less of an issue.
  7. I heard that DR used EMT as well and some ended up here. Never seen one though and the price... eek!!! Yup, they had quite a few ESL57's which were then all "rescued" by the engineers when they upgraded. With QuadII's or 303 amps they probably worked great for years and years. My set is from 1968 and still on the original panels (refreshed electronics though) so it certainly can be done.
  8. Now you need a DR one as well... The Swedes did have nice tastes back in the day with ESL57's as monitors and stuff like that.
  9. Standard setup is to connect pin 3 to pin 1. On my amps everything is grounded together so that way works perfectly. The 252S works perfectly for them but they do scale up nicely. Used 313 or something like that?
  10. It might be a bit anti climatic as I won't be doing a whole lot to it. Bend the arcs to suit my head and perhaps replace the foam inside the pads to the foam Kerry made.
  11. Gotta love the magic smoke...
  12. The 007's really need a kick up the backside to perform. I just got some 007BL's yesterday and they appear to be completely stock so it will be fun to modify them. Stock they sound just a bit dull to be honest. The bass has the slight overhang to it and the soundstage is a bit too big. Treble needs a slight kick up the pants but it can all be fixed with the arcs. Feels a bit like 2002 to me... when I was messing with the Mk1's for the first time.
  13. Nahhh...I'm a pretty bad baker but he's pretty clearly very bothered how little I think of him. Must be fun to have such thin skin... Yeah it will be interesting to see what they come up with but I'm not very hopeful as the recent stuff has all been pretty poor. They are back on the brightness train and a lot of people don't like it.
  14. There was some talk about a 007Mk3 (aka we are screwed with the naming) but who knows what they are working on.
  15. Hehe I like to piss people off. Means I'm doing something right...
  16. Yeah the transdyn is an utter BS product but perfect for the true believers. Get something that you have no idea about but is more expensive and thus...better. The amps are just chip amps driving transformers so yeah...pretty bloody bad. I haven't checked on HF in a while...anything interesting?
  17. I mean the old Jecklin was just a bent piece of plastic attached to some Jantzen clone drivers but the new one looks to be utter shit. Just look at those "amps" and the "transdyn" or what ever that shit is called. Hell even the old SRPP amp Ergo did is better than that shit and it holds the grand title of one of the worst amps ever designed.
  18. Do let us know if they will sell you the bloody cable as...well...they are very stingy with 009 parts.
  19. Ahhh the Jecklin QA... we really need to take one of those apart. Some fucktard on HF is talking them up now but nobody is listening...
  20. That's pure win right there.
  21. Yeah...can't believe that was almost 10 years ago but I truly don't see how Fang could have moved from that steaming pile of shit to a 50K$ and for it not to be a steaming pile of shit as well...just much more expensive. I do feel kinda bad now that I turned down a slightly broken Jade for the price of shipping as it would be nice to have one in the museum, the sheer level of shit just has to be preserved I mean there are plenty of headphones I don't like but for most it is a voicing issue or they fall flat in some crucial area. With the Jade it was just so shockingly bad all around. I mean I can't stand the Stax SR-507 but they do a lot of things right...the Jade just fails... Fucked treble and bass, fucked midrange and fucked soundstage with the worst build quality ever. The King Sound units are close behind but at least they are pretty cheap, at least the KS-H1.
  22. But..but..it's so much to fun to watch a train wreck like this. Fang is like a small spoiled child that goes completely over the top if things don't go exactly as he wants. I think we need to buy some of his products just to rip them apart and piss him off.
  23. Any KGSSHV will do just fine.
  24. Indeed, this whole "we only care about the performance...honest" BS...nobody buys that. Fang is a bit like the car company's here, talking about all the issues with the previous model just because they have a new one out. "Sure...this was perfect last week but now it is shit!!" Edit: Just browsed through the thread... and fuck Fang is nuts!! People don't lavish his newest piece of shit with praise so he is to be executed? Ehhh ok... what!!??!!??
  25. I was reading some of their PR bullshit and the cable section was interesting. First of all...it has a loop going through it so if the cable is unplugged then the amp will shut off. Seems to be 4 wires going to each cup and they do mention that: Interesting... Well not but why put ground anywhere in an electrostatic system.
