  1. Yes it does. Check the fuses.
  2. That was back in the day...now not so much. They are responsible for the whole watt per dollar bullshit which nobody wins in. I call it the rise of Class B...
  3. Even I don't stoop that low... One thing I'm interested in is a new DAC since I just sold the MSB. Sure as hell not going to waste money on the Yggdrasil...
  4. Some seller on ebay at some point. No idea when...I just buy random crap when I see it.
  5. Sony were nuts with all kinds of fringe pseudo science shit. Semi-conductive stator frames, odd cable dielectric, pentagonal diaphragms and crap like that. The ECR-600 I had was 100% push pull though, it was just electret with super high ratio for some unknown reason. As for a discussion between arnaud, Jazz and astroglide.. wouldn't see that one as the latter two fucktards are firmly on my ignore list. Reflections are far more likely from the headphone structure as the D/S gap is so small that there can't be any meaningful reflections.
  6. Indeed, this "front stator reflection" crap comes from people who don't know anything about the subject or are trying to sell people luke warm single ended shit.
  7. Floating would work but I've never had any issues with AC hum on this. YMMV though.
  8. Take pics of the transformer primaries and we can see if this one can be converted. Some can, some can't. As for the balanced input, just copy what is already on the board. From memory there might be spots on the PCB for this as some versions had them. Also from memory these were a series resistors on the input (2K?), a cap to ground and a shunt resistor as well (probably 500K).
  9. Yeah and I have some major reservations about the amp they are using. Any claims of real current delivery have to be treated with skepticism as there are no heat-sinks...
  10. The EL34 heaters are floating at -400V so it would be pretty tricky to even do that at DC.
  11. Yeah, it was a lot of effort to just try and tame a really, really unruly driver. Better spend that on dynamic headphones rather than lock it into a system like this.
  12. I've never seen a fake 7 pin package and it would be pretty costly to do. The fets are just relabeled BJT's which would probably make for excellent input devices anyway...
  13. I used the 1200V Mundorf Supreme caps because they look pretty...
  14. No, that would be something Cavalli would try...i.e. rather stupid and sound like shit.
  15. Round two of my DIY 'stats. Again using SR-X driver shells but now with my own bias rings (laser cut aluminum) and 1.4um film. This is more of a test bed for different glue and coating ideas but I have to say it sounds bloody awesome. I haven't received a large shipment of custom earpads so these are just using what I had sitting here. Alternating between some cheapo Fostex TH900 clones off ebay and A-T leather units. The sound changes a bit with the different earpads but not by a great deal. I did try some old SR-007 pads and I didn't like them at all. The thin, non-angled, A-T pads are excellent with this setup. The sound is very lively, energetic and punchy. I'm also narrowing down on the kind of soundstage I like, small but very precise. Now the small drivers will never beat the larger ones in terms of bass output but the super stretched 1.4um film is pretty impressive here. I don't find them bass anemic at all even though they clearly roll of earlier than the 007's. Next steps are more tests and I'm finishing up some new driver designs. Not the cheapest option but I'm going to try to make as many prototypes as I can so I can test back and forth easily. Guess I'll need some more storage space for the headphones then... In other news, I was looking for some earpads earlier and came across the Mr. Speakers Electrostatic pads.... now what the fuck are they smoking? Huge internal area for an electrostatic? This is the same amateur hour as King Sound.
  16. Better CCS, batteries work now and it is a shit ton less parts. Also far less noisy which is a large problem with the T2.
  17. It's been a long while since we did the simplified and improved T2 but it won't sound like the real deal. Better yes, but not the same.
  18. There are a lot of crap dacs out there but something like the Denafrips and Soekris are excellent. Made me retire the MSB...
  19. Yup, we can do that. I'll get it all in a more permanent place though before we post links.
  20. Given Kevin's retirement, we had to move the files so I put them here temporarily. I might move them again soon though....
  21. I have no idea.
  22. When you say it, that looks like a steel Modushop chassis with a new top plate and wooden side panels. Cheapest possible crap then... The perf boards are just retarded. I mean why would you do that, there is no good way to mount the tube sockets compared to a proper pcb with large slots to securely mount them. Ohhh and a RK27 volume control in a 12000€ amp? Are you fucking kidding me?
  23. Yeah and I like my quote above in Russian...
  24. I don't think there is anything slow about it...
  25. Jötunheimar is the "world of the Jötuns" aka the gods.
