  1. Ahh yes, the old acetate failure... must have been the same problem as with the 12.6V transformer used in the Extreme's...
  2. Hangikjöt is delicious but I don't touch any of the other shit. My GF does like svið which is kinda revolting...
  3. Aluminum or some alloy of it as it is anodized. Since this was bumped, these have been placed in the 'stat storage and I don't see any need to use them. They are ok but need a lot of work until they are finished. They do remind me a lot of the insanity of the old HE Audio garbage, thinking that super high resistance on the diaphragms would somehow make them not noisy from the lack of dust covers or using a coating that absorbs moisture is somehow a good idea. It's such fun to be listening and having to take the phones off your head after 20 minutes so the built up moisture can dissipate and the diaphragms can be charged up again. Such design... I also love the fucktard on HF claiming the Orpheus clones they have are some sort of upgraded model from these. First off...I got them not two months ago and second...you can just pick which version you like. The builder claims these are the more accurate ones so let's just go with that. I actually specified dust covers but they clearly impact the SQ... Next up will be the Ether 'stats which might be problematic with a 0.58mm DS gap.
  4. Most of the parts in the T1's can be found but yeah, anybody with any sense would never mod these for other people. The PCB's aren't of good quality and easy enough to damage something beyond repair. For us it is just fun to muck around with this stuff... I for one find it to be cathartic to fix some of the older stuff even if it can try to kill you from time to time. Looks at the naughty SRA-3S in the corner...
  5. Having a T1S sitting idle here I decided to have some fun with it. Drew up a small CCS board, a scrap heatsink and voila...an improved amp is born. Bias supply fixed, all caps replaced and output resistors fitted. I ran it a bit hotter than stock so I had to modify the tail resistor on the output cathodes down to 1.5K but that is easy.
  6. Don't go dragging logic into this!! These are musical instruments!!!!!
  7. The single tube seems to be similar BS as the Woo WES phase splitter. High noise and barely works. Those Stax emblems look like they were pulled off headphone stands...
  8. Some more Italian fuckery... http://www.giancarlomassa.altervista.org/ This is so bad that it isn't even funny. Love the PSU in the transformer box...
  9. Be sure to vote for her on that Facebook page. She managed to get out so all is good.
  10. I do this as a public service...
  11. Look at the input wiring, the XLR's go to the attenuator but the RCA's (I assume they are RCA's on the right) go directly to the middle tube. So this is a pretty horrible clusterfuck of an amp... Edit: Yup, those are RCA's on the right: http://www.megahertzaudio.it/guerra.htm
  12. https://www.facebook.com/sunneva.fjolnisdottir?hc_ref=ARSqUax8csAHklbCv--LjcFtea42J-r1jRpXQTM_HDBEdtF5ZmzM5s9HtEeSojICaXk
  13. Blonde pole fitness instructor...
  14. Yeah, funny that the pics don't match at all. Also, why 6 triodes to drive the output tubes balanced? You can do it with 8 but 6? I very much doubt it... Well unless the middle tube is a phase splitter and it's just a two section amp?
  15. I was just reading HF and came across this "gem". It's not an amp...it's a "musical instrument"!! Yeah...what the fuck is it with Italian amps being garbage? Rudistor and now Megahertz... Bask in the glory of this hand built masterpiece: As soon as I saw this it was eerily familiar... So back in 1968 Stax released two schematics, the SRX and a simpler two tube design with grounded cathodes. Back in 2013 I released a schematic of a balanced take of that amp and built one unit. It was ok for a cheapo amp but yeah...nothing that sets the world on fire. Here is the schematic: Ok so let's look into this. Two 9 pin tubes so ECC83 input (pretty much has to be for enough gain) and any of the high power dual triode noval tubes. 6CG7 would work... So we clearly have a resistor loaded output stage with a grounded cathode and output caps (the big ones) and high value resistors after the cap to ground. The input is clearly balanced and not many versions of that possible with interstage caps. Electrolytic cathode bypass caps for higher gain and those silver things might be the input caps. Sure as shit there are four of them... Now for the PSU and just the parts quality... this sure as shit doesn't look regulated or filled with quality parts at all. I guess that and the mediocre circuitry makes this worth 1/2 of what Woo ask for the WES and a "musical instrument".
  16. Excellent.
  17. My GF's friend is in Miami now and was totally oblivious about what is going on. She's more worried about a pageant she was supposed to be attending on a cruise ship () and we've been trying to make her understand what is heading her way. On top of that, her hotel is on the beach...
  18. Sören being a fucktard...glad to see nothing changes when I take a week off in Niagara. So pathetic... As for the review, if anybody thinks that I had anything to say about any of it... you have clearly never talked to Bob or followed any of his work. He told me he would write what he wanted and I got zero say in it, which is exactly what I wanted. This wasn't even supposed to be a review, he just asked me if he could borrow a Carbon to give the 007's an equal platform against the dynamic competition. I was happy to oblige, sent him my personal Carbon and also offered him a Pure Bipolar to try out, to create an even more even playing field. Both sets being driven balanced with amps that share the same design ideas. This was back in February or March and it was only after he'd heard that this grew into a kind of review. I knew he liked them as he bought the Pure Bipolar and will probably buy the Carbon as well but I didn't have any idea what he would write. Hell I didn't even know when it was posted, I only heard about it when my inbox lit up. Now normally I would never even entertain the idea of having reviews as pretty much all are garbage, done by people with the integrity of used care salesmen/realtors and are just verbal diarrhea. Just look at the garbage Jude is posting and he's far from the worst. You may disagree with Bob's findings all you want but he sure as shit is more entitled to his opinion that most. He did expose Focal and I know from experience that it isn't easy to hold up an opinion that goes against the "norm", no matter how wrong the "norm" may be. I have fond memories of the death threats I got from some unstable people after I said the HE90's were far from the best. I can also imagine how happy Focal were about all of this...
  19. Don't remember...
  20. Yeah, some 600V teflon tubing would be a good idea there.
  21. So this would be Stax Lambda's then? It is some petroleum based glue and it is really nasty. Better than the current shit though which just doesn't work... To remove it I use a basic adhesive removal liquid and not a lot of it. Then just pick some nice 3M double sided adhesive.
  22. Truly what the SR-009's need, 8dB down at 20khz will take care of that nasty treble harshness and any HF performance altogether...
  23. Wow thanks for the info as that puts this into a whole other light. So this is basically an Egmont or what Schiit deemed too bad an amp for 1k$... Here is the datasheet for the tube: http://www.nj7p.info/Tubes/PDFs/Frank/113-Soviet/6S3PE.pdf So we have only four triodes per side so it has to be this: About as simple as you can get and to charge people 5kUKP for this is just robbery. Funny enough, I made my own version of what I thought the amp was in the same form factor. Just sent the PCB's off to be made yesterday so I'll have something built soon... Only 39mm tall with a bone stock SRX input based on the 6N2P (though any compatible tube will plug in there) and 6N6Pi output with a simple 10M90 CCS. Only two coupling caps but with this novel idea of feedback...
  24. True HC style then we'd be talking about an Accuphase E-600...
  25. Welcome to the glorious world of high voltage.
