  1. Happy holidays!! We start at 6pm on the 24th so now I've eaten way too much...
  2. That very odd... Now the platinum vaporized is just BS, you need high resistance here which I've confirmed on the HE90 as that was supposed to be gold coated... Now they could have moved away from mylar and onto something else which has less mass at 2.4um...
  3. So true... Back on topic, has anybody seen Sennheiser claim the diaphragm thickness in the HE-1? Mr. Speakers is claiming his Fuce is the same thickness which I frankly highly doubt...
  4. Indeed, it's the HF way of doing things. If it is popular it must be good...if some idiot is willing to pay for it then it must be awesome!!
  5. Yup, that will kill them real quick. Ambient light is not really an issue.
  6. Just remove the cap and replace the resistor.
  7. The SRD units predate the output resistors by about two decades. You could add them but I wouldn't bother. Do check the bias supply and see if there is a cap after the ballast resistor. If so...remove it.
  8. The headphones could be faulty but personally I'd check out the WEE first. They aren't exactly known to be reliable or well made...or good for the headphones for that matter.
  9. Indeed, claims about dust accumulation on stators means he doesn't know a whole lot about this...
  10. I agree and I will buy one just to rip it apart...
  11. Well this is now the VOCE (what a stupid name) and here are the specs stolen from HF... So a few notes...2.4um diaphragms?? Is this 1968 with this new fangled thickness? Seriously what the fuck are they smoking. Now I'm the last person to scream "thinner is better" but this thickness in a driver this big just screams for trouble and HF loss. Also, what's up with the box? I take it the dust covers are seriously messed up to require this? We'll see but this is not making me hopeful. Then we have that stupid plug on the headphones...my only reaction from day 1 was WHY?? So you can't buy a Fischer plug that actually works and isn't the size of a DB25? This is so retarded... Ohhh yeah and "under 3k$ and definitely not 2999$"... Those are words to live by!!
  12. Sure but with the 5.1K output resistors the current needed to do this amount of damage simply isn't possible.
  13. No idea and I can't remember where I found that pic. None of the modern Stax amps or our designs can do this as they are heavily current limited into the drivers.
  14. Will do but somebody posted this pic... What the fuck happened here I have no idea...
  15. Yup, low risk of damage but I would buy the roughly 1$ in parts and fix this.
  16. Let's just say not so fucking harsh and hard sounding.
  17. Ehhh what the fuck is wrong with Woo Audio? So this is not up to spec but it is at least closer than many of the latter amp. So this is voltage divider off the main B+ which should be 600V. It's 121K into a 3M6 shunt which gives us 580V. That's ok but then they put a 3M6 ballast resistor... It should be 4M7 so this is close but not correct. I would change it and to a proper high voltage rated resistor too but this is close enough in value to not hurt the phones. On the newer amps I've seen it as low as a few hundred K if there is even a ballast resistor at all...
  18. Yeah, they might even be doing this just to fuck with us. On top of this...the SR-007A is now available in black color... I might pickup a new set in the new year to try out the current crop just to make sure they haven't changed them yet again. That and the new SR-009 project will be thrown into full force. Basically...I'm going to make new diaphragms for the 009's to change how they sound i.e. how they should have sounded in the first fucking place.
  19. This is an older amp so it should be ok. I need close up pics of where the red wire from the headphone socket is connected to be sure. I can't read the resistors from this angle.
  20. The bottom should do it. You might want to check the top covers as well as they have been known to use some pretty crappy PSU caps in these...
  21. Yeah, this isn't a laboratory grade voltage standard either. If it were then everything would be suspect, how the board was constructed, internal stresses, are the solder joints contaminated and it goes on and on...
  22. Certainly. You need to remove at least the bottom panel so we can see how it is built. Maybe the top covers for each of the modules there but I don't think it would be necessary.
  23. I've ordered some of them but no time to test as of yet...
  24. This is a loaded question...with all things being equal and same quality balanced and singled ended outputs on the same dac the balanced is superior. This is almost never the case so a case by case basis really...
