The Headcase Stax thread
The SET wasn't supposed to be there. My bad! The input stage is single ended and all triode but it could use some work.

The pictures are in the HF photo gallery. I'll try to find one and upload it here.

An OTL amp will always sound better then running through one or even two transformers and for most amps you can use something like the Mundorf Silver-Oil caps with their 900vAC rating and they are very good caps indeed. I've always been meaning to buy some Chinese kit amp and fit it with a Stax output and some other features. I have one in mind but time is always a problem and so this remains untested in the long term. A simple switch on the front panel that would disconnect both legs of the output transformers while the Stax socket is active should create a good all rounder as you would have a p-p DHT SET for some speaker use.

Producing a split L&R level control with the ELMA switches isn't possible AFAIK but it could be possible with some other switches. Shalco maybe? The KGBH sure is pretty but it really needs a quad RK50 pot...

November NYC meet impressions
We need pics! These have to be stellar headphones when you can get the SR-007A for 1650$ shipped in January.

There is only one plus to the separate L and R volume controls and that is balance control. Steppers are shit at that anyways so just give me a quad pot and I'll be happy.

I really do like my silver BH. Understated and functional but then again I'm a devote follower of the simple copper chassis approach.

The 845 needs more then 900v to start to sound good so 1kv would be the target.

You need output caps to eliminate all DC off the stators and resistors to restrict the current flow.

I might. I really like to hear what the SR-007 sounds like with some really big tubes pushing them.

I would go out and try some nice, revealing cables. They do not have to be silver as they could be gold, copper, amorphous metal but aim for small conductors and good connectors. No fancy RF! canceling geometry as a straight wire works best. This mirrors my findings completely. Putting a He90 in a SR-007 matched system will only end badly and vice versa. The He60 comes closer to bridge the gap along with the SR-Omega.

The Headcase Stax thread
I was watching it before I logged onto head-case yesterday. I've been doing this for far too long to miss something like this... As it turns out the seller is a Stax fan as is saving up for some Omegas. I was only too happy to help.

Recommendations for low power SET amps for Avantgarde Duos
This could be turned into a Stax amp as well. Could be pretty nice indeed

When do you consider an amp "high end"
I enjoy music out of cheap computer speakers but the chase of high fidelity is about getting closer to the music and not listening to some pre set parameters. The high end is certainly obtainable but it's never cheap and those that believe that you can get it cheaply are kidding them selfs. You can come close but the devil is in the details and they cost a fortune to reveal. If you can't handle that buy a RSA amp, some FOTM headphones and leave us alone.

He would like a whole forum dedicated to them but I guess the single thread will do...

Ahh so this amp is really balanced but uses input transformers. I knew Craig was working on an amp a few months back that was SE but used transformer on the output to make it differential.

Looking for a Watch...
Breitling is in no way, shape or form better then Rolex and Rolex is now the Bose or B&O of the watch world. A Rolex does hold its value though. If you want something good and cheap get a Tag Heuer or if you want the best, get a Patek.

When do you consider an amp "high end"
Why can't he have a bunch of amps at different price levels? I do and I have more electrostatic adapters then I can count. The HA-02 is pretty far from being high end though it is a cute little amp like all the Yamamoto's are.

Haven't seen an R10 scam on eBay in awhile...
Speaking of scams the Stax SR-Omega scam is back. I love this part while the last picture clearly says the serial number no.249 and those are owned by Morphschi.

I believe it is a single ended amp using a transformer on the output with a center tapped secondary to make it differential.
