  1. Very, very cool! Shame about the 550v HV limit...
  2. That's the same spec as the DAC64 though Stereophile measured it a 3.1v/6.2v. This doesn't account for the difference in volume level...
  3. You can certainly fall a long, long ways but trick to to not be a gullible idiot. Do the research and you will end up with a great system no matter the price level. Just don't listen to anything you can't afford as that will only mean trouble...
  4. Looks like you had a great time. Try to clean the the bed with soap and water but if it doesn't work just say you ate something bad or blame one of your friends. The only way to get rid of the hangover is time but remember next time to not fall asleep right away when you get home but to eat something and drink a few glasses of water. Works wonders as long as you didn't do something stupid like drinking bear, red wine and gin the same evening.
  5. Yep you're right. My bad... Still I don't get this teflon nonsense with line level signals. Teflon is a great insulator at 1kV/mil for HV but so is foam rubber and why hasn't somebody tried to make something out of that... Damn that must have sucked.
  6. APL doesn't do mods to the P-05/D-05 that I'm aware of but if he decides to go for a P-01 and two D-01's he can have them modded...
  7. This is also something I thought about being stuck on a rock in the middle of the Atlantic but my experience is that you get much better service from the smaller manufacturers as well as much better products on the whole. It might take some time but who cares, I've got a much better product for a lower price then anything sold at a dealer.
  8. When Stereophile measured the DAC64 it had a 3.1/6.2v output voltage and I can't find any for the D-05. Can look in the owners manual under specs?
  9. Ehhh it looks like I missed this one. The impedance is in the kOhms but the output impedance should be much lower. The board just contains current limiting resistors while the transformers step up the voltage and impedance. Since the voltage step up ratio is 25 then the impedance stepup is 252 or 625 so a 8 ohm input is 5kohm at the output. I'm waiting for the A version to reach the much more experienced Stax nuts in Japan but first impressions are that the new phones are an upgrade but a small one. I wasn't expecting much else though as they were just fixing the few problems that had arisen over the 9 year life of the Mk1.
  10. Ehhh how the hell can it be unfluorinated since the most common teflon is Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and all forms of teflon are built around flour molecules. The big deal is to be rid of the teflon all together but if it doesn't contain flour it isn't teflon. With the 6N and cryo bullshit they are just luring people in that think bigger is better. Why not use a 4N wire and have longer grain so you don't need to cryo in the first place. That's the feedback I've got from people who's ears I trust. Extremely warm, mushy sound but some people do like that or rather think they do.
  11. Hmmmm that good hahh? I think I need to get me some...
  12. ...and there is no reason for the price. It's just stranded copper
  13. That's what I was planning to do, running every tube off its own PSU. The cost isn't really an issue here but I'd like to use DHT's that are relatively cheap which the 845's aren't NOS. With my headphone collection almost complete it's time to build an amp to drive them all.
  14. Ahhh since its in US$ you get payed by the seller to be rid of them...
  15. The 807's aren't cheap, they're dirt cheap. I bought them to build a cheap P-P speaker amp that could serve as a Stax amp but now I'm tempted to test them in the BH circuit... \
  16. Wuss... I like the Furutech products a lot but since I'm going SE only in the future WBT Silvers it is.
  17. If you want the best and are willing to pay for it look here. They can make the connectors with silver pins if you have the cash.
  18. Thanks for the info. Have you been buying some RK50's?
  19. I'm always ambiguous... The EL34 is far from being the best pentode out there but a Mullard XF2 is a force to be reckoned with. Expensive as hell so I'm all for a cheaper type that sounds as good so please do some testing... since I can't be bothered to butcher my BH. Btw. Kevin have you finished the 845 based amp circuit yet. I'd really like to see it when you do.
  20. You certainly could alter the circuit a bit and install different tubes but none of them sound as good as the EL34. Since we are on the subject of pentodes I just bought a quad of JAN 807's and I'm going to see if I can't throw something together.
  21. That's just too cruel to say...
  22. If it is French then I'm going the other way... ....
  23. They are both loud acoustically and contaminate electricity in a very bad way. That has to change before they can start to gain some headway against the silver disk. It could be possible to use galvanic isolation and create a clean room inside the computer before the signal is lifted out and have the computer on a different PSU...
