The Headcase Stax thread
Thanks for clearing that up. I do hope they come up with something new, hell I'll settle for another take on the SRX circuit but built to the standard of the rest of the Woo gear. Now if they were to use something new like GU50's for output duty I'd buy one on the spot.

The Headcase Stax thread
It will be fun to see what they come up with. I hope they use some cheaper tubes and at least direct couple some of the stages. If it's just a GES with a differential input as has often been talked about then that will only mean more ECC83's (rather expensive for the good stuff) and even more caps in the signal path.

Another Stax Omega 2 setup
I've been blamed for far worse things then this so bring it on.

Ok, good point. You shouldn't let the music suffer though...

That could be the reason as the amp might be drawing too much power. I hope that Kevin will chime in and help as I have a lot of 0A2's and 6SA's that will be perfect for this amp.

Another Stax Omega 2 setup
A good example can be had from Japan for less then 1200$ with the current Y!JP going rate as a reference. The SRD-7 will still show you just how good the SR-007 is and I'll try to find some cheap transformers which can drive the SR-007. The old albums sound great so go out and buy the whole catalog and relive the glory days...

Another Stax Omega 2 setup
There is nothing to hate my friend... just sell one of those K1000 and buy a used SR-007. C'mon you know you want to... be like us, be like us, be like us.... Btw. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the DoD DVD-A. It was just set for 5.1 in some hidden menu and now it's fucking brilliant!!!!

Make sure that he's using enough heater supplies and then swap in some NE-2's or 0A2's to test. Also what PSU is being used?

Another Stax Omega 2 setup
Congrats!!! Stax sure can rock and it gets even better with the BH. I'm listening to the Dance of Death DVD-A and the sound is amazing but the mastering is slightly "off".

Stax Omega SR-007 Mk2
Sky's the limit here with electrostatic transformers from Sowter running at about 500$ for the pair but I'd really like to try the cheapest Hammond output transformer (less then 50$ each) and wire it up backwards to see how it behaves. There is always the Illusion unit but it's rather expensive and no thorough comparisons have been posted. All the T1 amps share the same amp circuit (exact same PCB) but all the extra circuitry in the T1S and T1W does exact a small toll on the sound but it's nothing to worry about as different tube types matter a whole lot more. First of all, electrostatic elements act as capacitors so all rules for dynamics (resistive elements) go out of the window. Since they are big capacitors the impedance plot is like a ragged bell curve with the HF and LF tougher loads then the midrange. All electrostatics need voltage swing to make any sound but as the impedance drops in the treble and bass the elements draw more current to maintain the voltage swing. It's not a whole lot of current but at 300VAC it really adds up and most amps simply can't deliver it making the bass seem boomy and the treble rolled off and dark.

Stax Omega SR-007 Mk2
The watt rating of the SRD-7 is utterly meaningless here. We are dealing with voltage swing and when that doesn't cut it, current delivery. The simple fact of the matter is that the SRD-7's were never designed to deal with the load presented by any one of the Omega series so while they can provide the necessary voltage swing, the current is lacking due to the small transformers. The newer model is more compatible with lesser drivers but it's no night and day difference. They are basically more "impressive" in those areas which the Mk1 was lacking with lesser amplification so they seem better.

Stax Omega SR-007 Mk2
I don't recommend the SRD-7's for use with the SR-007 as the transformers simply can't deliver enough juice for the phones so they will sound a bit dark and rolled off in the treble with a rather woolly bass response.

Drew's price is very good as the SR-007A is about 1750$ shipped from Japan so if the warranty is important he's still competitive especially if you want the black model. It's hard to gauge the price on the T1w as there aren't that many changing hands but it should be in line with the T1/T1S prices which is 800$+ for one in good condition.

transformer/autoformer-based volume control?

Earthquake in southern Iceland/Spritzer: Are you safe?
I have no idea really. Thanks for the kind offer but they are quite safe up here for the time being. Sand is great for foundations such as in power supplies and current sources.

Best match for Stax SR-003
The SR-003 is silly good at some things with the BH driving it.

Earthquake in southern Iceland/Spritzer: Are you safe?
I dunno... Her summer house is pretty close to the epicenter but there is a lot of fault lines in the area so all quakes dissipate quickly.

Woah! What's up with the quick thread locks lately?
I think that what he wants but is simply too shy to ask.

Earthquake in southern Iceland/Spritzer: Are you safe?
That's Bob Anderson. Everything needs to be secured while at see but there is no way in hell that my rack is ever going to move. It's an old Target model with a steel frame filled to the brim with metal particles and with about 80kg of gear sitting in it.

Earthquake in southern Iceland/Spritzer: Are you safe?
Thanks guys. The gear is all secure an the only thing that could have suffered any damage was the SR-? which I jumped out of bed to secure. It's all about the right priorities... I just watched the news and it seems that it was two shocks in one so a large aftershock isn't all that likely but all precautions are being taken.

Earthquake in southern Iceland/Spritzer: Are you safe?
Thanks for the kind words guys. The damn thing woke me up from my midday nap and that is saying a lot as I live on the western most tip of Reykjavik (actually a separate town) and the house is built on a buffer of sand. Everybody is fine and no major damage has been reported though some bridges and houses have been closed for the time being. My father is going to go and check up on our summerhouse which is about 15km from the epicenter but it's built like a vault so it should be fine.
