  1. Ok cool but this does bring up one thing, is the capacitance spec enough info to go on? The 4070 and a SR-404 are identical in this regard but the amp load isn't even close, same with the SR-Lambda and SR-Sigma. The SR-303 is 120pf yet the SR-Ω is 110pf and the SR-007 Mk2 is 94pf and we both know that the load is very different. The Blue Hawaii doesn't break a sweat driving any of them but all amps aren't the BH...
  2. My guess is that both sides of the family would have wanted the crazy dictator dead but lets drop this nonsense and continue to watch Mikhail sink even lower then before.
  3. I've had a few of those and they are very nice indeed (I'd like to find a Mk1 though... ) and will give you a taste of the vintage Stax sound. The Mk3 is better all round (the headband is also less fragile) but I've never liked them as much as the Mk2. The housing is plastic like all of the SR-X's though the drivers are mounted to an aluminum "cup" which sits on the plastic frame. The drivers are very similar to the SR-3 units but I don't remember if they are identical. \ They will fit (slightly shorter) but since the Sigma pads are completely flat they will alter the sound as much of the Lambdas sound staging ability is down to the pads. The Sigma pads available are identical to the old stuff and the only pads they have "tampered" with are the SR-Ω units as well as dropped some. You'll get a PM now for a place that has cheap-ish Stax pads...
  4. It's also nice to know that the Square Wave has breakthrough technology in the form of push-pull. Did I step into a time machine or something? Hitler wire FTW!!! One you think that suck-it-alo would sell such a marvelous thing...
  5. What Marc said but to put things into context a Lambda is somewhere around 110pf. It's also tough to tell how the drivers impedance plot is as they might drop by quite a bit in the bass and treble requiring wast amounts (relatively) of current from the amp. I was going to try them from the BH but got fed up with the lack of comfort...
  6. Somehow I don't see that tutorial as a future project... The pads are easy enough to get back on with some patience and some tape really helps to secure the starting point. I've been "suffering" with only a few Stax amps here and I feel for you. I need that BHSE soon or to get off my ass and get the DIY one up and running with the massive PSU...
  7. One never knows with Gary... That's the rub. There are plenty of 1:25 candidates out there such as push-pull output transformers wired up backwards and even power trafos but none have been tested as of yet. You could go with something very nice such as Sowter or Plitron which are designed for ESL duty but the price...
  8. The SRM-252 is the last in line of amps ranging back to the to the early 90's SRM-X so the SRM-001 could have been built on one of the predecessors.
  9. That is very true most of the time and there is nothing wrong with using a preexisting design and do your own spin on it by adding a nice PSU and CCS or something like that. Claiming it was all patent pending and world best just adds insult to injury. That DAC is just an epic and I'm certain that it cost him a lot less then 50$ if he bought a few in one go.
  10. The ES-1/2 is a Stax design from the 60's which he just swapped out the tubes and fitted a different PSU. The same goes for at least some of the dynamic amps but I haven't been following them. At least one of them though is identical to a Woo Audio unit so both are using the same 3rd party circuit.
  11. Aren't all the SP amps "borrowed"?
  12. You also have the added benefit of not being a fucktard like markl... When are you going to perform my mods on the SR-007 Mk2...? That does remind me to update the thread with my latest ramblings...
  13. There is an overload protection on the PCB for the transformers (but it should be bypassed anyway for better SQ) but other then that the transformers are on their own. Fitting larger units in the SRD-7 box isn't likely to work out so the best way would be to build a new bias supply and go from there. It's easy to build point to point but there is always the option that somebody draws up a PCB...
  14. Could I send you some of my phones for "treatment"? Do you think it would be possible to re-run in my 40+ year old SR-1...?
  15. Those poor miserable headphones...
  16. A normal bias SRD-7 can be had for less then 100$ but the SRD-7 Pro and Mk2 units fetch closer to 300$.
  17. Most of the B22's use an off the shelf transformer and they almost always have a dual primary i.e. two 117v windings which are parallel connected for US voltage but can be connected in series for 230v. That's exactly what I did with mine. The B22 sounds great but it is also versatile and can drive speakers and Stax transformers with ease.
  18. It isn't cheap that's for sure but one can use a simpler bias supply and skip one Lundahl unit there. I would also consider Sowter transformers which are designed for ESL duty but they aren't cheap either. If you are only going to use Lambdas and not one of the Omega or Sigma range then a standard SRD-7 will be more then enough and you can always modify it with better wiring directly to the windings.
  19. I haven't tried the Egmont and will hopefully never touch one built by Rudi. I do have the schematic and I'm building one with a far better PSU then the crap Rudi uses and not the cheapest possible parts. About the RPX-100... You have Casino access so go search for it there. It has quite possibly the worst PCB design seen in the last 25 years and those output capacitors aren't doing the crap circuitry any favors. Elna's aren't that expensive but it's clear that he just doesn't care to spend anything more then the bare minimum. If you like your amp then that's fine and don't let me stop you but you should compare it to something excellent like the B22 or a Dynahi. Now lets talk about something that doesn't involve people trying to rip you off...
  20. There is no fixed price on Jecklins and they can go for 100-350

This picture was included on a local Icelandic news site with the notice that Jerry Wexler has passed away
  22. I'm way too tired to go into all of this now but he's just selling the same crap over and over again in a new 30
  23. Post something of use or get the fuck out. Simple as that...
  24. Don''t even bring up that fucktard. Back when HF had some balls an idiot like that would have been banned for spamming everywhere but now... I never looked at that Rudistor monstrosity before but it's nice to see that Rudi has decided to add a second parallel connected 6SN7 to his crappy Egmont Signature and jack up the price by 2000
  25. I hope you've finally come to your senses and dropped all of this DIY nonsense and just got the best there is, a Rudistor Coriolan 2. I mean how can you go wrong with something as advanced...
