Take the signal off the output transformer primaries. The tubes output high voltage which is then stepped down so you should be able to tap into that and bypass those two transformers. It's one of those things I've always wanted to try out but shipping a 30kg amp is never cheap... Goes to check out cheap Chinese crap on ebay... You will also need a bias supply so something like the supplies found in the Gilmore amps would work when fed of the amps B+.

Very cool. I wish transformers were in plentiful supply up here...

Hmmm indeed! What are you planning, a GES or a some of the smaller Stax amps? ..and it's

Tuberoll and mod it!!! Edit: Isn't it a P-P EL34 amp? Hook up the Omegas directly to the tubes.

I've now lived with the latest mods for some two weeks and I think I've reached my goal of making these phones worthy of the Omega name. I did go back to the Mk2 springs but I bent them to about 110-115mm and I fitted Mk1 foam inside the Mk2 pads. The springs stick out a bit under the pads but the extra width was necessary do to the crappy pleather Stax used on the Mk2 outside flange which holds the pads in place. It's much looser then the leather in the Mk1 pads so the extra width of the springs clamps the pads in place and forces them to sit closer to the drivers. I also changed the angle of the center pin on the springs to make them stand out less so this works in tandem to force the pads to sit closer to the drivers. I also swapped the foam inside the Mk2 pads with foam from a fresh set of Mk1 pads to make them a bit softer. I didn't do this in isolation from the other mods to the springs so I'm not quite sure if this had any effect. I may reverse it later on but the effect should be very subtle if non-existent but this isn't verified. The end result is what I set out to do, accurate bass response with zero midbass hump and the midrange honk removed. They don't sound completely like the Mk1 though, the bass is a bit lighter on it's feet and the midrange more forward which makes them work a whole lot better on "lesser" amps like the SRM-1, T1 and 007t. I will reserve final judgment until I get to hear them on a Blue Hawaii again with the rest of my Omegas but as it stands right now I quite like them.

Feel free to post some impressions to get the thread back on track.

Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?

Guess it was far too much work to redesign the PCB with a lot of ventilation slots and a new chassis design... -
retarded necrophiliac? He is probably the biggest idiot on HF and that says quite a bit...

The M-L panels are terrible by design with thick film and more attention paid to how they look then how they will sound. Kings Audio is also supposed to be even worse with nobody at the company having a clue how to design ESL's...

Yeah, why listen to the damned thing? Sovkiller says that transformers are bad and this fucking thing has two per channel... that's double fail!!!

Each to own but Quad's are finicky beasts that were never engineered or built well enough to last to. Now sets from the factory today are way off and often need to be refurbished in a few years. I'm not sure about the German units but they should be much better made as they have done some mods to the original design. Also check out Sound-Lab for the ultimate in size and power if you can find a set local to you. Massive beasts to say the least and a shocking 12kVDC bias...
-
M-L's are trash these days but the Quad's should have given you an idea of what the technology can do if the speakers were in good condition. As a true planar head I put musicality in first place above all else and any Stax will deliver that in spades and urge you to listen to just one more song. They are brilliant at everything else but this is what truly sets them apart from the dynamics and why I will never go back to moving coils.

I hate it moar

I know and I educated you at the same time. See how much fun Stax is!!
-
Neat!!! If you want a hybrid amp then it has to drive either type through transformers (works either way, up or down) or have two amps in the same box like that SP amp.

If you want fireworks, then yes.

At least they are in the PSU and not the signal path... Most companies boast about zero electrolytics in the signal path for a reason. -
BUY A SR-007!!!!! You really like the LNS and the SR-007 is an even better version of that same sound signature. Epic fail!!!! I have some amps that you could borrow but all of my spare phones are spoken for.
-
There is zero noise in normal operation on my two sets but if you force the diaphragms they will squeal. The basic design of the SR-Ω isn't as airtight as the SR-007 (air can escape under the pads for instance) so squealing might be an indication of something bad or just normal. I don't really need a third set...
-
Ahhh epic failure on the part of online translators. The SR-Omega shouldn't fart though, at least nothing compared to the SR-007

I'm sold!! When can I expect shipment?? It goes without saying that is should be made out of solid unobtainium with platinum connectors and only sell for 15$... -
SR-Omega on Y!JP Looks like it is malfunctioning...

Mikhail says it is better... :'( -
Since these are planars then the housing will always have a huge impact on the load as well as the air around the driver. I guess it is time to hit the books on electrostatic theory to make sense of this. One point though, the SR-007 is an easy load compared to the rest of the phones on paper but it could be the air damping that makes them so demanding in real life. The drivers are small compared to the SR-Ω yet even harder to drive.

I'm up for some violence. Can I get with with an Enigma active shield or whatever that douchebag box is called?
