  1. Each 6528 needs 5A of heater current so 14A should be enough...
  2. If he's simply using the 8A transformer to supplement the filament winding on the Plitron then the 14A figure would make sense.
  3. Spiraled works very well and is dead easy to make.
  4. Allied Electronics part numbers 78-S6S is the socket 86-71-6S is the plug Been there done that... I wouldn't recommend it though as it sounds horrible. The Koss unit is the ultimate statement that voltage swing isn't everything.
  5. Sadly all impressions are lost after years of alcohol abuse...
  6. Sounds like I could use a pair up here. I could argue that they are in fact used for heating and get a discount on the electricity.
  7. Ahh the days of misspent youth watching UK tv on satellite...
  8. None that I know of
  9. Speaking of 6c33's... That's a mono amp
  10. Sucks is a pretty big understatement here... webbie64's set has been recabled by APS but an adapter is easy to make. The WPI connectors are back in stock at Allied so just order up a Koss extension cable and start soldering.
  11. Andy, those issues that Kevin linked to have been reported by other owners as well and are caused by the filament wiring. You far from the only one with "faulty tubes" according to Mikhail. Last I heard (last night my time) the amp will ship as expected.
  12. My 717 works well with some of my DIY silver cables. Get some fine silver wire in cotton...
  13. Can I be your Icelandic distributor? That review was by the epic waste of space Jonathan Scull so no wonder it was crap. The SR-Omega, ESP/950, HE60 and Orpheus reviews are all much better. I really should buy a scanner and upload all of this stuff... Edit. Holy crap I own the SR-Omega they reviewed!!!!!!! Too bad it's the one with the 007 drivers but I thought the S/N.133 sounded familiar...
  14. Milspec!!!!!
  15. OTL sure sounds better then transformer coupling when fed through some of those luxurious caps... Nice of Mikhail to save me from looking over the Hammond catalog for a filament transformer to add to the ES-1's. That 8A unit will do just fine...
  16. It can only take a few watts but since it needs mostly voltage you can use it with any amp. I'll PM you once I have it all here.
  17. No precautions that I know of are needed. You need a hex key to open it up though. Fanboy!!!! Btw. I may have a Stax setup to send you soon if you can use an adapter instead of an amp. It's an old Stax (1968) but one of my all time favorites as it defines musicality.
  18. One of the rules here is internal pix or ban... I would certainly take a look to see what it going on as that is a whole lot nicer then a smoking amp...
  19. He did start to use the chassis as a heatsink so that would cause it to run very hot.
  20. Then there is the volume control built into the APL...
  21. I'd take a small drop in fidelity (if any) on the Foobar side rather then loathing the amp.
  22. Don't get me started on the steppers... You can always add inline attenuators to drop the level and they are cheap-ish.
  23. The gain isn't the problem, more likely your source is too hot i.e. its output level is above the 2v(4v) spec. That can be fixed by attenuating the signal before it enters the amp. There was a thread on this a few months back...
  24. Basic rule of thumb with electrostatics... if they sound like crap, don't blame the transducers.
  25. The SR-003 is very sensitive...
