  1. My 717 works well with some of my DIY silver cables. Get some fine silver wire in cotton...
  2. Can I be your Icelandic distributor? That review was by the epic waste of space Jonathan Scull so no wonder it was crap. The SR-Omega, ESP/950, HE60 and Orpheus reviews are all much better. I really should buy a scanner and upload all of this stuff... Edit. Holy crap I own the SR-Omega they reviewed!!!!!!! Too bad it's the one with the 007 drivers but I thought the S/N.133 sounded familiar...
  3. Milspec!!!!!
  4. OTL sure sounds better then transformer coupling when fed through some of those luxurious caps... Nice of Mikhail to save me from looking over the Hammond catalog for a filament transformer to add to the ES-1's. That 8A unit will do just fine...
  5. It can only take a few watts but since it needs mostly voltage you can use it with any amp. I'll PM you once I have it all here.
  6. No precautions that I know of are needed. You need a hex key to open it up though. Fanboy!!!! Btw. I may have a Stax setup to send you soon if you can use an adapter instead of an amp. It's an old Stax (1968) but one of my all time favorites as it defines musicality.
  7. One of the rules here is internal pix or ban... I would certainly take a look to see what it going on as that is a whole lot nicer then a smoking amp...
  8. He did start to use the chassis as a heatsink so that would cause it to run very hot.
  9. Then there is the volume control built into the APL...
  10. I'd take a small drop in fidelity (if any) on the Foobar side rather then loathing the amp.
  11. Don't get me started on the steppers... You can always add inline attenuators to drop the level and they are cheap-ish.
  12. The gain isn't the problem, more likely your source is too hot i.e. its output level is above the 2v(4v) spec. That can be fixed by attenuating the signal before it enters the amp. There was a thread on this a few months back...
  13. Basic rule of thumb with electrostatics... if they sound like crap, don't blame the transducers.
  14. The SR-003 is very sensitive...
  15. It's better then an ESP amp that damages the phones it's driving. Rudi sure makes quality stuff...
  16. The third only has the Daughter of the beast and not the full blown monster. It would be an interesting first project though...
  17. The RPX-100 has a capacitor coupled output and changing the load impedance will therefor have a large impact.
  18. Woot!!! I would also recommend you try an find the second edition of the "Valve amps" book with the 845 based ESL amp.
  19. I last bought an Abit 4 years ago so I'm not exactly current on this. My next mobo will probably be Intel Atom unit which mated to a touch screen will give me a ghetto Sooloos for a fraction of the price. I'll also be able to use the APL Sony remote to control it which makes life a lot easier. Since it was our favorite Scotsman that sparked this discussion he should know that downtown Reykjavik is like the fucking invasion of the kilts. There is some football game later today and they are everywhere... I don't envy them though since fall has set in up here with temperatures around 8
  20. Crap!!
  21. Who needs a computer when you have an ESL or two. What's wrong with the PC?
  22. ESL this time??
  23. SR-Omega on Agon. The price isn't bad but they will always be a gamble due to the failing drivers.
  24. I'm not that crazy. I'm just going to program the sony remote as something and use those codes on the PC.
