  1. The mk2 would be more reliable since the redesigned cable entry is much better executed. They swapped out the fragile silver ribbons which connect the cable entry to the drivers and the whole assembly is now fixed with two screws on each side. Shame they had to do something as stupid as adding the port at the same time... The drivers have the same design which you should be able to shoot a bullet through and they would still play. The SR-Ω is a huge can of worms with known failures from early on which were never fully resolved. The whole assembly is modular so that might be part of the problem...
  2. Still an insane amount IMO for two items that were not built to last.
  3. 4-8... depending on how you look at it... I went up to 750kYen but 900k is just nuts. Send them links to the HF Stax threads and even this one.
  4. Sssshhhh!!!!! Don't tell anybody about the complicated copy/paste maneuver!
  5. Mac's are for people that get easily confused with more then one button on the mouse but I'll never tell how I do it on the PC!!!! SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω SR-Ω
  6. This is the main reason why I sold all of my other headphones, even the ones I really like. While good they all suffer technical limitations compared to the Omegas and why settle for second best... Being a neutral transducer they will sound exactly like the system that they are used in. Give them more power and they will have a larger soundstage, more bass and treble but the fundamental character of the headphones will not change. If you are using Chord cables then I'd start by switching to something better and often cheaper. Since Naim has such a strong presence in the UK you shouldn't have any problem finding a DIN-RCA cable from somebody else, preferably a silver cable. I tried a few of the Chord cables in my system and they aren't a good match to the super resolving Omega.
  7. If it was built by someone even remotely competent (which Mikhail isn't) and sold at a price close to what it costs to make them then it would be an option but in the current state I'd stay away.
  8. Because they are vastly inferior to the Stax and Koss models... All kidding aside it's good to see that you finally got your amp.
  9. This should be the RSA motto...
  10. Single ended. You can put on XLR plugs but that doesn't make them balanced. European manufacturers only use XLR on items that will be sold in the US and often it is just the plugs that are balanced but they are fed only the + output.
  11. The Naim preamp will impact some of that coloration on the Stax so you could like the sound. The original CDS is a good player but highly colored so the SR-007 is only playing what you feed it. All Naim gear is SE only (like most Euro gear) so that is a moot point.
  12. Naim gear is far from neutral so that's your problem right there. Getting a special output cable from the preamp could be the way to go though or just borrow a second Naim preamp and test it... C'mon... take one for the team The Lambda Signature is much better then the current models to my ears and I could only use the new ones for one thing... harvest the drivers to plant them in something else.
  13. It's pretty amazing what can happen when one rifles through all the old spare parts and broken headphones that I've built up over the years. I just made a Lambda Pro from about 4 different headphones...
  14. Why not or just design new drivers... No need to charge the headphones unless something is very wrong. Amp warmup is another thing entirely... You can use the plugs in any way you like and you can unplug while the amp is on.
  15. They all work off the same basic principle but the SL's are a bit bigger and thus use dual transformers to make them an easier load. All speakers have a bias supply but often it is just a ladder type which can be improved on.
  16. I'm not so sure that the SR-007 would like that 3kV output but we won't be that far off in the future.... Any idea of a price?
  17. The SR-007 like most of the best speakers ever made will not impress except you are craving neutrality above all else. That means that they aren't for everybody and why some prefer the SR-Omega and even... ... the HE90. Getting the correct fit is very important and since these phones were used it could be impossible due to old earpads that have gone soft. What I'd do first is to drive the 717 as a power amp from the Naim Pre. Open up the 717 and flip the switch located next to the volume pot to disable it. Very interesting to say the least. Total utter overkill for the SR-007 but they could make a smaller version that works for us headphone lot.
  18. It is SS but it is similar to the tube amps in terms of output power.
  19. The SRM-1 is a class A amp so it will run rather hot.
  20. I'm sorry to say but APL are on the same level as SP and that is definitely not a good place to be. I still haven't heard back from them about my player acting up in late March but I just fixed it myself so I don't care but I will never contact them again about anything.
  21. The T1 is ok as a budget amp for the Mk1 and I prefer it to the 007t. Yup, it's a SRA-14S. There aren't that many out there but expect to see a hefty price paid for what is basically a SRM-1 Mk2 in a larger chassis and with more features. Very expensive new though...
  22. Depends on the plate resistors but this basic design shouldn't be to hard to keep cool.
  23. That's a shame since it could be a great alternative to the Woo and RSA A-10 at a much, much lower price.
  24. Good thing that it was removed since that wasn't a platform for bashing Stax, Koss or Senn. I'd certainly welcome him here to discuss the design and any future development of cans and/or amps. Btw. Are then any news on the Little Dot ESP amp?
  25. I really want them to succeed and bring those that like the Senn sound an alternative. I do have some reservations about the design such lack of air damping inside the stators, earpad shape and chassis design but these are the same reservations I have with the Senn HE's. Mr. HE does have the chops to pull off a good design (the various prototypes are the proof of that) so lets just hope he doesn't stop here and then drops that Head-direct idiot. I'd go with the 717 instead. The 007t is far to weak and soft sounding to do the SR-007 justice.
