  1. One question, has anybody ever stacked MMG's? They are a line source so it should give you moar bass and a custom frame which is wider should help even more due to the larger baffle. There is good reason for why the Maggies need some work done. I mean, who uses aluminum wires in speakers or indeed anything? I don't think that they are even allowed for use in in-wall power wiring here.
  2. The set HE90/HEV90 sold for 15000DM which would be about 7500
  3. It was 1991 for the HE90 and 1993 for the HE60 if I remeber correctly.
  4. I've always wanted to try some of the PSE amps to see if they manage to sold onto some of the SET "magic" while giving more power and control.
  5. Depends on the chassis and sinks used but my old unit very warm to the touch above the sinks and after an hour the whole amp was very warm. Not much of a problem here as we have plenty of cheap, cold air outside...
  6. That does sound very interesting. Plenty of drive at least and all good tube choices. Are you starting to grow fond of parallel output tubes...? On another note I think it's time to try a SET amp with an output transformer just for. Given the needs of the SR-007 it will never be a good match but some of the other phones might like it. Should be dead simple to build and a good excuse to stock up on some 845's... The BH is definitely hot
  7. I'd imagine the cases being pretty cheap, especially when bought in bulk. I'd be interested if I hadn't been looking at too many pictures of the Ayre gear so I want something like that. Crazy I know but with the weak ISK it could be a lot cheaper then anything I'd import. I need to find out what machine shop works on the prosthetics for
  8. How about posting this in some Woo thread on HF... Given the amount of work that goes into a P-P amp it is no wonder that they cut corners along the way but that case does look a lot more solid then the Galaxy crap Rudi is peddling.
  9. I'd watch the back of my head if I were you... 78-S6S is the WPI socket and I think they just kept the Amphenol number as I've seen the same number on some sites.
  10. Nah... Justin takes care of you US lot but my European friends are left out in the cold.
  11. I thought you might like it... I've never seen the data sheet for the WPI sockets and Stax is probably keeping theirs under wraps as usual.
  12. We certainly can do that and since I'll be building a surplus BH (to test out a cheaper way to make the old design) that could take a trip over to Scotland so you can hear how that SR-007 was meant to sound like.
  13. Did he manage to charge 60k for one of his amp? That is truly astounding salesmanship.
  14. Yeah that might be correct. I don't really mind either way but the new "old" BH will be all silver. Now I've only got to find somebody to machine an Ayre MX-R style chassis for me...
  15. Very nice!!! I don't think we've ever discussed it but will the back part be silver like that? You know I loves me some silvah...
  16. Spent most of the day catching up on TV shows missed in the Christmas insanity and worked on a miniaturized Blue Hawaii PSU to try and fit inside the Egmont. I really don't like doing P-P work with transistors... Indeed I still remeber my Rotel RCD-971 -> SRM-313 -> SR-007 setup with fondness.
  17. That's because the SR-007 is nothing short of awesome and Dan said all the right things. That being said I must admit to hardly touching the 007 after I got my Omega/007 hybrid. Now if I could only get a Blue Hawaii to try them on... There are of course upgrades you could do to the ES-1 such as install a new PSU just for the output stage, fix the filament wiring and add a CCS to the output stage but it would take SP decades to do this if he even could.
  18. Snake oil at it's finest and playing on the major weakness of HF since almost nobody there thinks that something can be crap despite the high price. That idiot at SAA invited me to come to the NY meet in December to try out his cables when I questioned the BHSE cable he's pushing.
  19. Mmmm Ayre... Could be very interesting.
  20. ...and you were expecting anything less?
  21. You should definitely install moar BlackGates as the Rotels don't have enough. I have the RCD-971 and it is a great player that I sadly neglect due to a wealth of other sources. It's similar to the 991 using most of the same chips and design. The only mods I did was to install an IEC connector but a new clock, better opamps in the output stage and some PSU work springs to mind.
  22. Since were on the subject... a point of comparison which lists the mic's used
  23. I don't but that was meant as a joke.
  24. Some well placed Dynamat should take care of that...
  25. Their's planars, of course they are hard to drive. The original T-50 makes most amps cry...
