  1. If blowing on the outer side worked then there is something stuck inside the drivers. There isn't a solid (i.e. film) dust cover on the back so you were able to shift what ever debris which is causing the short. You could try opening up the drivers (I've never done it so I'm not sure if it is even possible) or add some damping to the back to give the bass a bit more punch.
  2. Happy birthday!
  3. It has a dual differential output via transformers but the rest of the amp is SE.
  4. Ditto. It hit me hard when I lost my grandfather and it took some time to live with it. My other grandfather died 3 days before I was born so I only had the one.
  5. It's filled with mineral wool.
  6. The Sr-50 doesn't have any of the bass reflex stuff of the 4070 but the idea to use a small dome as a back, was a good one.
  7. One SACD also springs to mind, The Who - Tommy. It really shows that the SR-007 can throw a large(ish) soundstage when called for. I do have some people from the Baltic states working for me so I guess it's time to ask them for some tips and to source some CD's for me.
  8. Ditto on Megadeth. Nothing shows off a properly driven SR-007 then some complex metal at high volume.
  9. As in special ed.?
  10. That I'm not so sure about. They appear to only change something when the distributors get mad and demand it but otherwise they go their own way.
  11. Ditto!!!
  12. That sucks Doug.
  13. Stax know full well about us (both HF and HC) but I'm not sure they like all that their seeing. I really should post that SR-007Mk2/A mod guide on HF to stir up some shit... I'd be glad to bring a hammer with me and hit them over the head with it. According to a source inside Stax, the SR-007A was supposed to be moar neutral then the Mk1. I'd also like to give them a piece of my mind about those SR-Omega/007 conversions...

It's got a 13 ep order but that is rumored to change during the summer according to zap2it.
  15. Kinda hard to do since they are still in Japan.
  16. That's not a Lambda Nova in the pic...
  17. You think I wouldn't have picked one up already if I knew about it?
  18. I have a few theory's that I need to try but a fully modded unit is just like the Mk1 but with a bit more kick in the bass and slightly more forward. I quite like it actually... I also have Craig looking for a "cheap" SR-007A which I would then mod and let you guys try out by sending it too meets. Do you mean the SR-404 Limited Edition? I've already bought one of those...
  19. Time for some blutac??
  20. Have you tried just pushing the volume knob back into place?
  21. The older amps had a round brass bit so I guess you are right. Appears that Stax have changed the design a bit...
  22. Ok, seeing the pics jogs my memory. You need to remove the front panel to get to the screws so take off the back of the amp. There are screws underneath the top and then underneath the amp (two each though there could be 4 on the bottom, two to fix the bottom plate in place). The faceplate should then be loose and you can pull it off. Be careful with the power switch though and the led since they are fixed on the inside. If you can see light shining through the holes then the screws are probably inside the amp or in the box it arrived in. They are hex or torx so bear that in mind. Nate could be right here.
  23. The back part of the volume knob is fixed in place by screws (hex if I remember correctly) and the front part is just pushed into place.
  24. Mmmm... muffins. I have ti make some with wild berries tomorrow.
