  1. The ET-1000 is a great mix of the Stax SR-X Mk3 and the SR-Lambda with some twists of its own. A truly great headphone...
  2. Sure is. That's the best part about P-P tube amps, you have to do the chassis work first before anything else.
  3. ...so I should start to assemble some PCB's for you then?
  4. Any Stax II model is export so if you were to buy from Japan then they are A models. There is no difference besides the A models only being available in silver and being wired for 100v operation. That can be changed though with a bit of soldering. It's well worth it for the huge savings.
  5. Quite a bit actually... There are a couple of possibilities, most of which are based on the earliest Stax amps such as the SRA-6S. It's such a rats nest that the pictures make it almost impossible to decipher. How about Al brings the amp to you next time you meet and you draw it up for us... no?
  6. Singlepower and RWA... isn't that the definition of fail? Ohhh and damn you Justin for not allowing me to have an all silver BHSE. I do have this sandblasting rig though...
  7. It's a SR-Alpha Excellent Pro cable. The gold pins prove it is a PC-OCC cable and that is the Gamma/Alpha strain relief.
  8. Happy birthday!!
  9. You need massive amps for those S-L's since the M3's are hardest units to drive. I heard older A-1's and they are sublime to say the least...
  10. The big ES-1 is taking up all my time plus some PCB work on the side. Once the big ES-1 is up and running then I can start work on the mini and draw up the PCB. I'll probably draw up the Egmont as well since it is so simple with feedback and all.
  11. Happy birthday!!
  12. Worse then bad...
  13. I'd use ECC99's but then again I want to use them for everything.
  14. Nice to see they have updated the site. It's also a better version of a splitter... a splittor... The 6SL7's have plenty of gain so I guess that's why they used them. It's hard to go from ECC83's... There were issues with the output stage (DC coupled) but it's supposed to be all better now. I'd love to compare it to a fully rebuilt ES-1....
  15. The SR-404 is just not a good headphone in comparison to its older siblings. The Signature does have some etch but it is fairly benign compared to the peak on the SR-404.
  16. You can crack open the Lambda drivers but it isn't easy getting them back together. Dust issue normally presents as a static sound in the driver at all times but a bass resonance could be due to a bad seal somewhere. Are the drivers and earpads completely airtight? If you press the phones towards your head then you should hear the diaphragm flex...
  17. It's probably a phase splitter for the SE input. We'll see when they post the internal pics...
  18. I will but it may take a while. Be ready before CanJam XXX (2010 )
  19. Yeah... cheap PSU caps. There is no PCB in that PSU so it is identical to my unit except with two complete, yet seperate DC filament supplies, each running off it's own transformer winding. On my unit there were two rectifiers (one for each winding) but only a single set of caps, resistors. The winding is actually hooked up to the rectifier on this one but nothing connected to the output...
  20. Hmmm they've added a sole 12AU7....
  21. I'm sorely tempted to pick one up.
  22. Changing to boutique caps or leaving out the "bias adjustment" for the 3rd stage doesn't change the basic "design" which is always the same on the amps we've had a good look at. It's the same clusterfuck time and time again... The newest pics are especially entertaining in a twisted way since Mikhail actually built two filament supplies into the PSU but only used one of them. Running all those tubes off a single 6.8A winding isn't a good idea to say the least...
  23. It's just a homage I think since this isn't Stax project. Looks like it is a variation of their other amp but with a opamp gain stage and 12FQ7's. Sure sounds like it but could also be a torn diaphragm. I was going to ask Craig to do it so thanks.
  24. There is only one volume level that you need and it's MOAR LOUD!!!!!
  25. Would you guys be really pissed off I'd build the new version of the KGSS then? Moar power then the BHSE with a +/-500v PSU...
