  1. Happy Birthday Todd!!!
  2. Very power hungry to say the least since they are so... ehhh... small. A nice ESL63 would be a very nice option but do get them off the floor. Despite what Quad says, the new speakers are just redressed 63's with some extra panels on the 9 models. They must have asked Mikhail for help since MOAR!!! is always better...
  3. Can you imagine using the 4070 all day for monitoring duties? That's why it was designed in the first place, commissioned by one of the Japanese TV stations. I should have the review somewhere on the HDD but it's over two years old and I've learned quite a bit since then.
  4. Hmmm implanted ESP amps... the new frontier for RSA now that nobody has been stupid enough to buy the A-10? I'd love to build one of Franks amps but the concept of a SE solid state amp with a transformer on the back came up which would be just too cool.
  5. Hehe... How about you lot team up to build me an amp, Kevin has this new SS design with +/-900v PSU (the BHSE is +/-400v). It's a lot cheaper then the T2, that's for sure.
  6. Ok, it's official now. I'm not looking forward to my next CC bill...
  7. Hehe, I couldn't even write a comparison review of all the Lambdas. After about two pages of technical drivel and history then I had almost nothing to say about the sound... I've also had more then one set of nearly every one of those with something like 14 Lambda Signatures, 12 L-Pro's and countless Gamma/SR-X units. Let's face it... I had a problem.
  8. Well here goes but I'm bound to forget quite a few. I wish I still had the list which was in my HF profile before the epic crash... Stax SR-1 SR-3 SR-3N SR-5 SR-5N (gold) SR-5NB SR-X Mk2 SR-X Mk3 SR-X Mk3 Pro SR-Sigma SR-Sigma Pro SR-Sigma 404 SR-Lambda SR-Lambda Pro SR-Lambda Signature SR-Lambda Spirit SR-Lambda Pro Classic SR-Lambda Nova Basic SR-Lambda Nova Classic SR-Lambda Nova Signature SR-202 SR-303 SR-404 SR-SC1 Sr-Gamma SR-Gamma Pro V1 SR-Gamma Pro V2 SR-Alpha Pro SR-Alpha Pro Excellent SR-Omega SR-Omega/007 SR-007 SR-007A SR-007 Mk2 4070 Sr-001 Mk1 SR-001 Mk2 SR-003 SR-30 SR-30 Pro SR-40 SR-50 SR-60 SR-80 SR-80 Pro (gold or something like that) Sennheiser HE60 HE90 Unipolar (both of them) Koss ESP6 ESP7 ESP9 ESP9b ESP10 ESP950 Sony ECR400 ECR500 ECR600 Jecklin PS0 PS1 PS2 (and they all hurt like hell so I never spent much time with them) All of the Stax OEM cans (Marantz, Magnavox, Realistic etc.) Aurex HR-1000 Beyer ET-1000 A-T ATH-9000 Phillips N6325 (and some of the many OEM versions) Infinity Micro-Seiki AKG K340 One of the Minifon models (very similar to the Infinity and M-S) Jade There was also a prolonged modding phase where I came up with all sorts of whaky shit. Some were never 100% functional though...
  9. What I've heard would be far too long but I've never heard two Stax models, the SR-2 (which isn't supposed to exist but it was made briefly in 1968) and the equally rare SR-X Mk1 with mesh drivers. I'd also like to hear the Pioneer SE-1000, the Sony ECR-800 and the Purtscheller set even if it is only a prototype.
  10. Should I make a list as well...? The Lambdas do benefit from a high power amp and with the Lambda Signature I'd say it was mandatory to tame the etch.
  11. Ditto!!!
  12. Do you really need to say more?
  13. Worse, like pealing away layers of plastic.
  14. Mine would do that if you press them hard towards your head. The sound is alarming to say the least...
  15. Most of the 2005 units were modified in that way so they work just fine off a Pro bias outlet. Mine certainly did...
  16. It may not be funny but it is true. The OP contacted me and I suggested that he'd look for an Aristaeus or bug Justin a bit since his ES-1 is truly fubar.
  17. The 4070 is a monitor so it has some similarities with the SR-X lineup, slight forward tilt, glorious midrange and a bit light on the bass bloom even if it extends very deep. They are an amazing design since the only indication of their closed nature is a slight thickening of the upper midrange. Comfort is an issues though since they are massive (650gr ) and get very hot around the ears after a while, even up here in the frozen north. The earliest examples didn't travel freely on the hinges so they won't fit everybody but Stax fixed that back in 2002.
  18. I've mostly stopped since my stomach can't handle it. Two weeks in Greece, downing a 700ml bottle of Stroh80 every day does that to you. Not that drinking two bottles of white wine in 80 minutes on Saturday did it any favors but I only threw up once which is pretty good. I even handled some 80% Absinthe rather nicely later in the evening...
  19. Wait... you lot liked the He90 out of the BH? What on earth were you smoking... I have a hunch that the 4070 should be even more dynamic once they have been fitted with SR-404LE earpads.
  20. It actually stands for "What the fuck, my ES-1 is fubar and I need a new amp..."
  21. Happy birthday guys!!!!
  22. Cool!!! Btw... I'm hammered!!!
  23. The He90 is great but I ultimately prefer the SR-007 for everything. The SR-Omega is trying hard to be neutral but ultimately has a signature of it's own and is thus the half way point so to speak. Yup that's the N1000.
  24. Good point but then the manufacturer is crap. Cue markl talking about stuffing pads...
  25. We are throwing a friend his bachelor party today. We started off abducting him from home, dress him up in silly clothes and then made him stand on the middle of a round-a-bout with a sign saying "honk if I'm hot!" Then we had some brunch and went out to sea to try some fishing. I had to go to work for a short while but now I'm sitting at home trying to get drunk before the dinner tonight.
