Damn, they sure have increased their prices! Purk posted a pricelist over on HF some time ago from 2007 and it was somewhere around 150$ back then...
-
...and I still do. Indeed. These tubes were branded by just about everybody so if you want cheap ones, look for National, AEG or some "odd" names. That's a good idea but it might be a bit expensive. 150-170$ or something like that for the cable/connector...

You can make a pretty nice rack.... ehhhh.... equipment stand from Ikea Lack tables so I'm sure Target has something of use as well.
-
The other side of that argument is that the SR-Ω/HE90 are overly bright. They certainly both have etch issues to my ears which is why I did sell the Ω in the end. \ Ohh and you are 100% on the O2 volume level, listen quite loud too. Ahhh crap, please don't do that. I can hardly stand myself as it is...

With a lower bias voltage then the potential of the diaphragm is lower and the amp has to work harder to push/pull it. I'm not sure what you are hearing though... \

KT77's should fit but now that I'm using XF2's... it's not something I have to think about. I also swapped in Sylvania 6DJ8's and any forward nature is gone now, replaced with nothing but pure awesome! I blame the EL34's that I was using, made in the USSR comrade!!! They do look a lot like the RFT tubes so perhaps the tooling went even further east in the late 80's. As for the rack, it is a Target unit with a steel frame and glass shelfs which I got for free. The amp is sitting on top of it within reach of a window blowing in some crisp arctic air. With better tubes the bass has a come out bit more but not as much as the BH could dish out. The chassis is certainly running on the limit of heat dissipation but the DIY amp shouldn't have a problem with 10W. The sound out of this amp is simply sublime though, vocals have the stunning presence only a well fed SR-007 can deliver and the soundstage is simply massive with plenty of depth.

It's roughly 14

The temp seems to have stabilized and I'm measuring 62

One thing to add, the amp still has all the "stock" tubes in place. That means cheap 6dj8's with even cheaper EL34's. Kevin donated some nice Sylvania 6dj8's and I bought a quad of Mullards on ebay plus this amp really needs some XF2's. Included with the amp were also some of those red JJ tubes. Who decided that red or blue EL34's was a good idea?

It's a compilation CD of all the best songs recorded in the last 50 years, most are crap but there is true gold in between. This one in particular shows some true Hammond organ skills. I'll see if I can't... ehhh... share it. Btw. Kevin wasn't kidding that this thing runs hot. I just measured 55

The first post was made about 3 minutes after the relay had turned on the red power led but over all this amp is very quick on its feet, a bit up front and lacks a bit of the bass might of the BH. Detail is excellent but the little voice inside my head already hates that RK27 sitting there... I know it's crazy but I can't help it. It's a bit mazing just how much detail the APL can dig up even out of some 1969 recordings made here in Iceland in very primitive equipment. The soundstage is typical SR-007, huge when called for and small when it should be. Everything has its own space and instruments are layered one on top of the other.
-
Not free but I'll manage. It's coming up to operational temp now and it sounds sweet. Perhaps not the same bass monster as the BH and if anybody says the SR-007 are dark after listening to this, then they are deaf. I'll have to build something out of the heavy duty wood we use as tables in the bakery with a sturdy frame. 3" thick wood should hold up pretty much anything...

I just wanted to let ya'll know that I'm listening to the T2 now. This thing is simply massive, too big for my equipment rack as a matter of fact....
-
Working on a new panel... what do you think?

...and now he's ruined it... -
Sounds like a plan!!
-
Can I get you to make one for the T2 as well? 11 PSU's plus 4 filament windings... would 3k$ cover it?
-
if it is moar better then sign me up!!!
-
Hehe... I'm glad though that our baby elephant listened to us and didn't cancel his order. Now Justin, where is mine!!! I have a certain heavy lump of Japanese over engineering arriving soon and it needs its cousin to play with. I've pretty much given up on converting you but a modded Mk2 might be something you like... They are the same unless Justin did something to them. They do grip very tightly but I prefer the look of stock Stax plugs.
-
...so you are saving the best phones for last, Mk1 and SR-Ω? Ohhh and that is the same Fisher socket as the other amps have...
-
Needle-nose pliers and brute force. \
-
Seconded!!! I'm sure as hell not going to do it...
-
I can't be sure what's going on there. Certainly could be the amp but first job for any SR-Omega owner is to buy some allen (hex) metric keys so that you can make sure the housing is firmly fixed together. No Stax headphones vary that much!!
-
Most of the old Stax phones had one of the three screws covered like that to keep people out of the headphone. Yeah... did you look closely at the amp? 3/4 of a Woo GES to be more exact but only fucked up with bad tubes for the job and some "tweaks" for 4 times the price. We both know how much that "preamp" is worth...
-
If you had a $1,000, or so, to spend and K-701 headphones

Ditto.
