  1. Tru dat but firing up something like this for the first time is a bit scary. In a basic tube amp like the ES-1 the resistors are large enough to take some level of fuck-up before all hell breaks loose.
  2. Having to shake resistor parts out of your hair while trying to shut off the fire alarm make it loose its charm just a bit.
  3. No Exactly. Mistakes take the form of various parts reaching airborne status and catching fire rather spectacularly.
  4. I'm sure Justin will chime in later but here is a short guide: 1: let the amp warm up for at least two hours (maybe more since I'm not sure when it is running at full temp) 2: place the probes of the multimeter between the + and - output for that channel (in the Stax socket seen here, red in the + output, black in the -) and adjust the back pot for 0VDC. 3: Now remove the black probe and connect it to the shell of a RCA socket on the back (aka ground) and adjust the front pot for 0VDC. 4: Repeat for the other channel.
  5. It will be different from the stock amp with higher power output and better PSU.
  6. The SRM-600 spec sheet is out. Japanese only though but there are some interesting specs there like the same voltage swing as the SRM-007t...
  7. This really isn't the project to show off your arcy-sparky skills. With 100+ transistors plus dozens of diodes it will be pretty hard to troubleshoot it if something were to go wrong. Expensive is also the name of the game here with the resistors alone at roughly 300$ and that's mostly using the cheap PRP's. Upgrade to Riken's and things get very expensive. Btw. If there was ever any doubt, the T2 sounds bloody fucking fabulous. It's more mellow and less intensive then the BH.
  8. Just buy one of these. They are designed for adjusting those pots. How about one of these soldered to a spare RCA plugs ground and some wire. These tip jacks are similar to what is used on the ES-1.
  9. I once saw an Accuphase A-50 cake on a Swedish forum so a T2 cake is certainly doable. I can also print on paper you can eat (it's made out of glucose) so getting the fine detail is certainly possible. Breads are a lot harder to control...
  10. Spiffy!! Now you just need some SFI plugs...
  11. Ssssshhhhh Stretch!!!!!
  12. I could only find one crappy picture of the top of the BHSE PCB but it looks like the offset (gain) pots are towards the front of the chassis and the balance pots towards the back. To adjust the balance you put the probes of the multimeter into the + and - output of each channel and adjust for 0VDC. The gain is adjusted with one probe in the + output on each channel and the other probe connected to ground on the amp, adjust for 0VDC. Please wait for Justin to verify this though before doing anything...
  13. You really should bias the tubes. The balance pot isn't a big deal with matched pairs but reducing the offset is a must. So Justin, which pot is which?
  14. I just checked and it's the SRA-6S schematic which I have, dated FEB 1961. It's a neat design which can also function as a preamp.
  15. I haven't received my 404LE yet so I simply don't know.
  16. The 6CA7 isn't the same tube as a EL34, at least the difference was large enough so they could claim it to be their own and not pay any royalties as a EL34. I'm afraid all the tuberolling in the world won't help you here. What you are hearing is the core sound of the cans though a highly transparent amp and thats why I never recommend a BH (or KGSS, 717 etc.) for use with the HE90. I did get better results with the HE60 though but they will never be bass monsters, more in line with the 4070 and SR-X Mk3 Pro.
  17. Thanks guys. It was a crazy day to say the least, 14 hours of non-stop running plus a couple of hours to clean up. Just making sure the store was fully stocked was a nightmare since we sold a lot more breads then I thought we would, I focused mostly on pastries, cakes and the like, and I can't simply make more breads appear by snapping my fingers. Even though there are tricks to make them develop faster (warmer water, more yeast, adding enzymes and maltose etc.) they still need about 60 minutes in the proofer and another 30 in the oven. Let's just say I'm glad this is over...
  18. Looks like the SR-404 earpads have been released...
  19. I think I even have the schematic for the SRA-7S somewhere around here but it could also be the SRA-6S... I've had a few of those over the years and even modified them for Pro bias.
  20. Time to update the old Popcorn hour then. Some extra network bandwidth will be nice to have over the old unit.
  21. I don't know of any stock pads that will fit but I was once going to mount ESP950 drivers in a HE90 like shell and use HE90 earpads. You can't modify the stock bias supply to do that but you can build a small adjustable one and mount it to the sidewall of the amp or something like that. Run it off the main transformer and B+
  22. I'll try to take some but it may be excessively crazy. We'll see... I'll Fedex it over in the morning...
  23. Woot I have a new boss!! Tell me about it. \
  24. The pads on the ESP950 suck balls but the cans have some serious promise. You need a new amp though...
