  1. I haven't heard anything but the use of ECC99's in the SRM-600 could mean a redesign of the 007t is in order. It is certainly a far better tube for the 6CG7 for this role and might give the circuit a much needed boost. Add some regulators to the HV lines or even a CCS for the output and it would be a very nice amp indeed.
  2. Use has no effect on the o-ring aging so it probably will need to be replaced. I've owned two supposedly NOS sets and 3 of the 4 o-rings were broken.
  3. Next step would be to make sure you have the right resistors in all the right spots and that all caps are pointing the right way. I would also reflowt all solder joints to just make sure there aren't any cold ones. Please make sure the caps are fully drained before touching the board though.
  4. Is that bolt in the middle of the PCB touching some of the traces next to it? The soldermask isn't a great insulator and high voltage will arc over a short span.
  5. Hadn't seen this one before. Very beautiful and it makes perfect sense for Stax to drop the SRM-300 in favor of a redesigned SRM323. Indeed, worthy of a temp ban at least to mention Grado here. Everything branded with Rudistor is an overpriced piece of shit. The electrostatic amps will also destroy your headphones as bonus feature.
  6. It certainly would be fun to visit Stax and present them a modded Mk2 aka how it should have been done. Btw. What do you think of this? Given the crap Rudistor usually builds at insane prices this will probably be great...
  7. Just got the PS Audio newsletter and it had a large picture of a SR-202 with this next to it: Nice story.
  8. I'm with Justin on this, just enough solder so that it makes a nice peak on both sides of the board.
  9. I figured Craig would farm this one out. It's a 4 gang pot or just quad pot. TKD also uses a suffix for the parts so 2CPxxx would be a regular stereo pot, 4CPxxxx would be the quad versions and then 6 and 8 respectively. Good luck.

    Fluke 179?

Ditto... I have have Marc's address if we need it.

    Fluke 179?

I like this one, built to withstand my abuse and high voltage.
  12. That's a very good price. No word on the TKD's yet but I'm hopeful they will offer us a cheap alternative.

    Something like this then,
  14. Justin, how many times do we have to tell you this, stop stealing from others!!!!!!!!!
  15. Very easy but the soldering is not for the faint of heart since you are soldering directly to the driver. Basically you remove the earpads/spring, remove all 6 screws and the black backing plate. Then you access to the cable behind the small masking plug, desolder all the connections and the old one is gone. The new one uses the same system as all other Stax cables, line=+, middle wire is bias and the last one is -. Just remeber to cover up the driver with something solid (cardboard perhaps) before soldering.
  16. The SR-007 drivers are all completely sealed I wouldn't worry about them. The cable is an issue though and can crap out at any time...
  17. The external power should take over and feed the device, at least that has been my experience though it was a few years ago.
  18. Hehe, the beast always demands more wire...
  19. Some more Belden wire...
  20. Both like to be cranked up high, especially on a BH, but I'd say the HE60.

This stuff should be required reading over on HF...
  22. It's been a year since I paid for my BHSE (ordered it months before) but I suspect Justin is taking his sweet time with mine since he knows I won't bother him about it. It's also not like I need any more amps...
  23. Easy fix, just build a BH.
  24. That's too cool. There have been some talk of late that we drop our current democratic government and adopt the pre 1264 system again. It will never happen but it would be cool none the less.
  25. I'm going to go all national pride on you and say, Snorri Sturluson since he's credited for writing my favorite book, Egils Saga. It may be 750 years old but it's just brilliant and even funny at times. Pretty hard to make the main character likable when he's a greedy SOB who killed his first man at the ripe age of 7 but he pulled it off.
