  1. Happy birfday! I are bot!
  2. With a DAC on board then it would make perfect sense to offer a balanced output with a digital volume control. Simply slapping on a phase splitter (which are not all created equal) seems like a terrible idea to me.
  3. They would probably charge me extra for that.
  4. No threshold and roughly 70% tax on anything audio related.
  5. Yeah, I took it as input. Then this is just a SE amp with a phase splitter and a differential output stage with more noise/impedance. What a truly terrible idea.
  6. jamato said it would have a balanced input but I doubt it very much that the amp is balanced throughout. Not that it would make any sense to do so as what source are you going to use that would give you a balanced signal to work with. There is also the problem of attenuating that balanced input, either digital or go with a 4-gang analogue pot which would have to be custom ordered in 100 piece lots or even 1000.
  7. Yup, dual gang only so either he's "faking" a 4 gang pot or the output stage is only balanced. That means the balanced input is useless and one could just as well buy a SRS-001 which is smaller and cheaper.
  8. Perhaps someone should also point out to him that this isn't the first balanced portable amp ever made, he's roughly 12 years too late on this one. Cough... Stax SRS-001... cough... Ohhh as for having a financial interest, his crap isn't selling, pure and simple. Just look at that stealth phono stage which is so low key that less then 500 people have viewed the thread. Comments like the magical properties of his magical wire (made by the lowest bidder to some spec invented by bureaucrats) and the moar awesome balanced amp supposed to boost sales. No doubt he's going to offer said connector for sale to others.
  9. Ohh the humanity. Why would anybody swap out caps in a DC coupled amplifier? The bias must sound a lot better now...
  10. A solid state HDD would fare even better though.
  11. Build a floating base of some sort tied to a gyro. Well that or work on a carrier which has this system in place already.
  12. You should be able to boot into bios before getting any disk related errors. It's often F2 to access the bios and F10 to just access the boot selection menu.
  13. Sat and calculated tube circuits for most of the day. Can't wait until this phase is over and I can actually build this thing...
  14. Sounds reasonable. I'll probably spend that much just on customs fees for the parts...
  15. So the real solution here is to send all the boards to Justin and have him do the assembly? Sounds like a plan...
  16. Given how much you like the Reimyo then a USB transport would be a good idea and the simplest solution. I use a Trends UD10.1 which has a wide range of connectors but something like this would work just fine for testing the technology. A generic 75ohm coax to the APL and that's all there is to it. Foobar streaming files from the server located in the other room. I'm going to build something like the Sooloos with a touchscreen and a small PC (a cashiers PC would do the trick) and then drop CD's as a whole.
  17. I'd just switch to FLAC (or ALAC if you prefer that) Bob. I used to be a hardcore CD guy but now I do almost all of my listening with the computer feeding a DAC. To supplement the Ayre you could also just buy a USB transport so you can keep using the Reimyo. Some of them even have async.
  18. Is there any other way?
  19. Mine is on its way as well.
  20. In Japan they often don't have earth in their power cables so external terminals are needed. I only used it when biasing the amps.
  21. That's the plan. An amp or two plus a Lundahl transformer with a modded SR-007A Crap... now everybody knows!!!
  22. Yup and only one value, two voltage ratings.
  23. I know, I know. At least you get a summer and not just some slightly warmer rain which is going slightly less sideways then usual.
  24. 1500 polyester film caps. I think I might have a DIY problem...
  25. Freezing in CA? Here it's 6
