  1. Truth be told, I've never seen a Lambda driver fail. Break open, sure, but never just die on me. Even if the driver gets only sporadic "doses" of bias then they could play perfectly fine. The best way to test this would be to open them up (no need to remove the pads, just lift up the 4 corners to reveal the screws) but you could also try to bend the cable next to the earpiece and see if it makes a difference.

    I can carry a tune...
  3. 1-1.3K$ with basic parts would be my guess as well. Basic 4-gang pot and a single transformer plus what ever chassis one can cook up.
  4. Depends on how cheap you want to go and what version of the design you want to use.
  5. We should have that engraved on the amp... 200W+

Pure win there Doug!! Too bad we have zero snow right now... I haven't worn one of those since my acting days in collage...
  7. Could be that the transducer is on its last legs but it could also be caused by an intermittent connection on the bias line to that driver.
  8. Happy Birthday!!!
  9. But... but... did you use an 18AWG cable to the Slim to unleash its full bass potential?
  10. Happy Birthday Dmitriy!!
  11. Perhaps I should bug Todd and ask him to add it to the HC smileys.
  12. You know us, little bit of raping and pillaging never hurt nobody so no promises...
  13. This was going on long before that. These new fangled electronix are considered luxury goods up here so they should be taxed accordingly... Speaking of the bailout though, I have to remeber to vote tomorrow. It will be fun take part in something that will truly piss off the EU. Woot!!! I damaged a few units while trying to get the front row to make contact with the board. Could be that I used an axe to do this...
  14. When fitting the 3381's, buy a 0.7mm drill and enlarge the holes a bit. Otherwise it is very fiddly to get them to sit correctly...
  15. Shielding an R-core seems a bit unnecessary to me...
  16. Serviced my dads drill press. Replaced the belt and aligned/lubricated all moving parts so it should be great for the next 30 years.
  17. A BH isn't that expensive to DIY...
  18. Now try an amp with a CCS loaded output stage... The biggest improvement is indeed with drums and the like where the abundant current delivery really comes into its own.
  19. Too bad they use the older Stax sockets which were fixed with epoxy. Was there ever any doubt that I've owned a few of these...
  20. They smell good too. Right now I'm listening to Iron Maiden - Powerslave. All tube amplification FTMFW!!!
  21. Extra resistors and the cap would surely help so it is worth a shot. You could also just copy what Koss did to the letter and see what happens.
  22. You can also just upload the pictures to the site here. Just click the "insert picture" button but they have to be jpg, png or gif. It's been a while since I looked at the exstata bias supply but adding another cap or two at the output could perhaps give you the filtering needed.
  23. What you need is something like the SRE-B3. It would be easy enough to fabricate though...
  24. The 5M resistor would go in line with the bias making the ballast a total of 10M. What did Kevin tell you to do with the KGSS bias supply to increase the filtering? A cap to ground after the ballast resistor is what Stax did prior to the SR-Omega project so something similar to that could work.
  25. Don't remind me... Still they can't do anything better then either a Mk1 or the SR-O so they aren't really needed for day to day listening. Plus the Mk2/A parts take care of the minor comfort issues I had with the Mk1. I do want one though.
