  1. Yes indeed, much like in 1816 (the year of no summer) but the end result is more CO2 in the atmosphere. Good that we are such a "green" country then...
  2. No, not really. An eruption like this releases a lot of CO2 plus other sulfur based substances.
  3. Things are certainly getting bad since there are now directives for everybody outdoors to wear masks due to the ash. \ There are also indicators that two other volcano's might open up soon which could cause devastation to farming on both sides of the Atlantic. Not good... not good at all.
  4. I'm getting my parts directly from Germany and I'll ask him if Senn has any intention to stop supporting the HE60. It would decimate the used market since these are very fragile cans and won't last.

  6. We are quite safe over here but a friend of the family lives just beneath the volcano. He's been evacuated and will not be able to return until the flooding has stopped. There is a massive flood on its way down from the mountains now, the second today and we can only hope the levies will hold or the damage could be quite bad. The water and electric supply for the Vestmann islands is situated not far from there and so is the spot where we are building a new ferry harbor for the islands which could all be washed away. The islands have seen their own fair share of volcanic activity... While the volcanic activity has caused little damage here it is bad news indeed for Norway. With a south-western wind today all the ash has been blown towards Norway and could ground all flights there tomorrow and for even longer. It damages the aircraft engines so nobody can fly near the stuff. It also means all flights from here to Norway, Sweden, Denmark are all canceled until further notice. Why are you giving me such ideas... I wonder if could make that the ultimate DIY project nr.3.

Hey, that's our "White house" here in Iceland! Cool pic...
  8. It's half way around the country so there shouldn't be any problems. Now if the volcano's closer to us would open up then we'd be in trouble.
  9. I also placed a large order for HE60 parts and haven't heard of any issues with sourcing them for me. I know for a fact that Senn will be keeping the Orpheus running indefinitely and they have huge stores of spare parts for every model.
  10. Call and ask for part number 50814.
  11. Now as the eruption had stopped, another one opens up this morning underneath the glacier only a few km from the old spot. This one could go badly as the flooding has already started but everybody has been evacuated out of the area.
  12. Blah, smaller then me...
  13. I'd check with Mioray James as he knows a lot about these old beasts. I'd also stock up on high voltage caps and diodes.
  14. Medallion or normal transformers?
  15. Yup, Stax doesn't stock parts for older models if they have something in current production that fits.
  16. Same exact problem I had with them and so many other great headphones. They are great but when am I going to use them... If the earpads are new stock, then they are the A/Mk2 model since the brown pads have been discontinued. Price is also a good indicator since the new pads are more expensive, roughly 8kYen compared to 6kYen for the old ones.
  17. I personally wouldn't touch that Adcom though I must say I like that copper shield between the PSU and the main circuitry. Also replacing all the film caps with Wima's yet leaving out the aging electrolytics...
  18. The attachements aren't showing up but a vintage dac any day of the week for me. You might have to recap it but that's not a big deal.
  19. The two people who died were Icelandic but utterly clueless. They set off in a Honda CRV not equipped for heading into the highlands. They didn't have a clue where they were going, how to get there or even basic points of reference in the landscape. Now they It's a tragic story about people doing everything wrong, the car running out of gas so they decided to leave it and walk separately to lower ground. If they had just stayed in the car they would have been cold but they would have survived. It was only a matter of time before something like this happened as people think it is just an easy stroll on a summers day to go and see the volcano, which is very far from true. Just this morning it was reported that people had tried to enter the first crater (which has no lava flowing now) which is basically suicide. On a lighter note, this is cool. Damn Americans spying on us though... Being closely related is more like it...
  20. I thought you guys would like this, the volcano on a live video feed. Click any of the links for a different view point. Also, some members of the Top Gear team are up on the glacier now filming some crazy shit which we should see in the summer.
  21. The HE60 has its own sound and nothing else comes close. One might call the Lambda Signature a poor mans HE60 but they are rather different. Same deal with the SR-X Mk3 Pro, some similarities but very different over all. The Mk2 pads might help since they breath a bit more. You also just get used to this strange behaviour with time.
  22. Happy Birthday!!!
