  1. Yup. Not entirely sure why they used that instead of mylar since polyurethane's big selling point when used in grocery bags is that it will break down with time... The key here is really mass as the electrostatic force is so weak. To get the speed a modern model can do you need to either use a thinner membrane or use extreme tension and thicker material. The latter solution has many issues though as you kill the bass amongst other things. That would be the ET990 to compliment the real Beyer 'stat, the ET1000.
  2. Absolutely. It provides a nice comparison point against the crap Meier, RSA and others are peddling at higher prices but to say it is superior to a M3 is just fucking nuts.
  3. I'd spec the transformer at 100mA for some extra headroom but I like to overbuild...
  4. You'd love it... if you are man enough...
  5. Hehe...
  6. Well technically I am in America right now. We are much more like Canada and the US though which is why we should say fuck off to the EU and look westward...
  7. The plan is to get stock housings if Stax has any left but failing that I will build upgraded clones in the same way a SR-007 is built.
  8. Woot!!!!
  9. People claiming it is ground braking is so idiotic it isn't even funny. The hype train is even fueled by the same idiots as are pushing the LCD-2. Just gotta love HF...
  10. Ohhh that's not important, grandstanding by stupid communists which are fake eco freaks is what they do. They oppose all the hydro powerplants people want to build here to fuel our industry because they "pollute" so much. They even heckled and hounded an international expert which claimed it would be far better to build aluminum smelting plants here then in China because they are powered by green electricity.
  11. I have no idea where to get mylar this thin in Europe but I got mine from the US. There is a thread on DIY headphones over on HF running now which has a link to the store. The stock headphone didn't have mylar to begin with but it was relatively thick. In that time 3-4um was the norm as thinner material wasn't available. As for curved stators, they are a stupid idea, even the inventor of curved panels has said so. Now staggered panels, that's a whole other thing and quite a good idea.
  12. Nope, stupid "green" government. Fucking commie bastards...
  13. They got in so much trouble over that it isn't even funny. I don't really see the problem though as we've already mastered cars which can drive on ice so this might be a new growth industry for us...
  14. I see your YH-1000 and raise you spare SR-Omega drivers...
  15. Ditto, sure hope they will make the two series needed to conclude the story.
  16. Just finished Luther. Brilliant BBC stuff...
  17. Happy Birthday Scott!!
  18. I first thought that was a shot from any harbor in Iceland as they are filled with those beasts. Same basic design too, probably built in Norway IIRC or using the same plans.
  19. Ehh messed up would be a good guess. One of their major promises during the campaign was to break all their promises...
  20. There are plenty of stories but they are better suited for a more closed avenue. We did support their campaign though as they had no money and we did in fact make the cake for the congratulatory party. It even had a small bear statue made out of sugar since they promised a polar bear in the city zoo... Ohh and this may be inappropriate but one of the few clips of him I found in English. It's from an old sketch show here...
  21. Today is my first day off since I got home from CJ so I slept in until 8am. May not sound too grand but it's far better then my usual 4am time... I have no idea what I'm going to do today but right now I couldn't care less as I'm listening to my APL/ESX setup and marveling at the 100% valve/transformer amplification...
  22. Fuck yeah Al!!! I finally bought the last missing piece to get Marc's Vulcan amp up and running. Just took me about two years to get to this point...
  23. It really isn't a great idea to go past 1200V on the stators (bias*2) though as bad things will happen. We need to design our own drivers with 1100V bias...
  24. I suggest picking up some shifts working at a local bakery before using the amp to get used to the massive amount of heat....
