  1. The Stax Sigma's are in some ways similar but yeah, the K1k is pretty unique.
  2. Just in time for the new flagship...
  3. The transformer primaries could have an effect here even with nothing connected to the Stax sockets.
  4. The normal bias only version was made well into the 80's going all the different boards I've seen used in them. Most are pretty easy to fit with pro bias...
  5. If it was deionized water then it was fine but normal water... Faulty insulation would be the most probable culprit here.
  6. The 4070 is made in tiny numbers so making drivers for them shouldn't be a problem. Stax have also showed they can make any driver again should the need arise, including SR-X mk3 Pro.
  7. The 4070 isn't a normal Stax headphone by any means since it was designed under a contract of some sort. It's main use is monitoring for the large Japanese broadcast companies so they will probably stay the same. We did know that there was a new, higher end, Omega coming for a few years now. The only issue was when exactly...
  8. It is very different (AC-coupled and normal bias only) and will need to be fully refurbished.
  9. Stax have always referred to them as O2's... Not a chance in hell of that happening...
  10. It does sound pretty good that one. Don't feed it with a 96kHz signal though, the relays go nuts!
  11. Ditto what Doug said. I've never heard a Ultrasone which wasn't a terrible waste of money, time and effort so any rational person would believe this holds true here as well.
  12. My 507 has shipped so stay tuned for impressions and internal pics. As for the new model (SR-707?) I will get one ASAP but I sure hope we don't have another Mk2/A on our hands. Design issues affecting the first units shipped and then fixed silently later on. This was true of the SR-Omega and 4070 as well... They are all the same size so no problem at all. The new leather pads would be lovely on the 4070...
  13. SR-X Mk1 then as I was more thinking in terms of driver/housing design. That's pretty much my ideal headphone, improved SR-Omega drivers in a SR-007 style chassis.
  14. The shop is fully staffed but I have to start each morning, take care of most of the production, make sure we have ample inventory of everything, make all the deliveries, handle all the money/invoices etc. plus pretty much everything that happens. This included making a 100 person wedding cake almost completely on my own which is well outside of my comfort zone. Give me the most finicky bread recipe ever conceived, no worries but cakes are whole other matter... Edit. The reason for all of this is my brother is in Germany to become a Master Konditor. When he comes back home he'll have to go in for some minor surgery as well but it is better to group these things.
  15. Looks like a cross between the SR-007 and SR-Omega.

Very nice Douglas!!! You can also get bitumen sheets for car sound insulation pretty cheaply and add them to the box wall. Certainly cheaper than Dynamat...
  17. I'm on day two of running the bakery on my own and I've already had to deal with 3 major clusterfucks. The next month will be no fun at all...
  18. The pads on Kevin's set were beyond fubar so that is certainly a factor. It would also be a good thing to try an loosen up the arc a bit. The Mk2 pads also fart so that shouldn't change a whole lot.
  19. All your dynamic threads belong to us!!!
  20. The SRM-3 is a pretty odd duck, it's the portable SRM-Xh PCB but with a "real" PSU on an extra board and uprated parts in the amp section (higher rails and more power with a larger heatsink). I for one quite like my upgraded SRM-Xh...

You could also do some fair bit of tweaking to the box if you are so inclined.
  22. Like I've said about 1.3 million times, fit is very important so that could certainly be it. I've had quite a few SR-007's go through here and they all sound the same once I've done my usual tweaks and changed the pads.

Do it now!!! If only for the ribbons...
  24. So this is what stupidity looks like. They were talking about the AD-2000 not the D2000 you fucktard. Audio-Technica vs. Denon (Fostex)...
  25. Happy Birthday!!!
