  1. Hehe, there are also two Dynalo's...
  2. We always used silver mica with the KGSS/BH's so it should be just fine.
  3. I'm building a M3 and the first thing I did was to install the jumpers to bypass the bb circuit. Variable gain may be a good idea but you can always put in a switch to do that. Hell wire up a 24V relay directly on top of the board for a short signal path.
  4. The do sound ok but flat PCB's directly behind the drivers aren't doing them any favors...
  5. Steve: Sorry about your loss... Jacob: That truly sucks.
  6. The hassle is half the fun. It took a long time to refurb the ESP6, first I gutted them completely and installed a Magnavox cable to use them with Stax equipment. It was much later that I moved the internal parts into a separate box after going over them completely. In other news, I'm now listening to the first of two Lundahl LL1627 based transformer boxes. The transformers are setup for a 1:17 ratio and that works just fine with my Gainclone. I'll have to do some more testing with the flea powered stuff though as the other box will be used with only 8W. I'll post pics when I can bring myself to unplug it...
  7. Be prepared for the pain!!! That is one seriously uncomfortable headphone. I'd recommend a ESP9 headband (the only way I could even wear them) and you will have to open them up and dig out the decomposing foam.
  8. That's not one done by me. I designed those boards and that loop through setup works with only one version of the SRD-7's so I dropped it on later versions of the boards. My advice would be to move the wires so that the colors are correct or clean up the over all wiring inside the box and connect the transformers directly to the binding posts on the back of the unit. This would remove the switching setup and the umbilical but also results in a purer signal path where signal and power lines aren't mixed together. That's what I do to all the unit's I've modded plus installing better binding posts on the back. The 6SN7 and 6CG7 are the same so no issues with swapping them. The ECC99 is more like the ECC83 and similar variations. Welcome to my world.
  9. Picked up the Lundahl trafo boxes from powder coating. Normally there are small flaws here and there but these a bloody perfect and the color is just stunning.
  10. It is really astounding just how bad they are. Not a DACT fan but the TKD 601 is excellent and bloody tiny. Ohh and if anybody needs a cheap 4-gang pot then drop me a line. I still have some Alpha's left from my bulk order and to these ears they are a large step up from the RK27 and cheaper too.
  11. No mistake, just the wonders of markup...
  12. I stumbled upon this at a local store: 1USD is about 115ISK so that is a very good deal... or not...
  13. Looking at that pic I'm glad I asked Kevin to add those extra holes for the smaller 100nf caps. Ohh and that case is really on the tight fitting side of things...
  14. Yup. I'm crazy but not that crazy... Some of the amps are just missing the lead wires (but the mounting studs are in place on the transformer) so it is just a matter of adding the correct colors. Some of the amps do have the windings cut inside the protective plastic and that can be a pain to repair.
  15. Yup. I had to add the 120V wires to the transformer and clear out some excess solder but it is pretty easy, at least on the unit I had
  16. I only see two options really, mini XLR and some sort of LEMO. Neither are fun to work with as they require a steady hand and thin wire which most of these people will not understand...
  17. The prototypes were Pro bias. There is really no reason for Stax to go any higher, at least not yet.
  18. Indeed, it is a matter of a larger core. The only transformers I've had a problem with here are the truly over sized Victoria Magnetics but they must have been something very wrong. That's not bad at all. Mine is starting to become weak after 5.5 years but only yesterday I had to jump start by dad's Range which is only 3 years old. The acid in the battery measures just fine though which is quite odd...
  19. I think all SumR transformers can handle 50/60Hz as will most others. In a truly global market and step up/down transformers it is the only thing that makes sense. Future it is. Dalbani should have 1486's and most of the others.

This is an old restoration trick used on amps with exposed capacitors such as the Leak gear. Cut off the bottom panel and fit new caps inside the can. That said, using the same size and voltage would be a good place to start...
  21. Mouser can order the output transistors for you but they won't sell the the 10m90 any longer outside the US. Dalbani might carry all of them (except the LSK389), I haven't checked but they are in the UK.
  22. You might be able to bend the 2SK pins to fit but the LSK389 is reasonably easy to find.
  23. The transformer will have any primaries that you like, dual 117V, single 117/230 or two 117V with 100V taps. SumR can make any of that for you. Voltage handling is mostly the key here. It's true that not many of the resistors will see the full voltage but we are doing this like it were a production unit, with high tolerances and as little chance of failure as is possible.
