  1. Happy birthday fellow puppy...
  2. Nope, not really. Grado RA-1 driving the SR-507 sounded rather nice...
  3. Assuming somebody knows something just based on their education isn't a very good way to go. Take my EE Phd. cousin who had no idea how a dynamic speaker worked... That said, somebody with DIY experience should have no problem doing this.
  4. Easy enough to install a voltage divider off the B+ to generate the required secondary bias voltage.
  5. Go easy on the pots and you will be fine.
  6. There is no way to just modify the boards and slip them into a factory spec amp as it has to be adjusted for offset and balance. Get that wrong and the servo shuts off the output.
  7. The bias is run off the B+ so there is no separate winding for that. Also that transformer is for the US only given the single 117V primary. 230V requires two primaries or a single 230v winding.
  8. Yeah, don't fuck around with high voltage.
  9. The 507's are way too bright to these ears so that is something. While I did sell mine they aren't that far away...
  10. I for one can't ever turn off the analytical side of my brain so I'm always comparing against something, even now when I'm just winding down after work. This also means I can get rather frustrated with what ever headphone I'm currently using if it isn't up to snuff. With the HE90 I just couldn't bring myself to use them and with the HE Jade I couldn't even look at them. That said, things are often blown way out of proportions, just look at the whole cable mess or people using the pricetag as some benchmark. Claims that one needs a 5K$ source to hear what these transducers really can do is just utter, fucking nonsense. It did come from somebody who thinks Esoteric isn't the overpriced crap it really is so go figure...
  11. Happy Birthday little guy!!!
  12. Yeah, these graphs don't look too promising but knowing which version of the SR-007A they used is critical to understanding the graphs. SZ2 and SZ3 sound nothing like each other in the top end...
  13. Me no like the bassies so this is a natural filter...
  14. My cables are thin enough to wind around your finger (28AWG or thinner wire) so no issues here...
  15. So.... should I start preparing the cake now?
  16. This was just built for a laugh. A friend had some of these cables just gathering dust but needed more IC's. Enter team overkill... They will have to be supported though, they are not light.

    Stax plug

The old Amphenol sockets aren't exactly the correct size so they grab a bit too much. The Stax sockets are much nicer but not 80+$ nice...
  18. This one has been sitting around for months so finally some time to finish it. May I present the ultimate in insane cabling.... That's a Kimber KS-3033 turned into an IC. I also did a balanced one a few months back.
  19. I'll take some measurements later on.
  20. Looking good Douglas!!
  21. Now that would be a brilliant idea. I would also be open for some machined adapter plates so I can try my collection of Lambda drivers in those frames.
  22. The squealing issue could be due to the practically unprotected drivers. Koss did make reservations for a voltage divider in the amp to cut the bias supply so this makes it a more likely cause. I've been itching to get a ESP950 and fit the drivers in the HE90 frame I have here. Groupbuy?
  23. Happy Birthday!!
  24. Happy Birthday Antonio!!!!
  25. Mine was some industrial use stuff but that could work. As for removing it... you don't...
