  1. We really need to get started on those clones...
  2. The pins are a bit of a pain to solder to, especially if you like to have two sockets so the adapter boards make things easier. I drew up one a long time ago but never had any made which might be time to do now...
  3. Happy Birthday!!!
  4. Using the new drivers is certainly doable but you need a special rig to glue them together in and you also have to completely open them up to get the glue onto the parts. This exposes them to dust so one wrong move and the drivers are fubar. I've seen speculation about retrofitting the new driver cages into a Sigma chassis but somebody proposing that has never worked on a Sigma frame. There is no room inside it and the normal drivers barely fit. I used a 303 as a donor set because I had one sitting in Japan and aesthetically it's the best fit to a normal bias Sigma with the gray cable. Since John asked me about the sound, well it is a very good Sigma but with the 007 and 009 here it's in tough company. The midrange is glorious as ever but in other area it is rather colored though never in a bad way. I do think this is the best Sigma I've ever had though and it does look damn good after all the work I put into them (even painting part of the chassis). Here it is with some of its younger siblings...
  5. Holy hell those LCD-3 earpads are thick... How does the volume control work on those Woo beasts? One pot per chassis?
  6. If I were you I'd stop making assumptions since you are clearly just talking out of your ass.
  7. We do use some it in the bakery now for making confectioneries. Nothing survives in that much alcohol...
  8. I think Sennheiser are intentionally holding back based on the stuff I hear from the distributor here. For instance, where is the black HD800 that was supposed to be released by now? I spent an hour with one at CJ'10 and hated it. Now I'm not a fan of 6SN7/300b amps in general but this was just bad in every way. I couldn't believe how bad the Beyer T1 was until I moved onto the Woo6 and heard it was mostly the amp that made then sound that way. As for the monoblock beasts... yeah, I can't wait to see internal pics of that to see how they are going to get 3 different amps to function off the same tube sockets.
  9. I don't have any noise issues with PRP's in the KGSSHV. My issues are all with using 10M90's in the CCS...
  10. raises hand... I spent two weeks drinking nothing but Stroh 80% rum straight up with some tequila while on vacation in Greece. Burns like a mother... for the first sips and did lasting damage to my stomach but it was so worth it. ) Edit: What's up with the normal smile icon these days?
  11. Yeah, that's why the 350V spec scares me a bit. Should be fine though but it is certainly worth a try to lift up the PRP resistors and see if that changes anything...
  12. Monoblock headphone amps are nothing new and we can blame Tyll for that...
  13. ...but... but... they aren't red and purdy... My main issue with them is the max working voltage of 350V. Spend a little more and the Vishay CCF60 have a max working voltage of 500V with almost as many values available.
  14. ...goes off to place yet another Mouser order this month...
  15. Well it's posted on Ippinkan which are the sole retailer of Airbow so you can draw your own conclusions. The SR-SC1 is a lovely headphone but better than a 007A... ehhh nope...
  16. Highest Vbr to make sure the parts weren't marginal. I never tried it though, it just went on my gigantic to-do list. As Kevin pointed out to me, the much higher inductance of the Xicon's (compared to the PRP and Dale's) might help to kill the oscillation causing this noise issue.
  17. One can always find some other use for those PRP's.
  18. Will you redo the PSU for me to? Bloody thing hums after the whole transformer fiasco.... Looks like I'll be ordering some resistors. Not that I don't have a Mouser shipment already on the way...
  19. I haven't even looked at mine since July but one side on my unit is dead quiet while the other one has noise issues. Could be the resistors but Kevin suggested 3675's which were borderline that could be the cause. Are you using CCF or CMF's? I've started to use CCF's in most of my projects now given how cheap they are and that Krell used to use them...
  20. There is something "off" about the SZ3 units and the measurements just confirm it. I ripped mine apart last week, installed Mk1 drivers and the sound is completely different so Stax did this on purpose by messing with the drivers. Well there isn't a port on the Mk1 so that is a non issue but the devil is indeed in the details with the 007. Getting the arcs bent just right and also getting the earpads angled properly is all crucial to getting most out of them. Also, if the earpads have ever been removed it is vital to install them correctly. Same deal on replacing them once the foam has perished. As it stands now the 007Mk1 does things that the 009 just can't do, and vice versa for that matter, but the 007Mk1 wins out in my book by simply being more natural sounding.
  21. The effect of the port is well documented so that isn't really an issue. I also manipulate the arcs so that the port isn't a big deal even without it being sealed. The end result of Mk1 drivers in a Mk2 frame is just a Mk1 with more pronounced bass. That being the effect of the deeper earpads.
  22. You should introduce some steam into the oven at the start of baking for a much nicer crust. Just throwing a bit of water (1/2 cup would do it) on any of the metal parts of the oven will work. It's also a good idea to insert the bread at a higher temperature than you bake it at to offset the temperature difference of the cold loaf of bread vs. the hot oven. Other than that, good work.
  23. It's a bit shocking that they are still using that awful ESP9 headband...
  24. The bottom ones look like every C3675 I've ever use so they are real.
  25. Fake parts piss me off no end... Here is my first HV board ready for testing. I have some issues that need to be sorted but at least nothing blew up. I have the same problem as Kevin, I never follow the BOM...
