  1. The amp board is just about ready so I'll probably be ordering prototypes before Christmas.
  2. One likes his film caps...
  3. It's on the HV line so that would be the most obvious point of failure. As to why it's happening it can be any number of things.

  5. You can clean the DACT by taking it apart but it will never be truly noise free. Those plastic housings are just about useless...
  6. Stax have used the same Omron relay since the 90's with no issues I've heard of.
  7. Silver is cool...

Fuck!!!! I don't need more headphones... I don't need more headphones...
  9. The ECL86 stocks are dwindling but they still can be found. Sennheiser have dropped them as replacements for the HEV90 for the PCL86 which require rewiring of the amp boards. "Something" happened in 2005 which made them react like that... The HE90 doesn't really care for amps that are too honest. It is a highly flawed transducer engineered for a certain sound so I'd use the Aristaeus with it.
  10. If you take care with the grease application and isolate the screw then it should be just fine. This is how Stax did it on the SRM-T2...
  11. They fit perfectly in all Stax sockets so no need to worry.
  12. The sinks are not grounded so you can just use the shoulder bits for the screw and plenty of goop.
  13. That's what I've been using for years now. Runs a bit cooler.
  14. The went holes will help but it is also a good idea to lift the sinks off the board a bit.
  15. I just measured mine through the top panel and got 62-70°C. This is after about 30 minutes in chassis which is not the best in terms of cooling. Large drifts in offset and balance could be tied to how the output devices are attached to the heatsinks. What interface did you use?
  16. That one quite bad as well so I prefer the WPI plug. That shipping is messed up as it would easily fit in one of the flatrate boxes.
  17. This man speaks the truth!!!! It looks awesome....
  18. Well that and adjusting the amp boards for the output stage to draw more current.
  19. So? I respect Tyll's review but to me this is not a headphone worth the engineering and high pricetag.
  20. Try the UK service center too. They might be cheaper.
  21. The PSU already uses very good diodes so no need to worry about that. Better resistors might give some improvement but the real upgrade would be more current, much more current to the output stage. The circuit is very linear so it kept it's characteristics as the current was lowered to work with those onboard sinks but it doesn't mean it wasn't a compromise. Huge sinks, large PSU and this amp can mean business.
  22. I've seen the gigantic call for help and anybody to take him seriously. Everybody knows though that David Mahler is a brain dead fucktard and moar monies does not equal bettah soundz. Seriously, the guy makes Sixmoons seem level headed and accurate. For me the SR-009 only appears to be neutral as the upper mid/lower treble issues are clearly a coloration. That plus the bass issues means it's not the chameleon the Mk1 is (and to a certain extent the SR-Omega) which changes to meet what ever it is fed. It has a sound which is super smooth and a bit on the dark side but that doesn't mean it can't rock out or be painfully bright. In the end the 009 always sounds like a 009, feed them something dark and the brightness doesn't disappear nor does the shelved bass.
  23. Funny enough,I prefer the HD800 to the LCD2 and you know my stance on the 009...
  24. Sounds the same SE or balanced. Any difference will mostly be down to the source and how the output stage is configured/designed.
