Here you go, this is a shot of the left earpiece:
So the goal is the increase the height of the earpads in the back to get a greater angle. The greater the angle, the better the soundstage.
The serial on mine is 2561 so yours could be the fixed one. Stax would never tell us though...
The goal of the foam mod is to increase the height of the earpads behind the ears to get a better angle of the drivers above the ears. I made a wedge shaped piece of foam (think ( on it's side) and out the thickest part where the small recess behind and under the ears is.
They have always been like that. All those different SRM-1 Mk2 designs, different SRM- T1's, the SR-Omega being in constant evolution for those two years they made them, the SR-007Mk1 being a collection of at least 4 major design changes plus the whole 007Mk2 and then Mk2.5.
So... no trips to Iceland then? We still have an active one in the highlands that has pumped out more pollution in the last six months that all of Europe combined...
The pads are a bit different but they are not the change. I've already swapped pads and the difference is not there.
The info comes directly from Stax but without going into too much detail, they finally had the equipment to see what we were complaining about. Said things were then fixed...
I'm quickly donning my MOTMOTMOTMOT hat here. I working on updating the DIY part of my website and putting all the stuff that was in the old F/S threads here up there. Some stuff is still missing as I just forgot about it while wondering how did I accumulate all this stuff.

Some new stuff too as I finally think I have enough 2SC4686A's to go around. Also a small PCB to use 12VA PCB mount transformers for the low voltage supply of the KGST. This means the Antek 275V transformer can be used easily and this is far cheaper than using custom iron.
Also KGST boards with the mini KGSSHV psu. The new KGSSHV onboard design, the first amp boards to be labeled "final".
Not sure when it was implemented and Stax aren't saying, the whole mantra that they will continue to improve (or fuck up) the product holds true with them. Basically they changed the diaphragm setup so now they aren't as bright. For me they went from basically unusable to very good just because of that.
I could have put it on my website that I didn't recommend using the KGSSHV (I think that one was a HV) with the SR-009. I certainly said it enough... That was with the old ones though and it is no longer a factor with the fixed SR-009's.
I never got confirmation that they fixed the 007II/A too so I just bought a set to try out. If they fixed the diaphragm then they could finally be modified like the SZ2's.
I have the S3/5SE's here and they are lovely speakers. I read at some point that they are inspired by their BBC namesakes but the cabinets turned 90° and the baffle isn't screwed in place. Also biwire from the age when that was all the rage.
Nope, no carbon files have been tested. You have been warned as that one was a rush job.
Current is fixed so the voltage is the variable. I won't be going over 400V with this one, same as the Megatron.
I bought two dozen as they won't sell you just a few. Took a few weeks as this is custom extruded . Price was good but the shipping was crazy expensive. Sending aluminum UPS will do that...
I had Fischer make some 350*150mm sinks for me recently. I also have some Conrad from a group buy on DIYA years back. I'll have to find them and measure the exact dimensions.
