  1. If I wanted to configure this DAC for USB input, would I need to buy a USB receiver module as well? Or would this be a step backwards?
  2. Unfortunately the total build price is too steep for me, so I'll have to remove my name from the list. Apologies & good luck!

Where the hell is his shark repellent spray?
  4. Wish I could offer help more. One thing that is quite cool with my balanced amp is the ability for it to take a single-ended input and use transformers to turn it into balanced output. The transformers used are Sowters which are a UK company. If I get an indication of how feasible this is and how many people are interested, I could contact them and provide pricing and options. Added bonus is the pound is currently very low compared to the dollar.... Cheers!
  5. A newb / clueless question: Is it possible to obtain a single-ended socket from a balanced configuration? If so, then please put me down for: Firm - 4 - 4 If not, then add an extra 2 boards. Many thanks!!
  6. Let me know how that goes )
  7. My first pair of R10 looked a bit like that. The foam was really horrible and I'm very glad I managed to get some replacement foam before it all ran out. Time & humidity will affect the foam and eventually DIY replacements will have to be used. The inner yellow foam surrounding the driver (that turns red after time) is very soft and fairly dense. I've not seen other foam like it but it's almost like memory foam but lighter. Very small holes and squeezy. The outer foam ring that sits between the wooden cups and the metal headband assembly (behind where the screws attach) are grey and slightly more resistant to deterioration but they do also go crumbly and shrink. Ridiculous that such an expensive headphone is made with such perishable parts, but we are talking many, many years for this to happen My R10's currently live in my air-conditioned office where it's a constant 20-22C and minimal humidity.

Visual representation of the interweb ) Saw it first at the Millenium Dome,
  9. Had it since the weekend. Taking cough syrup every 3-4 hours as well as paracetamol for aching joints. Hope it clears up before I go on holiday on Friday...
  10. Depends how bad you want it. I'd say around 4.3k including the headband and cable, give or take a couple hundred dollars.

    knife-case

It's illegal to carry penknives that lock or has a blade greater than 3 inches in length in the UK so Spyderco made a 3 inch non-locker just for us ). Lame I know. My dream knife would be one of these: Only 195 euros!
  12. Really pretty. Congrats all around )

  16. As stated, Merlot is usually used as a blending wine. I'm surprised to hear it so praised as a single varietal. For single grape varieties, Pinot noir (Burgundy in France) is very well regarded. I try to buy a mixed case from a specialist dealer every year and it's a great change from the standard supermarket plonk. In Italy, Barolo (made from the Nebbiolo grape) is also very well regarded (and pricey!). I haven't had much experience of it as yet, though I did have quite a few glasses of it at my brother's wedding and it was superb.

  22. Yes it is, which is why I'm glad there are interior shots of the Little Dot. If you owned a Doge 6210 you'd understand. The 'wire' was insulated in (flaking) paper. The amp had a severe channel imbalance. No sound would come out from some of the values on the headphone impedence switch. It was soldered by a hamfisted monkey (which is being harsh to the primate) - I'm surprised the thing didn't just go up in smoke. I let someone have it for 1/10 the price because I was going to throw it away otherwise, and felt bad charging for any more. After ample warning about how bad it was. No audio product I've ever owned from anywhere else approaches this level of bad.
  23. Superb vid ) Wonder if vacuum tubes will still be around in a hundred years time.
  24. Had it about 3 weeks now - bought it new on Ebay from MHDT labs.
