I'm not sure. Are you talking about Robert Spano?
-
Ha ha ha....That freaking Rick! he sent me emails twice about coming to Ga. and kicking my ass. Actually, he threatened me during the threads also.

Started off with Schumann symphony No. 2 1-4 The Atlanta symphony is not that great. I have been there on several ocasions. But tonight they really played well. I had not heard of the guest conductor until tonight. Kwame Ryan

Not sure if its hers or not. Just says she has been using it on this years tour. I saw in the other post you had recently got a copy of this concerto.
-
My most recent purchase was two tickets to the symphony this afternoon. milkpowder, We saw Leila Josefowicz play one of your recent purchases. Beethovens violin concerto.

Just got back from seeing Leila Josefowicz solo with the Atlanta Symphony. Second time I've seen her. She is really woth the ticket if you get a chance. The performed Beethovens violin concerto in D major. God sher can make that violin sing and cry. She was using a Del Gesu violin that was made in 1724.( I am guessing KA_CHING in $$ major) As a bonus she is very easy on the eyes too.

I guess the HD650s would be first......since its the only pr. I keep anymore. I hang them next to my Thiels.

Take a look at my new Blue Circle SBH Headphone and preamp
tom_hankins replied to Frihed89's topic in Headphone Amplification
Nice system. I heard some of the larger Quicksilver monoblocks and theyb were very nice. -
I wonder what there new seperates (pre and amp) will be like. just saw an add in one of the new mags.
-
Thanks for the info. I have never seen that mag before. i went ahead and ordered a six issue subscription to check it out. 6moons.com also did a review and liked the preamp alot. They have reviewed the new balanced (LS36) from Modwright also.
-
I'm with you on the dislike of the Grados. Owned the HP-2, 225, 325, RS-1 (twice, SE and balanced) PS-1 was here (on loan) for 2-3 months balanced. I enjoyed several phones I had over that time period more than the Grados. The only one I liked was the HP-2. But the fact that it was the most god awful, painful, thing in the headphone world if I had my glasses on....it had to go. Sonicly it was very nice paired with the two box Gilmore V-1 amp and the Toaster style SDS. Probably should have got contacts and kept them.
-
The Modwright phonostage is also supposed to very nice. Wish it had balanced outputs on it.

I used the preamp section in my CapitoleMKII, and ran my system through my Prima SE DAC. Although the preamp section was good (very good with the DAC) I used the Aesthetix Calypso, BAT VK-31SE, and the Ayre K-1XE before I sold the AA and all were a big step up over the AA. Better dynamics, bigger sound stage, more detail with the Ayre and A.C, about the same with the BAT but still a bigger more robust sound. YMMV, but wortha try. Buy used and resell if your not happy. I also tried the Audio research LS25 MKII and stayed with the AA instead.
-
Not a problem...I heard the RSA portable amp Jude uses also doubles as a cologne holder..... for the man on the go.
-
No shit.
-
I have to admit. they are as close to perfection in a headphone as I have heard. they are magic with the matching HEV90 amp and I think slightly better with the ES-1. IMO better than anything out there....stat or dynamic.

Congrats!! Was checking out your sig and your your system looks wonderful! Have fun and post some pics of it all together when the sub gets there.

Hope it works out for you. Have you got any news wether its yours or not yet?

DAC (or CDP with digital input) with preamp function
tom_hankins replied to Salt Peanuts's topic in Home Source Components
I had one ordered but really like the Sim Audio. I had Mikhail upgrade to the V-caps and Blackgates and some custom work on the MaestroXLR with the phonostage money. -
DAC (or CDP with digital input) with preamp function
tom_hankins replied to Salt Peanuts's topic in Home Source Components
I have been using the Ayre K-1XE preamp and have been comparing the Ayre P-5XE and Sim Audio LP5.3 phonostages . I liked the Sim better than the Ayre and sold the Ayre. I will add the upgraded power supply to the Sim when it comes out. This is a great phonostage in my system and I was happy to find one cheaper than the Ayre and one that I also felt was quieter and sonics are better. I got a chance to use the SDS-XLR as a preamp in my system and liked it better than the Ayre K-1Xe so I sold it and have been using a Musical Fidelity until the SP gets here. Its as decked out Maestro XLR with Mikhails new tubed power supply and I am very excited to get this in the system. The system will be as follows when the preamp arrives. ;D VPI SuperScoutmaster w/signature arm Dynavector XX-2 MKII cartridge VPI SDS Sim Audio LP5.3 phonostage Singlepower Maestro-XLR preamp Krell FPB 650M monoblocks Thiel CS7.2 speakers NAD M5 SACD player Audioquest Sky cables everywhere(just got four pr. of these and they are very, very, very, good cables in my system) Audioquest Mont Blanc speaker cables(soon to be Volcanos) Power cords are LAT International AC-2 Audio Magic power purifiers for the digital and the phonstage Billy Bags rack I just got through finishing treating the room and all outlets are dedicated 20 and 30 amp lines in a dedicated room (15X20). Two years of work and changes to get here and this is it for a long time. I am very happy with what I have put together. Mikhail says the Maestro with the new PS is a better preamp than the SDS-XLR. I will post pics and thoughts when everything is together and has a few hours on it. -
If you are reffering to my post i said the Lambdas had a cleaner midrange in comparison to the HE60. They did. We were not trying make them anything at all. As to how I like my music...dont assume to know anything about my tastes. You have no clue.
-
From my understanding that is a prototype and the finished product will look a little better. I guess the guys at SR cables are very happy with it. Cant wait for preamp to get here. Mikhail sounds very excited about the power supply with those tubes.
-
So my thoughts about the Lambda Pros wont be misunderstood. they did sound very good. They were not on the level of the HE90 or R10.(IMO Nothing is) They were as much better than the HE60, as the HE90 and R10 were better than them. They are the only Stax I have heard that I came away liking. Purks systems are awesome. The R10/SDS was sounding the best at the beginng of the night and as good as I have ever heard the R10 sound. After switching the input tubes in the ES-1 to TungSol Roundplates (VT231-6sn7) all the Elec. got better. At that point the HE90/ES-1 was my favorite of the evening.
-
The Lambda had a better, cleaner, and more realistic midrange than the HE60. The treble was more detailed. The bass was the most noticable of all though. The bass was lacking and loose with the HE60 compared to the Lambda. The one area that I liked better about the HE60 was its had a smoother presentation compared to the Lambda. Of all the phones we listened to the Lambda were the most aggressive. I really like the HE60s and have owned them in the past. But they (IMO with system I heard) are not close to the HE90 or the Lambda or the R10/SDS system we used. The Lambdas were sounding good last night and were running with fast company. HE90/HEV90 R10/SDS He60/ES-1 HE90/ES-1
