  4. Anyone had a chance to try or hear the newer Grado "The Statement 1" After talking to Todd, (TTVJ) and the people at VPI, and reading this review it looks like Grado really nailed it on this one. grado statement
  5. The beauty of the raccoon as a pet is that if they dont work out, they also make wonderful hats. Or in this case (50lb) coats.
  6. They are more than I care to spend at $10K a pr. Probably have to think more about the Dared or a pr. of the Cayin amps used. My local dealer has a brand new looking pr. of these for 3750.00 http://affordableaudio.biz/index.php?cPath=1_17_4&main_page=product_info&products_id=166 Might see if I can bring these home next.
  7. Thanks, I'll let you know how these sound later today. These are the amps I heard that I thought were special. I heard both the 300b and 845 amps http://www.thoeress.com/en/845-mono-amplifier/
  8. They are supposed to be able to use either 211/845 tubes. I'll check out the dared too, thanks. I'm not hoping for to much from the VAL because the iron is chinese. I fell in love with the Thoress 845 amps in FL. Th These are the same power, so if they work OK I know that the Thoress will be an option, if not will have to look elsewhere.
  9. Brought home a pr. of these amps to try with the Harbeths to see how 25wpc 845 would do with them. They use 1 pr. of 6sn7 and a single 211/845 power tube each. (monoblocks) they are Chinese made. Anyone have any info on them? I have always been a big fan of 845 based amps, and after Axpona i have had the itch to try one. If these work out I might try something a little nicer and more powerful like the Cary 211 or Cayin 9088 in my system.
  10. Have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
  11. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
  12. I've been using the VPI 17F cleaner for a week now and it is SOTA, cleans as good as a hard scrubbing with the 16.5 and is much faster, quieter, and easier to use. Still waiting for VPI to get my XLR junction box to my dealer.
  13. Anyone know how much gain is the EC phono going to offer? Also loading options and balanced inputs/outputs? Looked it up. Wish it was a little more flexible with settings.
  14. I hope they (Bruins) are done. Gives the Thrashers an outside chance at the playoffs.
  15. HAPPY BIRTHDAY FITZ!!!!! Have a great one.
  16. Just got back from another 1 1/2 hours with the 1.7s. First thing that hit me (again) is how they play so big and so coherent. Not just maggie big soundstage, but just big sound. (if that makes sense) Bass is better than I would have thought. This time they were in a home theater with blue ray and all NAD multi channel amp and processer. Next week my friend is going to hook them up with a used ARC Ref.3, and Ref 110 amp. cant wait to hear them then. Right now i just keep thinking that at the $2K price, I should pick up a pr. and figure out what i will do with them after i get home. They need room. I thought they sound the best when moved 4-5 feet from wall behind and 3-4 feet from side walls. But they were really good about two feet from side wall and toed in too.
  17. Have you tried the glass platter? A friend said it made a nice change with his Rega. Picked up the VPI 17F wet cleaner today. Its bigger than I thought it would be. Now i need a new table to put it on.
  18. Went to listen to the 1.7s on the way home from work yesterday. Ended up listening to them for around an hour or so. They were in a vinyl/digital system that total sells for under $6K. They are absolutly the best speaker of any kind that I have heard anywhere near there price. Even in a modest system they were great. Rega P3-24 Rega MM phono Rega Apollo NAD 375BEE 1.7s I'm going back this afternoon and spend some more time with this system some more.
  19. I thought the Thoress/Horning room was the best overall in a weak group. I heard it with both the 300b amps and the 845 amps and the 845s were alot more to my liking. The phono preamp was TW Acoustic. Cartridge was Dynavector XV-1t. The VAC room was pretty good too. The Thiel/Boulder 5.1 channel room was playing some killer recordings, and the best surround sound I've heard & seen. HOTEL WAS A DUMP.
  20. You can get beer anywhere.
  21. On my way! Weekend of music, gear fantasy, & seafood! What could be better?
  22. Back and forth between music and season two of Dexter.
  23. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATE!!
  24. This is interesting. Record grooves under an electron microscope
  25. Dont forget your cleaner. ;-)
